I would bin the army folder, as I am sure you will in the end anyhow. The bulldog rabbiter is good, or I have a water board 'teaspoon' which is my favourite, light, strong and not too big.
  2. It's just a raggedy old cross breed, made from dogs before they were a breed as such. Been around as long as men have hunted game I should think. If you look in 'The Hunting book' by Gaston Phoebus which was written in the 14th and 15th century in France, running dogs are very typey and used to hunt alongside other hounds for various quarry. It's a good book if your a dog book nerd like me.
  3. Fantastic part of the world, visited that area a few times sadly always without a dog by my side
  4. True, think the same can be said for many breeds apart from a few exceptions. It's what happens when you are breeding for looks over function or when a breeds loses it primary function.
  5. I agree with Ideation this last year I have seen more genuine bred collie x litters than I have seen for a few years, bred from genuine dogs by genuine lads. I honestly regret not having one, but the time was just not right for me. However I have seen several very good Hancock bred dogs over the years, and many dogs with his blood lines in which I would of gladly liked to own at the drop of a hat. Personally I would not purchase, encourage or endorse 'dog farming' on principle, even for supposedly a good dog. If you want a collie cross dog keep your ears and eyes open, be patient and don'
  6. Looking good socks she's really taking to the game, you must be well happy with her progress I like the look of the other mutt, looks well bred
  7. Oil stones are excellent. I also find the Lansky crock sticks are great and for my not so important blades a Blade tech then a quick go on the lanskys is a good combo
  8. There is no need to use a shock collar unless in extreme situations, and even then you have to know HOW to best use it. There are so many other positive training options than this available to the thinking lurcherman. I would get the dog sharpened up on the recall and retrieve training with fur and then try the lamping and as others have said getting a catch. If the dog hunts up, turn tail with the dog in the field and head for the car and go home, don't keep letting him do it. He will work it out I am sure. And as temping as it might be, don't illuminate another rabbit once he has missed
  9. You gotta laugh at what a obviously incompetent bunch of coppers they are. Rinse this one right out they are totally in the wrong!
  10. Too bloody many, and too much shite, but their worth it. 5 Jills 1 Jaffa and 3 entire Hobs which are boarding for a few weeks...

    Rabbit Carcass

There's not much fat on a rabbit so I would add some fat or fatty mince, some veg and some brown rice or pasta. Maybe feed the rabbit one day and the fatty mince, veg and pasta the next. I feed a variety of meat, offal, tripe etc mixed with pasta, a variety of veg and tinned tomatoes. Then on top of this they get a whole skinned and gutted rabbit or a few chicken wings or lamb ribs etc. That looks better than the grub I eat, can i come round for supper?
  12. Seems a good year weather wise for the shrooms and Fungi. I have found a few Giant Puffballs and Parasols (Common and Slender) Anyone had any good finds?
  13. It's of little benefit to lurcher folk. But a step in the right direction, but the cynic in me suspects this will be the government's offering of a solution rather than going for a full repeal of this ridiculous law..
  14. I don't have a clue, 'Leave it you fecker'
  15. Really sorry to hear this mate! Gutted for you. He was no age either. RIP Scooby.

  17. Milk, can stir up a few differing replies from people as far as being lactose intolerant etc. Personally I would stick with the Goats Milk as its generally tolerated (smaller fat Globules) better that cows milk by dogs and its a good source of calcium, fat, and protein. Just don't over do it. Good luck Sirius
  18. 4 and 5 are outstanding wildlife shots. They are all top class
  19. Those big end caps can make the task of laying a net allot less painful when the grounds hard compared to the thin ones Although thin ones are a touch lighter and good enough when the going is 'soft'.
  20. Good post BORDERSCOT, it can go horribly wrong thats for sure . It's a balance, as getting a pup in the field early is how I like to do it, but at that early sensitive stage general training and commands are still being worked on also. So good short sessions seem to have worked well for me on the last couple of dogs. I have always felt that although its great to start to teach a 'leave' with food from a young age as basic training, a rabbit or live quarry always stir up a little more 'want' in a dog and to what extent is where the challenge lies. So those early experiences with live quar
