  1. Is this the same as our 'Harbourer' when stag hunting the UK? to find a suitable Stag to hunt on the day?
  2. Poitevin, are a stunning hound Cheers for posting Blaise
  3. They are good enough, but not as good as they could be, but DEBEN have the monopoly. 2ft is rarly 2ft on my box more like 1ft, better that way than the other way round.
  4. I hate a ferret that stays longer than 20 mins or so. Most warrens I work go 10+feet. I often find it takes a season or so before ferrets really go deep.
  5. Welcome, its a great county apart from the grockels
  6. So is this the accused fella? http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/user/2961-leec/
  7. Bloody good news, lets make sure that everyone keeps the outcome of the case VERY VERY public. I think people should know it wasn't just the one incident, ferrets had been getting lifted all over that part of the south last year.
  8. I think a few people get mixed up between Conformation (the way a animal is built) and Beauty (the way it looks) No doubt a well built animal looks good but its not about that is it?? I keep reading " I don't care how it looks as long as it catches" kind of comment which I agree with BUT if a dog is not built right especially in shoulders, feet etc , it will come unstuck eventually. A example is that a dog with say 'weak shoulders' maybe be great for a few years of work catch fecking loads of quarry as it has youth on its side, but eventually that dog will suffer as it gets older, much soon
  9. Never nice being laid up waiting to get better, hears to a quick recovery for you
  10. Great snaps Torchey I like the type of dogs you have there. Cant beat letting the dogs work through crops like that, great sport and gives the dogs a work out.
  11. Seen and owned dogs which were not great conformation wise but had not probs filling the freezer. Bad shoulders, too narrow, crab on the move, toeing out ( which is never as bad as toeing in) had all of those. But one things for sure good conformation and balance will help longevity. But some points of good conformation are way more important than others. The whole subject is about balance and no gross exaggeration.
  12. I maybe wrong, but I was under impression you can treat your own dog to a point. But when you treat someone else's it's real trouble.

Crockets and Jones, Loake, Cheaney etc all good makes You cant beat decent hand made shoes, cost a bit, but last way longer than any mass made shoes. It cost me over £200 for my last pair of RM Williams boots but worth it.
  18. Also I personally don't lamp another rabbit until the dog back at my side ready to be told to go again or be slipped. Otherwise it tends to encourage hunting up. Seen dogs kill 2's of one slip, and dogs running around with a rabbit in there mouths trying to catch another lol Good hunting Sirius
  19. Not something I would encourage. Catch/miss and straight back every time. My idea of a good lamp dog is a soft mouthed one, so all that happens is they drop the live one and it heads for home while they head after number two. The fact Is you will always get rabbits sitting together and some you can run, it's the way it is. Just once it's caught get the lamp off wait for the dog to bring in rabbit and hope the others still squat down.
  20. Happy new year, good you found enough for the dogs to run. I hope 2014 is a good one and the dogs stay injury free.
  21. The Merle is just a real mix of breeds going back eons but has some deerhound greyhound saluki with a good splodge of collie grey.Brindle is deerhound greyhound collie saluki with a touch of whippet.
  22. Yeah mate keeping him ticking over, 8 this year he's slowing a bit. Just practicing my eating and drinking skills lately lol not the camera, turned out alright in the end though.!
