  1. Sorry to read this, it is a real shame with such a young dog. Dogs break your heart, ain't that the truth. RIP Ern
  2. Personally I think it's all bollocks really. As has been touched on who really has the time to give the dog the work, and opportunities, and training to be very good at everything!! And even then it's down to luck. You get a dog which catches a fair bit but runs its game for miles and holds the arse end, it's a failure as a allrounder. One that can't work steady off a slip at night or on a warren to me is a failure as a allrounder. The list is endless. As long as it's good at the bread and butter jobs you do a lot you should be happy. Feck trying for the impossible, no dog or human is perfect
  3. that's grate news mate go ahead and take up the offer you will regret it if ya don't Am i right in thinking, uve got poachers pocket bred dog gaffer? Ive had a liitle think about having this dog, but i think it would be the wrong decision at the moment, ive always bin a strong believer in having ur dogs from pups. 5 months is still a pup mate, if the lad has brought the pup up well it could end up no different to one you had at 8 weeks. I got my old dog at 6 months and the lad had done a good job with him. I agree, my last two were about 4 months. It just depends on how much or little time h
  4. Sorry to here that, terrible, a real bad blow especially with such a young dog. RIP
  5. Good thread, It's a good opportunity to worship and big up dogs you haven't seen. I want a tumbler, Hancock, Merlin eve, golly bred, malamute cos I heard its good on the hunting life lol pmsl
  6. Oh for the ground buries of the north lol..... You can't miss what you've never had, the hedges have been kind this year, you end up scratched to f**k and stinging for a week, but it's worth it.... Hope you've had a good season mate, I'll have a couple if little trips with the kids now, an hour here and there, for the next couple of weeks, then out with the rods... There's a big bass with my name on it lol I know the score with hedges we have plenty lol I had a trip down to south Devon on a place last month, very productive but by feck a 3ft dig in the rain in a blackthorn hedge test
  7. Good result those Devon hedges ain't easy work lol glad you have had a good season! Good hunting!
  8. I have fed lambs hearts, no problem, its a good muscle meat for dogs and goes well with Tripe. I prefer to feed beef tripe over sheep paunch, but I cant say i have heard of anyone having a problem with them.
  9. Same as everyone else clean water with some salt in it, and even better let the dog lick it.
  10. I am sure there is another shower of excrement, waiting in the wings ready to take on the job!
  11. Dog, boot, screech or scruff are my favs at the mo.
  12. Can you honestly not understand? TC  @Tiercel, not hard to grasp is it really
  13. If its relatively mild, a supplement such as Glucosmine and Chondroitin is ideal look for HCL Chondroitin its better absorbed and a product which is for veterinary use, so you get the dosage correct. The dosage in most cases is given as a loading (higher) dose initially and then reduced to a lower maintenance. Another option maybe Cod Liver Oil. And yes keep the dogs fitness up and weight sensible along with a good diet. Good Luck Sirius
  14. Soft? The problem I have noticed with them is that they can be too driven and hard on quarry, which is not a trait I like particularly.Great to watch even though they make your toes curl, but I think it's unfair to compare them to a Lurcher as they are what they are, good fun sporting dogs. Ps) I don't own one but have lamped a couple which are owned by my family.
  15. Yes I do batches up in ice cube trays of pulverised raw veg done it for years! Also add other veg ad hock when it's available along with other bits and pieces.
  16. A good Lurcher x Lurcher is usually favourite in my book.
  17. Seen a few pics of wall eyed whippets before. Not Merle's just wall eyed or ticked. Can It see out of that blue eye astanley? Lol
  18. We use them a fair bit for the hedges and round gorse patchs, we find them really useful and a ideal back up to stop bolters or net slippers. I don't ferret in a 'gang' or 'group' not my thing being a bit anti-social, so its about speed we find the longnets/stopnets and a splattering of pursenets a good speed efficient method for most places. The worse bit with the fixed pole longnets is lugging them about, that's why I now prefer to take a couple of Traditional light weight nets when we have a fair walk
  19. I stoatly believe you cant cross a stoat and a ferret without producing a mule (not able to reproduce), I could weasely be wrong though
  20. I filmed a brace who were tied two weeks ago? So it will be a while before there on the ground.
  21. Your a 'vapour addict now' but a lot less risk that tobacco apparently, but they don't really know the long term effects. I have been given 4 months or so, but bought a vaporitz tank for when at the pub etc, big mistake as I am back addicted to nicotine. Gonna try and bin it soon.
  22. I need a new charger for a lithium battery if anyone has one? My puppy just chewed my one up? Regards Sirius
  23. Mate of mine has one and a very very handy ferreting dog it is to. Nice robust hound for the rabbit game Fireman, really nice I worked on a few farms out in Australia 18 or so years ago, and there sure is some variation in these ACD. Every bloody ute has one tied in the back
