For Sale Franchi 12 gauge Hunter Semi-Auto Shotgun (R/H) Nikko Stirling Gold Crown 4 x 40 Wide Angle Scope I'm clearing some room in my gun safe and also upgrading a scope so I though I'd see if anybody was interested in the above. The Franchi is one of two I own and is in very good condiction and the scope has come off my .22Lr and has been replaced with an upgrade, it is also in very good condiction. I'm looking for £160-00 for the Franchi and I'm open to offers for the scope. Please contact me by private message if you have an interest and we'll go from there.

The Chinese eat fox if that is of any help but I'd not bother taking them to your local carry out. I used to remove the tail from the bone like a glove while it was still warm and cure it later; the rest of the carcase was binned.

Any liquid can cause wood to swell and crack, just don't use to much; the damp cloth method works well.

Always use a brush that is made of a softer material than what you're cleaning or you'll remove gun metal. After any gun cleaning I always wipe down with WD40; with WD40 being fish oil based it's a great water repellent.

I've used .22 Lr Ruger's semi auto and bolt action for just about thirty years now; I'm on gun number four, polycarbonate stock, stainless steel short barrel for use with a mod from a Land Rover, 10 round box clip or a 30 round banana clip for that added fun.

My 22 rim fire application
David B Allen replied to RogerTheCat's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
If you're looking at a .22 Center Fire for fox and a great fun rifle check out .22-250 If you Google or check on Youtube you see what I mean. -
I guess the first question you must ask yourself is . . . What will you use a .308 for ? and that will guide you to your choice. Then of course there is your budget. I have two .308's but both for different uses; one for Highland Red Deer and normal everyday shooting and the other for long range target shooting out to 1000 meters; the main difference between mine is the value because of what they are, £500-00 for one and £5000-00 for the other. If I was to pick a good value for money .308 to do many jobs I'd go for a Remington 700

I've rebrowned an old side by side just to see if I could do it; "Browning" is a chemical reaction between the browning fluid and the heated gun metal and doing it at home in Mums oven and a blow lamp is not the best way but it worked, sort of. The only way to get rid of the marks is to "Brown" again; it's not like doing stone chips on your car. With my limited understanding of Damascus barrels I didn't think they are ment to be "Browned" but left to see the workmanship.

Try checking out "Gun Trader" on line www.guntrader.co.uk and you'll get a good idea of market value and I'm sure you can also get some discount off their list price. -
Accuracy International AW .308
David B Allen replied to David B Allen's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
The 308 is fine but when you start to extend the range to 1000 yards plus the 308 makes the transition from supersonic to subsonic not the best situation for ultimate accuracy the bigger guns have the edge at distance as they stay supersonic longer and have better ballistics from heavier bullets with better ballistic coefficients. Note I am not suggesting you would shoot game at these ranges. Fair comment Dan, I have never shot at these sort of distances that you are reffering to, but I can see the point your making, and it's a valid one. This must be one of the first threads I h -
I think most shooters will use a centre fire for fox so if you looking to have one rifle for both fox and rabbit my choice is a .22-250, there is also the .222. I use a Remington 700 custom with .22-250 55g Winchester Super X just under 4000 FPS and just about flat out to 300 meters. The rounds come in at approx £0.75 each so not a cheap way to control rabbit.

I use a Remington 700 Custom in .22-250 I use a muzzle break but no moderator. The Remington 700 is a great shooting platform and can be up graded with an Accuracy International stock if required. -
Accuracy International AW .308

Thank you for you input . . . . I think an Accuracy International platform is going to be my choice for a replacement to my current rifle, I just have to decide if I stay with .308 or move to .338 The advantage of staying with .308 is it's a straight swop on my FAC and I only have to raid my pocket money. Thanks everyone for all the input. -

I was also looking at the AI AE MK11 . . . there are just a few more option available on the AW and if I go .338 it'll have to be the AW platform . . . I'd like to think I treat my rifles with respect. I take it you're very happy with your AI AE . . . . Thank you for your input -

I do alot of long range targets / steel plates out to 1000 Meters; I know if it'll do that it'll be OK for my Highland red deer stalking. Many pro shooters can't look past the shooting platform I'm looking to hear from normal shooters before I spend upwards of £5000-00 on a total platform. For that sort of price of £5,000 i would have one built Dave, i would be contacting Lee at http://www.border-ba...mint_rifles.htm I have a Accuracy International stock on my custom built .243 which i shoot off the roof of my disco and have shot from the shoulder which is OK but a bit to heavy so -

You've got me thinking now . . . . the difference between 7.62 & .308 in my view isn't worth shouting about but the step up to .338 I agree has it's advantages and the cost isn't much different. I'll hazard a guess you're using a 27" fluted barrel, tactical muzzle break, Picatinny top rail and the adjustable cheek & butt. -

Thanks for you very professional point of view. we didn't have the AI AW .338 during my time. I wouldn't think of putting anything else but a Schmidt & Bender on a Accuracy International platform. Thanks again -
Accuracy International AW .308 I've read online reviews from shooting pros and viewed many YouTube video's but I want to throw it out there and I'd like to hear from anybody who has one or has had the chance to use one. Where did you get it from, new or second hand and did you get any discount off list price. What total package do you use or used. Dealer service. How happy are you with the shooting platform. I know there are loads of Remington 700 .308 with Accuracy International upgrade stock Etc. but it not the same thing by a long shot. Thanks for you help

advise on what to buy
David B Allen replied to lee8375dogs's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
The .17Hmr has been around for the genral public since 2002 many shooter use them but the are no way as near as popular as .22 Lr Rimfire for a number or reasons The rifle cost more in the first place. The rounds are very expensive compared to .22 Lr Rimfire, just about three time the cost and that makes a big difference when you start using upwards of a 1000 rounds a week. Unless I'm very wrong there isn't a Subsonic .17Hmr round so you have the noise factor even with a sound mod. As to the remake of shooting fox with a .17Hmr or .22 Lr Rimfire . . . not a very good idea, unless you're -
As it looks like you decided a bipod is the way to go and I do agree they're very handy on a .22 Lr don't pay the £100-00 plus for a new Harris Bipod on onto Ebay and pick up a copy for about £27-00 works just as well.

Ask yourself two questions . . . . What distance am I going to do most of my shooting at and what is the max range of my shooting ground. Eg. I zero my .22-250 at 200 meters as I know a .22-250 is just about flat out to 300 meters, my .308 I zero at 300 meters because I shot red deer around the 300 meter make, give or take.
