  1. Hello all, I used to know a lady that trialled LH Weims, and just wondered if anyone worked them at all? When I was trialling they were very few and far between, but that was many moons ago, maybe there are more about then? Just me boing nosey Ali xx
  2. I was told by an elderly chap years ago, that it was because the older breeds take longer to mature, and that was echoed by some of the people that I have spoken to that have breeds like Curlys, Goldens, and even Flatcoats. I suppose that some people don't have the time/money/knowledge to take on a puppy that might still be immature at 2-3 years old, they want a dog that they can bring on quickly. Its a sad situation, maybe a sign of the times very sad, but there are still pockets of people about that use the older breeds if you look for them. Ali
  3. Most of the Americans i've spoken to either use the Boykin or the American Water Spaniel, i've never heard of an American Water gun dog. I thought poodles originally came from Germany (puddel hund) and then France, where they standardised the type and became very popular as water retrievers. Anyway, i say go for it, theres no reason why your Cockerpoo couldn't make a smart, useful little worker. Best of luck. Alison
  4. They are a lovely breed that i'm sure will get more and more popular, very quiet and soft in the house, but great in the field as well. I am not too fond of Weims either, but i think these are a lot more like a toned-down GWP, they have the working abilty, but just slightly smaller and slightly less nutty!. I believe they mature a wee bit faster as well. All the owners i have met are totally smitten with them. If i was looking for a HPR, this is the breed i would have. Ali
  5. Must be tough for his owners - good for them that they are putting his needs first though and have contacted you, rather than just getting rid. Cracking dog for the right person though, best of luck with the rehoming, i'm dead jealous. Ali
  6. I wish i was in the market for a new dog - i'd have your hand off for one! For the undecided, they are cracking dogs, great hunters outside, but with a good 'off' switch for in the house. I wish you all the best for your pups - they look super Ali
  7. I'm guessing your missus means a Cavalier King Charles rather than a King Charles Spaniel (KC - difficult to get hold of!). If you are not able to put her off getting one, i would make sure you get one from a good breeder, who health test their dogs. Yes you will pay a bit more, but CKC's can have a lot of health problems, and nasty ones at that . Better to pay a wee bit more than loads more at the vets later on. Best of luck - you never know, it could be a working monster when you get it! (although possibly not) Ali
  8. Don't think you'd get mismarks, but you may well get pups with lighter skin pigment. You may find that any Choc pups have pinkier noses and eye rims, rather than dark ones. Best of luck with whatever you choose, we shall of course want updates! Ali
  9. Sorry for your sad news - she looks a grand bitch, best of luck with rehoming her. Ali
  10. Saxon, Just wanted to say so sorry about your lovely bitch. I know you must feel like crap at the moment, but you went above and beyond for her and tried everything you could. I know its no comfort, but she was a grand looking bitch and you should be very proud of her, she was exactly what a Rottie should be. Chin up mate. Ali
  11. What an interesting mix - are they all smooth coated? I should think they'll make good little dogs, pretty single minded, but smart! Best of luck with them, i wish i was in the market for a new dog! Ali
  12. I'm all for giving a dog with 'issues' a 2nd chance, but i suppose it depends on whether you could guarantee that the dog was NEVER around kids again. Its a lot to ask if you don't know the person you are letting the dog go to, i personally wouldn't want the responsibility. Good luck with whatever you decide to do. Alison
  13. I was always led to believe that English Bull Terriers are (on the whole) fantastic with people, it is other dogs that they can sometimes be gobby with. Sorry, but if the dog has had a go at a kid, then in my book its a no brainer - take it to the vets to be PTS, better that than hearing about it biting a child later on, or having to live in a cage for the rest of its life. Alison
  14. What a shame - he looks a cracking pup, i'm sure you wont have a problem finding him a home. Thats a real generous price as well. Best of luck mate Alison
  15. Any bitch with Maesydderwen, Wernffryd or (my personal favourite!) Nancarrow in her lines should be a good'un. Good luck in your search Ali
  16. If you wanted to go for something a bit different, Chesapeake Bay Ret's are another one to look at. BIG dogs, great swimmers, good family dogs,(if a bit clumsy), the only bad point is that they can be a bit independant, especially immature dogs going through the 'trevor the teenager' stage. Good luck in your search Ali
  17. Nothing like watching a Red and White working - stunning dogs! Ali
  18. Glad your pups on the mend a bit, main thing is to keep her warm and comfortable - if she's still a bit nervy then you could try and use some 'Rescue Remedy', a sort of herbal remedy, just until she's settled. You may find that she take a bit of a step 'backwards' in her behaviour, and becomes very submissive with the other dogs. My cocker bitch was attacked by a GSD when she was 12 weeks old, 4 hours in surgery, herniated stomach and ruptured diaphragm and a couple of crushed ribs - she was a very confident pup up until then and i found it did 'wipe out' her confidence for a while. She was
  19. Would you consider letting the nervy pup go to a non-working home? Only a thought, then you could keep the one you have worked with. Ali
  20. The proper old English terrier doesn't exist now Ali
  21. Super looking pup that, love the socks too! Ali
  22. To answer the original question, unless the cocker was a Very hard hunter, i doubt one would choose to take charley on. If a spaniel got cornered, then i s'pose it would have a go, but i think it would ruin a good dog. I like those killer Damnations though Ali
  23. Pat on the back for you mate - what a nice thing to do, great offer for a youngster. Ali
