Nice dogs bluecollar, as Aaron Proffitt says they taste a lot like Bear, not having real bears here in Australia, we have a Koala Bear that eats only gum leaves and the early settlers tried them and I think starving was a better option than eating them! Do people that hunt bear eat them and are they any good? Do they taste a bit like Pork? Cheers

Show dogs in Australia only now. were once plenty around that were good little ratters and rabbit dogs but have not heard or seen one in 40 years working terriers. Always breeders sprouting the history of them as a worker but that was 150 200 years past! same with a lot of breed Cheers

Can you still count them if you cannot see them?

People dont hunt tassie Devils as one: they are mean little suckers and two: bad news for dogs. They live in communal dens with a heap in there, a one or two dozen plus at times! If a dog goes in there the whole lot will fire up, they are generally shy and non combative and will just wander away but cornered or in their home den watch out. After a while most terriers and running dogs just ignore them. They are awesome to see at night feeding and you can see how they got the name devil, scary stuff tne hair on the back of your neck certainly stands up. Cheers

SOOTY92 Two in under tree have a close look at pic mate arse end of fox facing dog with one behind it facing away from dog FFS Work them one at a time mate not two up. burrowman not over hard but mix it a bit stay till dug and are reliable. The little red bitch is harder and mixs a lot more than the others, she is only young and will be a good one for next year. Mostly mine have started in the second season after they are 12 months so generally 14 to 20 months.

Marcos replied to PICK AND SHOVEL's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
No I wasn't mate just saying not a bad book not political or whatever in the book, just a good easy read! Re the Border Club: Here we have no real workers or beeders of working kennels so we have joined up in the UK to try and get some good advice I wasnt on the piss when I wrote it I meant it. I reckon you and old mate P&S may have a bit of a beef. I meant what I said about terriers in Australia and we are looking for help with our breeding and dogs not B.S. I hope you can get over it Cheers -

Good on you P&S I'm happy to join and be the australian rep!!! lol I got your book the other day a very enjoyable read and a table top quality book as well, I paid for it and didnt have to but wanted to see the book and make my own judgement, a bit hard to borrow a copy here in Aus, was happy I did as it will sit on the table in the lounge and I can pick it up and have a look thru when ever. As far as the club goes we need it as sure as eggs, here a lot of the KC dogs are huge ( here in Australia ) at least 15 to 17 inches plus, plus, with chests you cannot span even if you Arnie the -
Yes it is hard when you loose a dog to snakes, we hunt during the warmer months above ground in the paddocks not the creeks and plantations. Also do a lot of spotlighting for foxs and bigger stuff with the stags. Sons big Wolfhound/ cross fractured two bones in hock Sat night so up for $1000 to fix up!! Will give you a ring re the long weekend as we may be gooing to Wangaratta deer shooting will talk soon. Cheers

Bows a good one all right fellas Ive seen him in action as I had him and passed him on to Allgame good little dog that will be worth breeding from. Cheers

Digging any day of the week, we get a lot in trees and under trees but still prefer to open up on the dog doing its job, a bit harder to stay when a chainsaw fires up to cut into a tree but the good ones do stay! Cheers

A few pics of Kelpies, was reading that you use them and thought a few pics to show some of our dogs working. The pics were taken at a trial on our property. What do you use them for and do you cross them and why? Cheers
-
Nice pup BL, whats happening with your WA move? Cheers
-
Hi jigsaw was interested to see you talking about Kelpies, what do you use them for? Cant comment on the dog as cant see the pic! Cheers

I think you will find that the otter head is a show breeders criteria and if you look at old photos of borders they certainly dont have the very short muzzle of a current type. Does anyone who works borders to fox prefer a short muzzle or would you prefer a longer muzzle? Interestig link go2ground would not want to be there without the body armour! Cheers

Am trying to follow up on some older JRT dogs sent to Australia in the last 20 years or so. One dog that has comes up a bit is Brckton Toad of Bohunt anyone see this dog in the UK? Bohunt had a working line in the UK, I think then moved to Australia. Was Brockton a show line or a working kennel? Also I think E Chapman sent a few over. Does any one have info and pedigrees on terriers that were sent to Australia? Thanks in advance Marcos
