  1. I'm about 3 hours south of you on the murray river. ill see if i can work something out for ya mate! went out on friday night on one of my normal properties that usually just has roos, foxes and hares and we came across a mob of 20 red deer...
  2. the only way you'll know for sure is if you try mate...
  3. Sorry to hear about your loss, looks like a cracker of a dog! RIP
  4. My 12month pup was close to bleeding out last Sunday coz of the f*****g thing, she jumped blind and caught her leg where the vain splits in to then down to her paw on her back leg. that's similar to what happened to mine, don't even know how but mine was so deep i could see into her chest cavity! she had to get a blood transfusion. My dad hates the stuff too and every farm we buy he immediately gets rid of all the barbed wire and either high tension 7 strand plain wire in or two wire electric.
  5. one of my dogs got 16 stitches from it a month ago chasing a hare, it's the second time she's got stitches from barbed wire. bloody hate the stuff!
  6. I have it happen a lot, one dog will run right behind the quarry while the other one goes out wide and cuts it off
  7. i was thinking the same thing about the cats! my two pups caught another one yesterday that was at the dairy, it was no match for them! I'm lucky, I'm in the state where you get paid for killing foxes, but then again i haven't kept any to get the money for them, I'm too lazy haha
  8. been getting heaps of cats lately, hardly any pics though. cats make the dogs ears ugly i can tell ya that much. ill get some recent pics up for you fellas. the bitch thats starring this thread recently broke her leg so I've only been getting out with my pups.
  9. got it as a bull arab X stag, definitely a rottie cross stag. good on rabbits, odd hare and foxes. had an amazing amount of endurance, like it would never get tired, amazing nose. just wasn't keen on big game and that's what i got it for. would just run behind them and do nothing. it was about 33 inches tts
  10. make's sense, always wanted a dog that could run the terrain but catch f**k all. well ya wouldn't want a whippet cross to run fox in wide open flat land and ya wouldn't want a big deerhound to run a fox in 1 acre paddocks with heaps of cover around them would ya smartass
  11. in my opinion you look for a cross to suit the terrain you hunt, not the quarry
  12. I think if you had to get up at 5 in the morning and finish work at 10 or 11 at night 7 days a week you would come across as grumpy too.
  13. Must admit matey i wouldn't be reaching fr the mobile, danes have terrible health problems, are ungainly, cloddy and slow. I know they use them in Oz, but over there they will chuck any ole cross into the melting pot lol.......... great dane is only put in pig dog lines. no one puts em in running dog lines. We have so many different crosses over here because there is so much variation in the land
  14. Almost every running dog over here has deerhound greyhound in them. I think the average size dog over here is about 28inches to the shoulder. I like my dogs to have a bit of irish wolfhound in them for nose and power, borzoi for speed while still keeping size and their drive. All type of crosses over here but I have never seen a dog with beddy in it like a lot of your dogs have, not many collie crosses over here either I only know of two breedings.
  15. You know I've actually never thought of turning the fences off, but I probably could do it as the first spot I drive past on both farms are where the power comes from. thank you for your input skycat you're always helpful. Thanks mate, it'll probably be my last post in the sighthound section, really couldn't believe how dumb some of the people are on here... I have to say I'm not overly worried about fences as a lot of the properties I go on don't have any fences on them but it will get annoying when I take her out on my own farms. thanks for your input
  16. thanks for helping me get my message across mate. I think you've hunted with the bitch I'm talking about. Gerard had her, he got her off "dooley", the bitch goes by the name of Ripple. I've hunted with both Gerrard and Dooley, but the only Whippets I've hunted with down there belonged to Dromana, so I don't think I've seen your bitch. Cheers. It was the full sister to Milo. get less than half whippet in it but it's got the most whippet out of any of the other dogs I've had lol Milo is some dog !! If your bitch is anywhere near as good as him, she'll be a good'un !!
