Presa Canario x Saluki Bull Grey for stud??
Ausnick replied to Cunners's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
mate you realise rabbits are the slowest quarry to run? (well over here anyway) they're just agile, you do know that yeah?? the land over here is big and vast, giving the bigger dogs more time to wind up. the person that started this topic said his dog "has started to take rabbits without any training or encouragement and is very game" and you're saying he's onto something because it's half presa, I'm sorry but I don't see anything special about it. and how do you know my dog got lucky? the holes are few and far between, when my jrt got onto the rabbits they all ran away from their holes and k -

any chance that you can make her kennel fully enclosed? ya won't be able to hear her and she should grow out of it if you're giving her no attention such as telling her off etc. when she makes a sound.

catch a rabbit with ease? Are you having a laugh mate? Ask j1985. mate you obviously don't get out hunting much so why act like you know what dogs can and can't do??? you're saying his dogs must be impressive because it's size and it can catch rabbits I know of dogs 50-60kg catching rabbits and that's nothing special. your comments irritate me as you are obviously very inexperienced. Youre comment irritates me! /ive stated many a time that im new to hunting but people like you think youre something special for trying to cause a row with me? Congratualtions to you if youre Mr super hunt -

I had an ibizan stag greyhound, late maturer could catch 3/3 daytime hares, one out on foxes, soft on larger game (my fault) She was my first running dog and I made a lot of mistakes with her. ended up selling her to someone that I thought would take care of dogs and lost contact with him so don't know how she's going anymore. He had her on a few pigs over 60kg and she bailed them up which is alright. She caught me 4 foxes, 6 hares, 1 rabbit and 8 big game one night, best night I have ever had with the one dog. cheers

small dogs big quarry preban of course
Ausnick replied to fredthefrog's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
from personal experience i have seen several small dogs on different occasions take large quarry uninjured not old or unwell on a regular basis preban of course so i dont see the need for large dogs in this day with the ban it just draws unwanted attention to yourself atb the ban doesn't affect me as I'm in Aus. What are you considering large quarry? I had a ridgeback bull stag, powerful little bugger, the only problem he had was his height and now I've got two pups out of him that are 27 inches and 29 inches to the shoulder and excel on large stuff. our large quarry does not c -

from personal experience. I think the only big quarry the small dogs can handle well is either the sick, injured, elderly or very young animals. One of the whippets a mate has will handle bigger stuff good but ALWAYS gets hurt, where the bigger dog will come off fine and ready to go. of course not all small dogs are the same but from the 6 I've seen work, I think I'll stick to larger dogs... -
love the dog. I want it lol

My all rounder which is a Roodog. Catches any game day or night. will mark a fox hole or rabbit hole by digging at it. retrieves shot game will catch birds in the light. Kills everything one out no matter the size and a well mannered dog. she also finds any game. Her daughter is starting to find foxes very well and kill them one out at 13 months old. I don't think she'll be quick enough for hare though so she can't be classed as an all rounder.

I'm guessing you lot don't use your dogs on deer because of the popularity of hunting them with guns and bow?

Looks like USA is easily the best country to live in if you have a love for running dogs.

went out for a bit of a look today to see what the terrier did. had no interest in the cattle or calves but was keen to go after other stuff with the running dogs. Got this pic when it held still for a second.

to give a comparison, it's about the same size as my staghounds head. hoping it won't turn out too big for dens!

Yep 16 weeks old today and I just took the picture. cheers

Having had gundogs and running dogs for 7 years I always said I would get a terrier but tonight it was when I picked up my first one. She's 4 months old, the guy I got her off said she's a jack russell, her parents are both den dogs and mix it up a bit in the den. Here's a picture of her. Let us know what you think and any advice will be greatly appreciated. Cheers
