Not wrong there, tables have turned now though and most decent brickys/tradespeople can tell them to stick their job up their arse and be on another job in 10 mins lol. Grass isn't always greener though and I think you are best to try to stick to your favoured companies etc. Am off to drive up to Peak District with mrs and kids for a walk up and over Kinder Scout will.hopefully be a bit of snow up there. Have got to meet lurcherlad off here as got him a little ferret jill and also Mick Dadd to get some new bits and bobs off him. They are decent nets. Put the line up jiggy lol

Most of us learn by our mistakes and feck me I've done some but am at that stage in my life now where I don't really miss too much and people wouldn't believe the kind of problems we have to get over. I'm sure there are a few brickys on here and you just do it without thinking if you keep checking your work and taking your time it's fairly simple and experienced brickys can get over most things. I was gradually easing my way out of the building trade to other things, but over the past few years have been on some jobs where you can name your price and are being begged to work by companies

You're not a bricky are you pal ? anybody can lay a brick even my kids can, they come with me on a weekend for any private jobs I do. Most decent brickys will use some kind of profile usually a Blake etc which are gauged up not just for fun but because we work to it. We sometimes do big office blocks and I will set the buildings out and put datums which we work to gauge to, give or take a few mm. If you pick your gauge up 35mm it will cause you a hell of a problem and the guy wanted 2100mm pillars not 2135mm ones. Nearly everything in a building works to gauge ie doors, windows etc you don't j

I normally get the lads to bump up the external brick work corners 5-10mm just to help them get over this as it then keeps your lintels sitting nice, all that comes with experience. The problem nowadays is getting decent reliable lads most of them want the money but don't want to do any work.
-
You are right in what you are saying but when you are laying blocks flat you actually need 12.5mm beds or sometimes more or less as blocls come in different sizes and you've still got to work to gauge, you can't make your own gauge up you have to compensate with beds according to material size. You wouldn't believe the meetings I have had over the years with brick and block reps over their tolerance of materials
-
Jiggy did you get your tape from the Pound Shop lol. You're 25mm out of gauge and years behind we've moved on from Imperial. 9 x 225mm (215mm block + 10mm bed) = 2,025mm + 75mm briquette and bed = 2.1m height that is required. I think you forgot to measure for your mortar between your beds or are you using dry stone wall measurements lol. For many years materials have been coming in at various sizes but you've still got to stick to gauge. If your external wall was 25mm too high and I walked round with NHBC at joist or wall plate height they would condemn the house because all your li

2.1m standard height for most external doors on new builds = 28 courses of bricks or 9 courses of blocks and a briquette. If you just pick your gauge up slightly you can do away with the briquette. 2 courses of 4in concrete blocks per upright block = 18 x 4.5 = 81 x 2 pillars = 162 blocks. 675mm x 675mm would be easier as it's just a full block (450mm) and the header of the next block 215mm + 10mm perp If you really need a 600mm x 600mm pillar I will PM you the easiest way to do it. Hope this helps, do you want to borrow a trowel ?

Ferret picked up by Flacko earlier, he is a cracking bloke even for a Brummie lol. When you have spent time on them it's nice to know that they will be well looked after and he is also welcome to a little hob if I breed one of my jills next year
-
He is one of the nicest and most genuine chaps you will ever meet. I have had him out a few times over past few years and he has saved me a fortune in unnecessary vet bills for treatment that was not needed

Ferret now gone to Flacko he is collecting it tomorrow

If anyone is genuinely looking for a small jill ideal for falconry work or just want a small ferret for bolting for your dogs. These are bred by me for me so they are out of decent working stock and I keep the kits back for myself as they tend to go to ground quicker. I don't want her to go to someone who is just going to use her for breeding want her to go to a good working home for someone who likes a small ferret and has struggled to get hold of one, they are not one of these tiny micro things but they are small but they do the job. It has been out bolting bunnies so ready to go out I

When you have got the right night, wind in the right direction etc and there's plenty of bunnies out I think it's my favourite way of pest control as it's hard but very rewarding. It's a bit of a cheat but I treated myself to a thermal imager from Ian off here about one and a half years ago, what a game changer no more running nets out and a fox has just beaten you to it as you just spend a few nights before seeing where rabbits are and where they go. When you have not been out with a thermal before it's surprising what's actually out and about and how many rabbits are right out and duck

This is a pup that I bred from my bitch she is 23ins the mum is a saluki x whippet and the dad is just a good old fashioned bit of everything. Couldn't have been more pleased with her cracking little dog I also have her brother too he's one of those special dogs that you only get every so often loyal as hell and brave as a lion. The first few times I took him out lamping he was catching bunnies with ease he doesn't stop he just keeps on going! -
Hopefully someone decent will take up the offer, problem is nowadays people end up going back so you are limited to where you can take them until you can trust them. Have got plenty of places to go but getting someone reliable and trustworthy is a problem. I end up taking my kids most of the.time but they can end up getting bored after a few hours. It's a cracking place to give your dog a run as they are right out the dog would need to be 100% stock trained

Maybe tomorrow i have a nice easy ferreting job and need extra pair of hands for other side of the hedge if it's not tomorrow it will definitely be next Sunday. Close to Derby - no idiots please! I have all the gear but you are welcome to bring your own ferrets and you can have the bunnies we get. If we get on it can be a regular thing. We should get 10-15 bunnies in a couple of hours and can park right next to the sets. If anyone is interested please PM me

For many years i have always used smallish jills but am now favouring the hobs as they are now half the size of most small jills. They are all tough feisty little buggers and nippier than the average ferret but come good with the right owners and are all cracking workers. I do a lot of big warrens long netting etc so you would expect a half decent size ferret to work all day but the hob side of the litters are little hunting machines and go all day. I never used to be keen on small skinny lurchers and small ferrets thought they would lack stamina especially in winter cold months but they

I've used Nite Site products for many years and am very happy with them. I had 2/3 faulty Vipers which put me off them a bit but now got a Wolf RTek and it's a cracking piece of kit and was very happy with it until I spoke to IanB and got myself a Pulsar Helion thermal all I can say is wow am so impressed with it no more searching for bunnies in nettles long grass etc. Nice chap to deal with too am looking to treat myself to a thermal rifle scope next

Ditto mate thought it was just me he couldn't be arsed to get back to as he has read my PM as well

They are still going as I bought a few stop nets recently and some spare aluminium poles for my long net. You can get their phone number from the website.

I've got a couple of permissions that I go at night time that are a bit sensitive in the day lol. I sellotape one of the medium sized fishing starlights onto my Mk3 collar you can spot them brilliantly. The rabbits seem to bolt even better as not sure why but I never seem to have to dig at night the rabbits probably think what the bloody hell is that coming down the tunnel and my kids love it. I find having a decent headtorch helps as well. Good luck ☺

Niteshite you're right there! I bought one brand new as I have had one of the old NS50's which I bought years ago and have always been pretty impressed with it. The Viper however is a different story the first one I got picture was all grainy so sent it back they said it had a faulty screen which they supposedly replaced but this was even worse with a thick white line straight through middle of the screen and still grainy. After being offered a third repair which I told them I didn't want I gave them two opportunities to mend it but insisted they sent me a new one had to get Trading Standards
