Have just bought a load of rabbiting gear off a friend of mine who is giving it up due to ill health. There are quite a few live rabbit traps but it's not really my thing so am going to have a try with the kids. Does anyone have much luck with them at all, any tips would be most welcome.

?thanks for that, that will be a job for my Mrs lol

Got some footage of the other night when i let my kids do some night time ferrering and i just recorded them on my themal. Its nice for anyone who hasnt seen through a thermal before. My Mrs has downloaded the footage to my phone but can't seem to be able to post it on here. If anyone can upload it for me if I send it through to them or tell me how to do it, that would be great ? There is a funny bit on there where my daughter runs straight past the rabbit in the long net as it was pitch black lol. Thanks

We normally go when there is a full moon as the kids enjoy it and it's surprising how bright it is. Night was a lot longer than normal due to little lad, having to walk back to car and drive him all way back home after just getting set up and all the way back again after realising he had left some stuff there. We drove back at about 1.30am in the morning and thought whilst we were there me and my daughter might as well bang net back on and carry on and get some more. I'm going to leave it for a week or two until moon is back up and give it another go.

ZacB - the kids really enjoy ferreting at night time it's funny when the ferret pops it's head up with the star lights on as they really stand out. Made me laugh about the socks they are actually thermal ones that's my daughter whose socks you can see ? It didn't quite go as planned as had to take little lad home after an hour and a half as just got all the long net up (left the purse nets off), bunnies were bolting out all over the shop and then he took a right tumble down a rabbit hole so decided to take him home as he was whinging a bit and he had left a few bits behind as it was all a

My kids have been asking to go night time ferreting as they really enjoy it lol. Just taped fishing star lights to the collars and off we go. Picked a nice easy set out in the open with plenty of bunnies in. The bunnies seem to bolt really quickly at night. Maybe it's because they are top of the set. I'm going to run longnet round the set and they have just 10 nets each.and going to film them on my thermal.

Hi Moocher71 Bit spooky.that - was just talking about you earlier when we were out. Never thought I would say.this but if I had to keep only one ferret it would be him. As you know i prefer a small ferret but he is a pleasure to own and he does everything I ask of him and more. I must say though mate in all the years of having ferrets I can never remember a young ferret take to rabbiting like he has as you know what young ferrets can be like knocking nets off, not going deep enough into the sets etc. A funny thing he does on the odd occasion when the rabbit bolts out and runs in a bit of

He was pal and we have been out again today just mainly bolting them no nets for the dogs. We put a few nets down on a set to start with and two bolted out at the same time next to each other and he's not stopped telling everyone about it since then. The first pic is him helping me put the nets down and i even managed to get my Mrs to put some down. The second pic is when two came out at same time might print it off and he can take it to school with him for show and tell ?. After an hour or so he went off and climbed a few trees and then he came back with something that looked

Yes mate there is nothing better than seeing your kids out in the fresh air and passing your knowledge onto them and hearing that bump bump bump underground but unfortunately youngsters nowadays seem to be less and less into it

Cheers for the ? lads, have just shown my little lad. Bobtheferret - went to do the first set with about 20 to 30 holes in it in the middle of the field and some cheeky poacher had beaten me to it, little round pegs lol. Fair play to them ?. Bolted 4 or 5 out of it though then we went to do another set and i let my lad net it up and I just put my long net around it just to show him. Had quite a few out of that one but to.tell the truth Bob it's over run with them and then I went and fetched my dog and bolted a load for him. I will.post a few pics up later. We got 30 odd in the end and had

Got my little lad 30 new nets for himself to use a few months ago and he is raring to go. We have got a few hours spare today so we are off out on our first ferreting trip of the season. I am going to teach him how to set them himself and see how he gets on, he's only 5 so his attention does wander after 2 minutes lol. If he is as good as his older sister I will be well chuffed.

Cheers pal ? I've also met some cracking chaps over the years and you're right you can pick up some very useful information off them through their many years of being out and about. There doesn't seem to be as many people into it though nowadays

He sure was, he's mad on survival stuff and hunting. It's about time to start getting ferrets and nets etc out as he loves coming out rabbiting with me ?

Decided to go camping with the family down local woods where I grew up. Everything you see in the pic was promised to my little lad by decent members on this forum. I would like to say a big thank you to them they know who they are, they wouldn't even let me pay for the postage costs! The knife has a little firestarter in it and my little lad has just started his first fire with it, he absolutely loves it and I am sure I will be able to repay the favour. Cheers again as I know there are some funny buggers on here lol, but I think the hunting community should help each other out.

You're welcome pal, nice.to have another experienced pair of hands you will be doing me a favour. Will PM you and we can sort something out.

Nonsense lol - am too busy a chap to get into discussions over a few bloody bunnies. Training ferrets not to kill you have obviously not read the post. I use a slightly smaller ferret as they kill a lot less. I go out to enjoy seeing my dogs running etc and am away on holiday most weekends so rabbiting discussions are bottom of my things to do lol. Just off out now with my daughter to pop some bunnies off for a family friend for my vegetarian ferrets lol. This is my last post as I've said my bit and everyone is entitled to their opinion and each to their own. It's about catching a fe

I don't think its so much the size of the ferret that makes it stop down, some ferrets just seem to go to ground more. The thing that makes a lot of difference is the amount of times the ferret gets dragged out on the back end of a bunny it's quite funny to watch. Obviously with a lot bigger ferret the bunnies are going nowhere which means waiting around and more digging. The amount of times my ferrets get dragged out which obviously results in a lot less digging. Probably the same people up north who you are on about who I have known for many years. I went out at the end of the season with th

That top.pic is brilliant exactly how kids should be brought up, out in the fresh air fishing with his dad ?
-
I've got quite a few smallish size ferrets not micros as that's just a stupid made up name they are just small ferrets. They are all albinos as they stand out better I very rarely dig for them, I do use collars and I can't whistle them out. After years and years of ferreting these suit my kind of ferreting that I do, deep sandy sets and bolting for the dogs. They do kill now and again block enders but that's what they are down there for. A lot of people think their way is right but as long as you are happy then that's all that matters. I am quite lucky to have access to a lot of land with

Tench used to be one of my favourite fish to catch have had some cracking tench sessions used to get there just before it got light, bit of brown ground bait and fishing over the top with corn or just the head of a worm, right next to the reeds. Have fallen out of love with coarse fishing and same old fish and scenery tight lines lol ?
-
Thanks for the advice fireman, I'm itching to get back out lol ? I've been watching loads of videos and reading up about how to catch Conger eels what bait and tackle to use etc as I have never seen one

I can remember you mentioning that before crossing the Solent, I often look across and think one day lol but there's a lot of big bloody boats ? Another weekend of lovely sea fishing and kayaking just finished. Think I've just found the perfect place or maybe 30 mins of good luck. Went for 3 hours and had 3 rods out off the beach, ragworm on one, mackerel and sandeel on the others, 2.5 hours with not even a nibble so moved a bit further up the beach next to a sea wall in half an hour had 4 good size bass, had a ray of some kind but came off just before I got it to shore as had a 6 or 7lb

Nice little pic of me and kids that my Mrs took off her kayak

Had plenty of small fish and managed 2 decent sized bass and my little lad got 3 mackerel. I just fish for pleasure following the coast on kayaks with the family and a bit of beach fishing when we stop for a bit of food. My Mrs has contacted the RNLI to see if they have any leaflets etc on falling into cold water that we can hand out whenever we are at the beach or I can arrange to get some printed myself as a lot of people think that just because they say their kids can swim they will be alright and go 100-150m out on lilos, dinghies etc with no life jacket on. Been out again today

Couldn't have worded it better myself mate. We spend most of our spare time doing sea related activities my kids are like little otters but its always safety first. We have only just got back after having a cracking day out with family on kayaks fishing and snorkelling which has taken their minds off yesterday's events. It's a shame for the poor chaps family though. I must have counted about 10-15 kids today right out on those inflatable kayaks with no life jackets on had a word with a couple of the parents about yesterday, so hopefully some good will come out of it. Cheers for the
