  1. Mine gets this when she's been through nettle patches - the ones which grow near us are particularly nasty for some reason! I use an aloe vera gel which I originally bought to treat rain scald on my horse but it's also great for lurchering injuries, don't know what it's called but cheap and can get it at most feed stores. I know a lot of people who treat their dogs with manuka honey, but this stuff works as well and doesn't cost a stupid amount per jar! By the way, you can give any non-drowsy human antihistamine to dogs and it won't do any harm.
  2. We've always got lurchers with a deerhound base, but I'm def leaning towards getting one with a decent amount of whippet soon. I was out with mine - deerhound/grey/saluki/bearded collie (26") and a whippet/grey/collie (about 21") belonging to a friend and although mine was faster, the whippet x had fantastic agility and could turn on a dime. Good luck finding a litter, I like the sound of the mix you're after!
  3. My last lurcher was a deerhound gsd mix and was very vocal as a pup and at play but absolutely silent at work, day or night once she got to the 1yr - 18 month mark. I don't think it's that simple to predict early on what they'll be like, my inlaws have a very pricey english pointer you can't take out any where as she is simply too noisy!
  4. Thank you, she was still too young last summer so this is the first real opportunity we've had to introduce her to rabbits. I also very much agree that it would be great to take her out with some experienced workers, we will try and find some contacts but we moved from the countryside to a less rural area so lost touch with the lurcher workers we knew previously! I'm glad also someone agrees about deerhound crosses being a bit slower - she seems to show a fair few saluki traits too - stubborness and a lack of brains to go with it! I do think she's got potential though so we will carry on
  5. Hi, I'm completely new to this forum although not new to lurchers! I have been struggling a bit with my new girl Lyra, she's 14 months now, 1/2 deerhound, 1/4 grey, 1/8 beardie 1/8 saluki. Sire is working lurcher dam show lurcher, Lyra purchased as a pet but my husband and I greatly enjoyed hunting with our last lurcher who sadly died in an accident last year. With our last girl she just went to rabbiting naturally and would catch, bring to us and then kill on our say so. She was excellent at finding in the grass and bracken and had brilliant focus. I will admit though it took her til age
