  3. Better pic of him and brothers full bred deerhound...the full bred has done well on fox at end of last season and drew is about 5 and is still doing fox..
  4. Drew 5/8 deerhound 3/8 greyhound..31" and great temperament plus easy worked..
  5. Had this cross when we were younger fist cross,,a bitch made about 25" excellent lamper and more speed than you would expect, she lifted plenty of winter hares during the day,,(we don't have large open fields),she only started doing fox when she got to around 5yr old for some strange reason.. After she died I tried a dog the next time but he went very heavy and big, didn't make the grade.. But would Def try a bitch again if opportunity arose.. should have old pics somewhere..
  6. I've recently done genetic inheritance module on a degree course...your statement as is, could not be possible. Possibly you have misrepresented what had been stated.. For example some phenotypes are genetically dominant providing certain epigenetic factors are in place, leaving them susceptible to certain traits coming to the fore.. But I would be interested in reviewing this paper that stated these facts.
  7. Has to be rough coat..just a personal preference..
  8. Nice pup and turned into nice dog,,,,is that from your brindle bitch..
  9. Only ever seen one working border and that was over 15years ago...good bitch she was as well..
  10. Planning on breeding this bitch later,,,if she has any more than 3 you can have one...if you get sorted before that,,,no harm done...you can pm me if you need any details..
  11. 5/8 deerhound, 3/8 greyhound. Ones 30" and other is 32" Deerhound temperament is hard to beat, also took a while to get ones that didn't mind teeth..
  12. No but like everything it can depend on the hound,,,one of my hardest hunting hounds from a while back never put a tooth in a fox for years.. I keep a lurcher at my heel when out with hounds.
  13. I usually work 3-4 hounds when out,but when you have a couple they need to be good,, sometimes when they check on scent it can take bit longer to pick up the line as less noses searching,,but definitely some fun can be had with small pack..
  14. Inner wolf are selling them at the moment,,,£589 for handheld and 2 collies.20km radius, up to 9 dogs, tells you if there's quarry (marking)and big bonus of 3yr warranty..UK company, don't think the handheld has maps feature (most of us can manage without I'd think). I had been enquiring about them today, Def contemplating a sett..
  15. Has anyone used these and are they durable..l know they don't have maps just distance and direction of hunt, plus let you know if they are marking...a lot cheaper and available from British dog with 3yr warranty..
  16. Country hate.com sell the bellman & co hunting horn.they are in eBay as well..was checking last night...are they a good horn?
  17. I like the look of him. Does he hold a scent well? Does he bark to a scent or run silently? Its 7 months old. Yes, I saw that but when he said real forward I assumed the pup had self started.7mths and by forward i mean no nerves and nothing new bothers him. He has hunted a bunny or two and silent. Hopefully he wont open up and i will be trying to train him like a conventional lurcher but if he does open up i will use him with my hounds so either way i will have a use for him he is nearly 25" at shoulder at the minute so will be ig dog
