i'm not doubting your word but what a damning statement , it like the statements made about the border 20 years ago .... deja vu

firstly there are still a fair few good lakeys around i dug to one this season from a long line of workers but from what i saw in my area , there were a few reasons , without doubt the Show scene had a huge impact on the lakeland/fell type , studs were used for what they did in the show ring not in the ground , another thing was the standard of terrierman , some very well known north walians and over the border thought nothing of doubling up and more !!! they also didn't have the bottle to carry on as things got dodgy so spent there glory days in the summer months showing and the selling bu

wish i had a camera in the late 70's early 80's at llangollen show the border/lakie ruled I can remember some really good ones but they didn't look like what we have now , they where heavy headed big boned broken coated with a borderish look about them , nothing like the pipe cleaners trimmed out bodies to make the untrimmed long snipey head look big , way to much Kc lakeland in them now

gifted ,sell do what you want to do but keep it honest about the dogs , i have in the past filled other mens kennels , and once was royal f****d over, other if you gave them two rats they'd manage to breed mice, i've just bred a litter and gave them away all to working homes and hopefully they will do the job , i paid the stud reared them and then placed them ... my old chap god rest him couldn't get his around giving pups away , as he said "if you walked into someone house and said thats a nice TV would they give you it , would they f**k your f***ing mad" he had a point all i know is i'll gif

Times have changed and not for the better all i know is when i started out these men were held in high regard , and if you scratch beneath the surface of the patterdale all roads lead back to them its a reputation which would of soon fallen apart if the dogs where rubbish , they themselves would of used other peoples blood its getting the mix right which is what they did the boom in the blacks was then taken on by the next generation of breeders most already mentioned in my life time i saw the same thing happen with Nick Stevens bred terriers during the 90's his terriers were the must

Cheers Shane, looking forward to starting the one pup this autumn/winter
-
Get him bred , i've done that breeding a few times and the daughters were tight bred, don't waste your time rearing any weaklings from the litter
-
just a couple of keepers places to sort out next weekend and thats it for this season , unless its a call out , let the old enjoy the sun and the pups grow
-
20th century these men were at it, both drove, and traveled to dig , F.Buck dug in my area and across north wales even taking a few pups from the Ynsfor Hunt
-
there are a few but they just work them breed them and are not on here so wouldn't embarrass them by naming them on here
-
totally agree with you but without the foundation stock the ones you mention had nothing , and they must of known what they wanted and to Breay and Buck and the others breeding the type is who they went to , and they didn't just produced fox killers both were kean badger diggers , the fox killer theory was pushed by Plummer he did love a bit blood and gore to write about lol and one supposed quote by C.Breay was it even repeated in the context it may of been quoted in ? i've talked to a few who had top rate digging dogs from both men long before i was born
