Spent the day up at High Borrans, had my two out but i cant photograph and chase them simultaneously anyway snapped a few of my mates dogs. wee Bert the cocker pup; sam a young ESS dog, dotty a wee bitch and Tula his old wildfowler, rough shooter spaniel. and this being Cumbria.............yes it rained :brr:

a springer will work on the marsh, ive seen plenty on there, but a lab will do it better; a lab can work cover but similarly a spaniel will do it better. obviously there'll be good labs that will be better than poor spaniel and vice versa, but if your looking at averages best to stick to whatever you fancy and then live with it,,,or as has been suggested...get one of each, i did

thats it, recommendation for a sling for my Baikal, swivels already attached just looking for a good sling, the two that were bought for my birthday [original plus replacement] from the local shop by the missus wouldnt fit. Any suggestions advice appreciated cheers.

had both my spaniels hung up on double strand wire, not a pleasant thing dog squealing and dangling upside down, both times i was close enough to get in take the weight [cocker and a very small ESS, thank feck the labs never done it] and get them sorted. not something i'm keen to experience again! mine will jump for fun, im usually shooting over them so i can choose how and when i send them, plus its mostly over walls so i'm lucky. barbed wire nasty stuff best avoided if you can...not always possible but best to take a few precautions..risk assessment, why send it over the wire for a stone

impressed with the woodcock, ive noticed a lot of young dogs [a few older ones for that matter] will blank on woodcock and snipe, i'm always delighted when my young uns take to them. lovely looking dog, if circumstances were different i'd be sorely tempted by a vizla but for now i'll stick with my "dinky cockers"

had the cocker out on the fells for the first time yesterday, no flushes unless you count the snipe coming off the bog but still pleased with his progress responded well to the whistle and didnt stray too far. two blind retrieves, a nice rabbit to start with and then a snipe later on which i was well chuffed with, both nicely to hand! next season is going to be great using the cocker in the morning meant the ESS didnt tire and was able to maintain her speed and drive throughout after lunch, the little bitch only works flat out a pocket rocket but this tends to tire her on a full day so th

keep plugging away, im losing the sight in my right eye so am having to learn to adapt, its a bugger but i just keep plugging away. find what works and stick with it.
