Patterdale x bull whats think
grafter-man replied to Patterbull's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
Grafter man im speaking for myself in relation to the one i have at in kennells. He is a straightx staffxpatt and for your first question he will find and has found anywhere i have put him,and he has been in some big places.I dont see how bull blood would hinder him as i think and this is my opinion, that staff's have a really good nose on em,they will hunt like any other terrier on top if brought up correctly.I find they enter very easily with a will to do the job they were bred for.Size wise, again im speaking for myself, the one i have is smaller than any of the black dogs i keep, and smaller t -
Patterdale x bull whats think

just stuck a jagd terrier to a bully type patt , reason for early breeding is first how much they 2 cost me , the jagd 2k and patterdale almost 1k including plane ticket. So thats 3k for 2 dogs, so i wanted to breed them before they die working or get lost as 2 days before the breeding i almost lost my patterdale .all pups will be given free to hunters . Anyway i like the will to drive and nose of the jagd and hunting instinct. My patt is a grand son to la' grip and jg'ice and i like his temperament dogs behind him and yes he couldnt finish a feral act him self he cried and let go but atleast -
Ha! Ha! Ha! that is pretty funny. Okay, unless you imported the sharpei yourself, from Japan, from a breeder who actually breeds specifically for this use, or know the knob that did, chances are it was not gamebred as they have not been bred or used for this purpose for decades only show and lapdogs. After the APBT swept through the fighting sharpei became a memory as they couldn't stay with them in the fastlane. Even the sharpei of those day was not noted as being VERY GAME as was stated in the original post they would fight but not extended periods of time as the APBT or gamecock. Now those

Patterdale x bull whats think
grafter-man replied to Patterbull's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
Just a few questions for the fans of such a cross, how do you rate the finding ability? Does the bull blood in your obsevations somewhat hinder or disrupt the over-all finding or will to enter earth in the first few generations of the cross? What is to be expected from this cross? My guess it is to improve the finishing ability, correct me if I'm wrong. And how many generations does it take to return to a handy working size? Many thanks in advance, all the best. -
Masta, this is my take on terriers that were ruined due to starting too early=. They are just that, "RUINED". They were never properly tested because they were ruined before they aged enough to even begin. The fault lies within the owner and his/her stupidity but the harsh reality is the terrier quit, now, if it was the terriers fault or not we will never know, we just know he quit. That being said, I dont think the owner should make excuses, they should simply admit their own mistakes, learn from them, and do their best to prevent the same mistakes. Prime example as to why proper placement sh

Well I will say this , First off any mature, seasoned, terrier that will leave quarry in a sett after it has entered and engaged, before it was dug to and dispatched, is a cull, and should be used as backfill. If you witness a terrier perform such an act, you are looking at a quitter! period! YES SIR IT'S TRUE!! That being said I have seen terriers engage in brushpiles etc., and come out only to shoot back in from a better angle. So I dont hold it against the worker to position itself better. I am talking about the ones that enter, engage, and then come out as if there is nothing there, or

Great looking dog mate, but, it is a sharpei cross and you use the words VERY GAME??? It is more than obvious that our definitions of game are very different. No doubt the dog is game driven or has a high prey drive but the sharpei is not a true game bred dog. I'm not being rude or slagging, but, that is really throwing the word game around way too loose. Just because a dog will attack vermin doesnt make him/her game mate. What happens when that sharpei cross takes what it dishes out?? Chances are it will pack up as it is not a gamebred animal such as the APBT, Gamecock, and SOME working staf

I can't see why the cross wouldn't work IF the sire and dam to the breeding were both workers. Some russell blood will bring the size down a bit if the fell is a bit large. And with any cross or breeding if none work, maybe you should look into the sire and dam more as individuals. all the best

My experiences and my knowledge is not from hunting dogs, it's from APBTs, but I can't believe that there is a very big difference. Dont fool yourself mate, there is a world of difference in the two. And when you attempt to produce true worker/hunters you will discover this for yourself. The APBT was bred to fight or finishing ability which DOES NOT HAVE SHITE TO DO WITH HUNTING TRAITS!! It is exactly this train of thought that is killing the true working terrier. Also explains why there is so few terriers that will actually complete the task the type was originated for. I can say

i would say jagds are energetic vocal and head strong. Actually very very very energetic you would notice that straight away , they just dont sit still. I wonder where they got that trait from, fox terriers ? 17yrs ago a Jagd in the U.K. would have cost you 1000 Sterling, there were only 4 litters as far as I was aware. Now !!,God Knows how much one would be? last couple years jagd terriers cost 1500-2000 australia dollar. This year should be cheaper as those who bought them will breed them. one big nasty cycle

Well done Sweeper, Glad to see some still value proper placement over the euro or dollar.

A terriers tail is a long way from his heart mate. all the best.
-
How you doing not all world beaters but do for me They definately have the look of the old genuine type and looks like you are doing your part to keep the right traits in place.
-
Here's a few of my lakies Impressive looking workers! Did you breed them yourself? If so great job.
-
top blood hard to come bye its all the same saluki bloodline witch is no good in my eyes new blood whats needed and that dont come cheap A terrific example.

The first thing that needs to be addressed is the real truth about terriers, money, and quality!!! THE COST OF THE TERRIER DOES NOT A DAMN THING TO DO WITH HUNT DRIVE, LOCATING-FINDING ABILTY, STAYING, AND IS A LONG FECKING WAY FROM HIS HEART, OR ROUGHLY TRANSLATED IT DOES NOT HAVE SHITE TO DO WITH HOW HE WILL PERFORM IN THE BUSH!!! YOU BETTER BELIEVE THAT!!! Take a stroll through some of these website kennels here on the W.W.W. and look at some of the prices for pups!! Up to $1000.00 US on on some sites. Would I pay that? NO, fecking way! That is truthfully robbery by the peddler, an

Yes, There are some great fells out there in circulation these days, but keep in mind, there are good and bad in every type mate. I simply admire the "worker" and judge every terrier as individuals according to their actions in the bush, regardless of the type, a worker is just that, a worker, regardless of color, type, coat, bloodline or what it cost you. Very true though, fells are my personal favorite for many reasons, and I have seen some very good looking fells as well as some that looked as if they were beat with an ugly stick, but, even the ugly ones become truly beautiful when they ent

What type work do you plan to do with the terrier, or do you plan on working it? (earthwork?, bushing?, ratting?) What would be the main quarry you would be digging with the terrier? What type terrier do you see yourself working? (russell, fell, lakeland, border, etc.) All the best in your search mate.

cant find? or dont want to?
grafter-man replied to strongbow's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
Sometimes the dog is just OUT-RIGHT a cull as it should be known that there are culls in just about every litter born while they may have excellent working siblings in the same litter. (Although the peddlers will tell you their killers produce nothing but hardcore workers and nothing less!) Very true, if a young one takes too much stick at a young or tender age it could ruin him/her. I have seen alot of people who had no buisness at all owning a working terrier (or any breed or type for that matter),they get good prospects from proven working parents that never put a bad foot forward, and they -

Why Working Terrier should not be pet
grafter-man replied to Mosby's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
I would have to disagree a little, and I stress "little". My best grafter spends as much time in the house next to me as she does in her kennel. (maybe more). I will admit that in the beginning I wasnt as close to her as I am now because if she didnt work I would have back-filled with her in a second. But with every dig she proved herself more and more and after I saw time and time again her proving herself, I found myself becoming attached. After all it was her working ability that I was drawn to and the fact that she wouldn't leave quarry or a sett once she entered and engaged even though sh
