Great Game Fairs of Ireland racing update
Martin Tucker replied to AlbertJ's topic in Gamefairs, Meet Up's and Events
My own opinion is that there are too many varients ! You have the KC Whippet, the non-registered pedigree Whippet. Then you have the small, light racing Whippet ie Paris and Ernie (both Under 23` and around the 30lb mark). Then you have the heavy Under 23` 45lbs ish like Diego, China and my own Winnie. The small, light racing Whippet has NO chance against the heavy Under 23`. Just like the KC and non-registered pedigree whippet has NO chance against the light racing Whippet. If he can beat them, then i`d question his breeding ! I think there needs to be some clarifacation as to wh -

Classifying whippets for racing
Martin Tucker replied to AlbertJ's topic in Gamefairs, Meet Up's and Events
Yawn Paddybar ! Don`t go comparing the Greyhound Racing World with Game Fairs ! It just demonstrates how little you know ! In the Greyhound world there are grades and rules, so you know what grade you are in and so does the racing manager and everybody else. A white board in a field stating non-pedigree whippets doesn`t really come across very clear. Is it non-papered KC Whippets, non-pedigree whippets or anything that resembles a whippet ? So be warned Paddybar, when you`re organising your Show next season, make sure you have eveything perfectly clear from the start, so as to avoid -
Classifying whippets for racing

Listen lurcher330 this is all `handbag` stuff ! I was led to believe that it was okay to run Ernie in the non-ped section, as that is what he is in my eyes. I just wanted to give the old dog a run in a group that seemed to be the correct group on the day. If somebody had come up and said he wasn`t allowed to run, then fine, would have given him a run in the Under 23`. My main interest was the big dogs with Ginger Jack, Ernie came for the day out and he got to run. He hasn`t plundered all the prizes throughout his career as he always ran in the Under 23` class the few times he has comp -

Here`s his pedigree for all to see ! Intereseting to note that it appears on the `Non-Pedigree Whippet Database ` http://www.k9community.co.uk/cgi-bin/nonped/pedigree.pl?op=tree&index=2221&gens=5&db=nonped.dbw I see his Great grandmother is a greyhound, however I disagree that his pedigree contains `a lot of greyhound` ! Like I said at the onset he is classed in the UK as a non-ped Whippet. Event organisers in Ireland, in the future will need to be more exact as to the conditions of entries as he was entered in a class that was for Non-ped Whippets and that is what he i -
Most shows have Under 23 and Overs. As far as I was concerned there was a non-pedigree whippet section, so I entered that Now as far as i`m concerned that what I class him as, that is what he is classed in the UK, but in your eyes he`s a lurcher and therefore your right ! Rose can run her dogs in what ever group she decides and have often run against them and her mums Paris. Paris would be of the same type of Whippet as Ernie. Roses would have a lot more Greyhound blood in them but would still be classed as Whippets in the UK and thats where the problem lies. What`s classed as a no

Thank you Danny300 , I have to agree ! About losing............... tell me about it. Having been involved racing Greyhounds for 30 years i`ve seen everyside of losing from disappointments of injuries, losing finals with my dogs and ones we bred. Had two in the English Derby final by my stud dogs finished 2nd and 3rd ! Have also had great times and met the best people and have friends all over the world. Speedy and Lurcher are nobodys, but they are good at pressing on a raw nerve !

Have decided not to both running my lads at any shows other than what they run down in Enniscorthy or Roscrea, as the hassle is just not worth it ! Ernies too old anyway. It`s a shame people like to stick their noses into things that dont concern them and spoil it for others. Pity you didn`t come and vent your fellings on Saturday Speedy1234, as opposed to hiding behind the computer. Albert i`ll gladly return your cheque to you to donate to an Animal Rescue of your chioce. However, my young lad wants to keep the rosette and trophy if that`s okay with you ?

Speedy1234 your a loser and a trouble maker. I was there long enough to have a quick look around the stalls, before I headed to Shelbourne Park to meet up with an owner of mine over from the UK to watch his dog run in the Derby. I handle his two stud dogs here at my Kennels. Both Group One winners and winners of considerable more than €50 and a red rossette ! A full whippet with no papers....... a contradiction there. No papers......non-pedigree whippet in my book. We can argue, you have your opinion, I have mine, lurcher or non-ped racing whippet. England or Ireland ! Please tell

Tell the hundreds of people that race dogs like Ernie in the UK that they have Lurchers and the monthly magazine be renamed the Lurcher News and see what answer you get ! I ran Ernie in the class I deemed suitable for him, ie the non-ped Whippet section ! Why shouldn`t he ? He is a Racing bred Whippet, not a racing bred lurcher Had this argument numerous times and i`m afraid it don`t wash with me and it just shows how far out of date you are ! Move on and stop stirring sh**e. It`s only a bit of fun and a day out. I`ve been to plenty of meets with Ernie in his younger days and got s

I really enjoyed Saturday. The weather held up well and as usual, the Roscrea lads showed others how the racing should be run. The Lee brothers had a great day winning the Under 23, Under 24 and Over 24. I was delighted my `Ernie` won the Non-Ped Whippet section, 3 years after he last ran there and won ! Had a quick look around the Trade Stands, but was rushing off home to go to Shelbourne Park, which was a shame as I would liked to have spent more time looking around.

The 2nd Annual Master McGrath Challenge
Martin Tucker replied to AlbertJ's topic in Gamefairs, Meet Up's and Events
Hi Albert ! Whose was the suggestion to change the distance at Birr to 200 yards ? Thought the 150 yards was spot on ! Gave the smaller a dogs a chance and made the big dogs have to work ! Made for great finishes at Shanes Castle, even though I came out the wrong side of a `photo` in the opening heat ! You should really `standardise` the distance at all qualifiers. Two ideas for next year that might be worth considering. 1. Run the lure at least 30 yards past the winning line before stopping it. 2. Start from the bottom of the field to avoid that awful dip. Congrats on a wonde -
YAWN !!!!!!!!!!!!!! There are always people like you out there DEEMAC01 who like to comment and try and stir up ill feeling ! Nothing personal ! With a post like that there was always going to be a `reply`! Grow up ! I made it clear after Shanes Castle in 2007 that I ran Ernie in the Under 23` the few times I ran him. In the UK he is a classed as a non-ped WHIPPET and thats why he ran in the Whippet class at Shanes Castle, no mention of KC whippets that day ! It`s people like you that stop people from bothering on these forums. In future i`ll just read and wont comment. 7 p

Yes Deidra ! Good there`s been plenty of rain, it will make the going safer ! Lets just hope it knows when to stop !

I got Ernie as a pup in 2005 and I knew nothing about the shows over here and had got him with the intention of running him in the UK. I had sent him over to someone in 2006 to race, but they only ran him a couple of times and I got him back here and it was then I found out about the shows over here. I ran Ernie for the first time in 2007 at Flourence Court where he was hammered by Miss Torri. It was there I heard about Shanes Castle and went up there. As I considered him a Whippet I entered him in the Whippet section and why wouldn`t I ? He was to run against dogs his size 30lbs and build

I agree whippets to race whippets as the non-peds have a distinct advantage over them ! I`m not questioning that they are not pure blood whippets, but they are `classed` as racing bred `whippets`.

Here is Ernies pedigree for all to see. http://www.k9community.co.uk/cgi-bin/nonped/geneal.pl?op=tree&index=2221&gens=5&db=nonped.dbw Yes a bit of greyhound blood in him, that is why he is a non-pedigree racing whippet ! This type of racing is the main type of whippet racing in the UK. Personally, I think anything over the 35lbs is becoming more greyhound than whippet. Everyone to their own. I`ve had both and the pedigree KC whippet is very inferior speed wise compared to the racing bred whippet of similar size/weight. You are to be commended for starting up a ra

There are THREE types of Whippet in the UK as I see it ! There are the KC Show type whippet and the KC registered racing whippet, the bloodlines that have developed over the last 40 years. When I was a young lad starting off Whippet racing in the UK in the mid 70`s, all the racing dogs were show bred that went racing, but now a KC racing bloodline has developed. Then there is the non-pedigree whippet. I`m not talking the half bred scratch dogs over 35lbs at the lighter end of the scale, i`m talking whippets between 16-30lbs. These are what Bluebell (Paris) and myself (Mountcashel Ernie
