Ireland Shane's Castle 2013
Martin Tucker replied to crazy ferreter's topic in Gamefairs, Meet Up's and Events
I`ll be at the English Derby final at Wimbledon ! Would somebody perhaps invest in a loud speaker, might help to speed things up on the racing side, letting people know what`s happening and also let the people `slipping` know how their dogs got on. I was fortunate to win two finals last year, but hadn`t a clue to the outcome, until I asked someone when I collected my dogs at the bottom ! Good luck to everyone ! -

Well done to all the winners ! Gutted I missed the day ! Embarrassed to say I thought it was on tomorrow !!!! If you hadn`t rang Shane to see where I was, would have been heading down in the morning ! Sorry, there was no trophy for Frankie, will try and get it down to him ! -

It`s on this February 2nd, 3rd & 4th. The first time it`s being run at the weekend, with the final day on the Monday. It will be my 31st year to attend and I wouldn`t miss it for anything ! A three day pass will cost you €60 and you should contact the ICC to get this. However, you can pay on the day. 00353 526172483. It starts every day at 11.30 sharp ! I`ve been lucky that one of my stud dogs Janey Mac Aroo, threw a Derby winner and a Derby and Oaks runner-up over the last few years ! -
At last a couple of sensible replys instead of the usual accusations ! Not enough of either type of non-ped and KC, even though the Sporting Whippet Club are making great efforts to promote and are to be commended. Now a hybrid version is possibly out there ! As regards racing at shows in the Unders and Overs, you need as much Greyhound Blood as possible or you won`t count. However, there is no way of knowing if it`s 99% or 100%, that`s why I prefer the smaller dogs. No point comparing the racing with hunting dogs, they are opposite ability wise.

Okay so Ernie is not a pedigree Whippet, that has always been made perfectly clear from day one. You want him classed as a non-ped, but you fail to mention a non-ped what, greyhound , Whippet, Alsation ?? I`ve always classed him as a Racing Whippet and all those people that have used him know that he was a non-ped, so your claim that the guy was `not impressed` when you rang about the pups is a load of rubbish, but thanks anyway for putting him right ! The problem is your ignorance or your failue to accept that in the UK they are classed as NON-PED WHIPPETS. There is a monthly magazin

Just glad I never went ! Nothing sinister about Ginger Jacks breeding ! Ginger Jack 25`` and 58lbs is by Ningbo Jack mated to the well known Enniscorthy lurcher bitch Ginger, owned by John Carroll. Got given him as a pup for the service which I had given to the lads, who did me a turn and brought and kennelled a bitch for me that was going to Wexford vet Ray Cuddihy to have systs removed from her overies. She had 11 pups and I got Ginger Jack ! Winnie just under 23`` and 44 lbs is by a Wexford dog called Murt owned by Martin Kenny, who was unbeatable for years down that way mate

What happened my two entries from Shanes Castle ? Winnie in the U23 and Ginger Jack in the Overs ! I thought I texted them to you a number of weeks ago ? Came home from Derby final in Shelbourne Park late last night to see they wern`t included ? No point getting up at the crack of dawn and wasn`t going to rock the boat and give people a chance to start a row by turning up ! Good luck to everyone taking part.

Ireland Lawerencetown Show, Cancelled
Martin Tucker replied to dessie m's topic in Gamefairs, Meet Up's and Events
All dogs, when registered with the ICC for stud duties, are required to give a hair sample for DNA purposes, as is a brood bitch when she has her first litter of pups presented for earmarking at 8-10 weeks. I really don`t know how taking a sample from a `suspect` dog will determine if he is full greyhound or not ? To determine parentage, you would need both parents to be DNA. There is nothing to stop breeding two greyhounds together, as they are not registered in the DNA system, calling them Lurchers and there is no way of proving if they are 100% Greyhounds, or in the majority of case -

Here`s another few suggestions : Ensure the equipment is working properly, Ensure the dogs are running across the line at speed and not pulling up because the drag has stopped, therefore a decent distance across the line before it`s stopped. At 150 yards you want a decent pull up ! Try and run it in area without that big dip. Ensure there are no barking dogs in front of the dogs about to be slipped and the spectators kept well back ! Good luck everyone ! -
Yes Albert I received the tickets ! I couldn`t make out the number you left on my phone and your `mail box` is full ! Good luck with Shanes Castle ! Regards, Martin Tucker.

Where is it held ? -
I bought her last November after seeing her win a 32 dog Under-23` stake in Enniscorthy at 14 months. She is by Martin Kennys Murt, who was unbeatable for years at drag and race meets down in Wexford and I believe won the straight racing at Caim 4 years on the trot ! Her dam is Marwood Type, a full bred Coursing bitch, who won a trial stake. She was leased, as she broke too late in the season to be bred to a coursing dog and was bred to Murt. Winnies litter brother was runner up at the same meet in the Overs last November. Winnie is 45 lbs and a ball of muscle. She is just out of seaso

I`m afraid your talking out of your `backside` winner69 ! You shouldn`t really comment on matters you know nothing about ! Talk is cheap and your out of your league ! Just because I have Ernie at stud doesn`t mean I breed Non-peds, lurchers or what ever your ignorance of his breeding thinks he is ! When I breed Ernie to Winnie at the end of the year, you can read about it on here ! I`m afraid all the bickering and arguments about dogs can only damage the sport, if that`s what you want to call it ! The only proper race meets take place in Roscrea and Enniscorthy, the rest i

thank you Kirsty putting for putting the record straight ! people should be careful what they say regarding whose breeding what and flooding the country with mini-greyhounds !!! i`ve never even bred a litter of whippets/lurchers or whatever ! I don`t waste my time or efforts with these micky mouse events ! I will be at Shanes Castle with Winnie (Martin Kennys, Murt x Marwood Type) and Ginger Jack (Ningbo Jack x John Carrolls, Ginger), everyone knows them, seen them run, saw and know the parents and have no problem with them ! Winnie will be bred to Ernie at the end of the year and

I won the racing last year with Ginger Jack and I must admit it`s not held in a great place. The dogs went over a hill after 50 yards and that was all I could see. The hare driver couldn`t see the starter and I hadn`t a clue what had happened until somebody told me he had won ! With an estate that size, surely they could find 250 yards on the flat to run the races ? Come on organisers ! -

Horses for courses ! Depends what your in to ! You can say the same about most hunting dogs. How would they perform from traps over 150 yards ? Lets just enjoy OUR dogs for the pleasure they give to us, be it in the field or behind the drag ! -

In England...... but as flash3241 has correctly pointed out this is not England !......... I believe the Peds run to a 21` limit, so yes I would have to agree this seems to be a solution ! Do I take it then flash3241, that you are prepared to assist those that put on and organise these races at the shows to ensure `fair play` to those taking part ? If so then it`s a step in the right direction. Regarding my `lurcher` Ernie, he is now 7 years of age and despite getting a run behind the drag twice a week on my gallop, he will no longer be taking part in any race meets, so the problem wit -

A lot of you are missing the point ! In the UK there is what is classed as Non-pedigree WHIPPETS. This has been classed as this for up on 50 years and everybody accepts it. We have the monthly magazine the Whippet News with dogs from 16lbs-40lbs classed as racing Whippets. Then you have the heavier Scratch dogs but they still come under the same banner and code of racing and it is accepted. There a few of this type of dog now appearing over here. Ernie possibly could have been one of the first ? The pedigree Whippets have their own organisation and the racing is competive, but you have
