I hand strip every time. Cheap... easy... and ya get a better job done.

Why has she changed the pups food ? A sudden change of food will give a pup the shits. A gradual change in diet should be done over about a 5 or 6 days.

Few Photos Of My Borders Working
Birchdown replied to Coursing mad 24's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
Or perhaps there are a few more good digging borders out there, but none of the owners can be arsed with all the hastle and shit comments that come their way as soon as they mention "BORDERS". Any topic about borders on this site usually ends up with someone slagging off someone else. -
Breeders .....why Get Upset ......?
Birchdown replied to dixiefried's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
There are far too many people wanting something for nothing nowadays . If i have to buy in a terrier i'm quite happy to do so, if that's what needs to be done. If somebody with surplus stock wants to sell off a terrier or two, good luck to 'em. It aint cheap rearing a healthy litter of pups. As long as the breeder plans on keeping a pup to "better" his stock i personaly don't see a problem with moving on pups for a few £££. -
The biggest Vaccine supplier in the UK is Intervet. In all probability it will be their vaccine that will be used when you visit your Vet. Intervet clearly state, and have done for some time. The main vaccines should not be more than once every three years.

Just done my litter at 8, 10 & 12 weeks. By the sound of it, most vets are doing 3 jabs now because of the new strains of lepto that are about.

Cheers mate. Looks like there's some fun times ahead.

He's the second one i've had off Jack and many moons ago i took up a bitch for a mating with Rogue and kept a blue n tan dog pup. I know some don't rate them but Oxcroft certainly have plenty of spirit and they do ok for me. This was my little Oxcroft bitch. Heart of a lion and no reverse gear.
-
Obi2, the bitch i had from my local hunt kennels. They had 4 Borders in service, and well worked. The sire is Oxcroft. Mostly bushing done these days but both parents are up for a charlie or two. I havn't got much in the way of digging done for the last year or so, so like desertdog says they must be flexible or i wouldn't have much to do. If the 2 pups i've kept back are as keen as their parents i'll be well chuffed. I didn't have much of a choice with the pups as only 1 of the bitches survived. The little weedy one only lasted a few hours, she was a blue n tan aswell. Shame but shit happens.

Nice strong looking pups dude. Here's mine which are 3 weeks older. I've kept the blue bitch & my son has got the blue dog. All the best with your little bitch.

How's those pups coming on mate.
-
Stay clear of the shit they sell in pet shops.

I've just done a litter of Border Terrier pups at 2, 5 and 8 weeks with panacur 10%. It's got to be done over 3 days each time and not a worm in sight. It's safe for pups and is much cheaper for 100ml buying it on-line.
-
Same here mate.

Yep... got the idea mate. Looks like it'll do the job. It's for my son who's having one of my pups. They're only 4 weeks old at the mo, so i've got plenty of time to knock one up. I'll have a chat with him next time he pops round & see what he wants. He may want me to get in touch with deakin to see what he can do for me. Looks like he makes some good gear, it just depends on the price of postage. Cheers.

Doh !!! Cheers matey bloke. Didn't see it. Must have my stupid head on today.

Hi, are there any of you terrier lads out there with any info on where to get a single wooden terrier box. Cheers.
-
He's only had a handfull of easy digs last season but should see a bit more action in the coming months. He needs to settle down a bit as he's a tad too hard for his own good.
-
He's grandsire to my 3 year old dog too. JP still works his Borders.

When all's said and done, what you pay for is the wealth of knowlege and carefull breeding by the well known Terriermen who know what they're talking about. If ya want a pup for f**k all you'll have to make do with what ever mutt is about. If ya want something decent do what booby blackheart say's. Give up something, sell something, you'll get what you want sooner or later. Me thinks there's far too many people about nowadays expecting top dollar stuff and not willing to make any sacrifices to pay for it.

Owning Borders i hear all this shit about how many £s a pup should cost over and over again. Yes, the price of pups has gone f****n' stupid but so has the cost of everything else. 500 quid for a pup is a bit steep if you've got to pay for one, but i'll make the sacrifices to be able to buy one in if i need too. You can't expect to be gifted a pup from someone who's spent a lifetime of hard work & cash breeding a line of good workers. Traveling the country looking for the right sire/dam don't come cheap. Nor does the rearing of a litter. I totaly agree with Wxm's last reply. Well said mate
