  1. No bother, humour doesn't always translate well with this typing lark! Atb.
  2. No one hear likes to hear of ferts deliberately coming to harm. Hunting has a very poor view already, best not to make it worse. Just be glad your not the ferret you've taken a dislike to eh?
  3. Sorry d.nelson, do you mean you'll wait until you want rid of a fert, then use it for ratting as if it gets injured you'll not be bothered?
  4. Really think it depends on a lot more factors than the sex of the fert. Not impressed by these, but make what you want of them... Very different from ferret coming across rat in natural environment, but gives an idea of what goes on. Mind you, no idea how long captured rats exposed to weather or gone without food/water, so a well fed/watered rat down a bury could be a different story. Atb.
  5. Suppose it was modern once upon a time! Vaccines can be 'live' or 'killed' nowadays. I can't make any sense that feeding rats has restorative value, if it had any effect it would likely be negative, particularly initially, in relation to a healing process. As with any vaccine administration, care should be taken to ensure the patient is healthy as the vaccine temporarily weakens the immune system, therefore if the immune system is compromised feeding infected rats would reduce the rate of wound healing compared to a ferret that has not been compromised. There are intra-muscular and ora
  6. Great pics. Mine go mad for a play in the snow too. Makes me laugh when the girls start trying to make an Igloo
  7. Did these books say how and/or why it helps a ferts immune system? Probably the reasoning behind that is exposure to disease (and, hopefully, subsequent survival) permits a resistance to the same disease if re-infected, basically how vaccines work. However vaccines are completely different to consuming rats that may be diseased. Old wifes tale imo, safer to feed healthy, disease/infection free meat. Wouldn't deliberately put ferts near a rat, not worth the risk and why deprive the terriers of their fun. Atb.
  8. If he is more of a hinderance than help, don't work him. Not at all a fan of muzzles either. Hybrids are no-where near as efficient as ferrets. Atb.
  9. Or you could saw hortizontially 3ft high across from the bottom of the shed door and stick a bolt on for the bottom section. Atb.
  10. Thought of it gives me the heebeejeebees.... but good luck. Atb.
  11. Mine have a nest box on their coop. I line the bottom of shavings, then an old bathmat on top of shavings to help stop moisture getting through, then some shredded paper, some fleece blankets/old pillowcases/jumpers etc, then pile hay on top. Then the jills make a nest and the hobs pile in after they've done the hard work.
  12. Thank feck i wasnt wearing me leather gimp mask and harness hahaaha. She getting on good with the hob...no bickering between them and hes so bleedn g soft im surprised how good he is in a set....certainly bolts them. I'll leave her off working i think till i get her done and let her have her horomone explosions the bite she gave me earlier wasnt a nip if iwasnt so bloody quick and she didnt cop onto my knuckle i'd say it would have been a proper lock on to my finger.......and i know how bloody painful that is from past experience with a mates stinker. Ah bless her.....her hormones m
  13. I doubt she'll show much consistency in behaviour right now if her hormones are off the scale. Out of curiosity how does she treat your hob at present? Personally, I'd try to handle her as normal, ignore the nips, seems like she's just full of cheek rather than nastiness. If they mean it, ferts will lock on to whatever they can get there teeth around, if they don't get a good grip they'll take whatever they've got and go for a better grip. Not a fan of scruffing myself for a punishment/corrective approach, find it tends to piss them off, she isn't a kit anymore! I find hormonal females don
  14. Women.... Maybe it is just the hormones kicking in! Defo right getting her into vets asap before she gets a real fetish going on. Poor wee thing doesn't know whats hit her, some react more strongly to a 1st season than others. Can't have you splashing out on more leather, you'll only encourage her Atb.
  15. Not sure where to start here..... Spray treatments only work when the trigger is pulled, would be a serious human error... only.... if the person applying it can't count. The active ingredient of One Spot is Methoprene which does not kill adult insects but is a growth regulator that breaks life cycle. One Spot is for flea treatment. Ticks are not insects but arachnids and are unresponsive to Methoprene, so One Spot is ineffective in treating ticks. Pipette treatments are only effective against a targeted species if the correct dosage is applied according to host species and the
  16. Being plied with boiling water tends to piss off most things really..... Doubt the fert would be grateful for full thickness burns either... Problem with ticks is that just before they drop off, or if they are stressed, i.e, by having boiling water, nail polish, vaseline applied to the or even being poked, they regurgitate part of their stomach contents and saliva into the hosts blood stream. This becomes a major issue if the tick is carrying blood borne diseases. Visible ticks need to be physically removed asap with the appropriate tools. Atb.
  17. Prescription Frontline (feline version) from vets. Ask for a some latex gloves too (provided you aren't allergic to latex), 2-3 sprays of Frontline on fert and rub in over body. However this works best if you already have it when ticks appear, best thing really is to get the little nasties off asap for health reasons, plus when they've had their fill they will just drop off in ferts environment only to re-appear again when they need another snack! If you don't have a tick remover you could use a pair of good tweezers. If you haven't got Ferrets Formula, stick some sunflower/veg oil on ferts be
  18. Again, I can't see where kids were blamed for the dead ferrets. One thing is for sure though, certainly seems like the work of some sicko.
  19. I can't find it anywhere that anyone suggested kids were responsible for the dead ferrets found.....
  20. Good on you. Poor wee thing, but at least it left its mark.
  21. It seemed like they'd been choked. As you've both said there are the daft folk that dump their ferts as well. It's funny how some people believe they'll be alright fending for themselves, some people still even think ferts are actually wild animals
  22. Was out for a ponder with the dog to waste some time when needed and found 3 dead ferts.... They were piled in a heap. By their teeth they looked young enough and their body condition seemed pretty ok too. All had neck/throat trauma, but no obvious fractures. Ferts found on farmland with tracks for public access. I might be jumping to conclusions here, but there are some sick folk in the world.
  23. I have 2 of mine implanted. Probably a benchmark price would be around £ per implant including a touch of sedation for them. Atb.
  24. Sorry, missed the part about you getting all the lads done Badger for a discount if getting them all done at once and if youngsters need op to remove undescended balls ask for the superficial incision wound to be glued so they don't pull at the sutures, as ferts can be right pests for that. Yes, I suppose you could call it a 'chemical' castration, the implant is a hormone regulator which will reduce testosterone levels to a 'neutered' level. It can take up to 14 days to kick in, can last 1-2 years on average, however after the implant it can take up to 3 years before a hob can become
  25. Unless there are obvious signs of parasites or red/scaly skin the hair loss is most likely hormonal, and could be a symptom of Adrenal Disease. Depends on how much further you want to take it with her but there is an implant that tends to really help with this. It is in no way normal to have a bald ferret at any stage of the year. Wish you the best with whatever descision you make with her. Atb.
