  1. Quite right, heat and ferrets don't mix well. I fill some empty coke bottles with water and freeze them, stick them in with the ferrets bedding to help keep them cool. Also make 'milk cubes' or freeze some cubes of mince to help keep them occupied and cool during the hot hours. Thanks for reminding us all!
  2. Maybe he didn't do his job well enough, are there any other 'snipped' hobs available in your area? Might be worth trying a different male? Best of luck.
  3. Stoats and weasels are part of the Mustelidae family, as are otters/badgers/martens/polecats/minks & black footed ferrets and of course our domesticated ferrets, even mongoose and meercats are related. (other species may also be included!) Point is, the dietary requirements of each species (although related) may be different. Many professionals agree that 'raw meat' diets for ferrets need supplementation. Considering the ferrets you have in your ownership now are 'domesticated' ferrets, in the sense that ferrets have been domesticated for around 2000 years now, they do not have a 'natu

  9. Due to a very high metabolism, ferrets should have access to food and water 24/7. In one end and out the other in 3-4 hrs. Therefore every 3-4 hours they need to eat and drink, no way round that. Good quality dried ferret food should always be available. (I use a mix of Vitalin and Beaphar Care+). With regards to meat, give them what they will eat within 8 an hour period during the summer, (dusk til dawn to keep the flies off), if they don't eat all the meat, give them less, all gone, give a bit more. Winter months, as much as they will take. How old is the hob? They can be chubby as
  10. Whiskers bit not as bad as I made out! Still felt bad about it though! But.....as they say someone who can't admit they made a mistake is either a fool or a liar! Well, I'm very happy with ferrets formula. I think it's unfair to call it a scam, a scam is either being mislead or paying for something you don't get. That's just not true IMO, it 'does what it says on the tin'. I don't like being belittled over choices I make to treat my ferrets, same as if I was critised for buying them guttering to run through or making 'meat' icecubes to help keep them cool in summer. My ferrets are well
  11. They are well-handled, last time I ran out of ferretone, I trimmed the nails without anything and they sat still fine. Only after I'd finished I realised I'd trimmed off half their whiskers as well! I prefer a distraction to keep unwanted bits out of the way. Plus I trim claws every month or so and I don't have time to phaff about so the ferrets formula does me fine.
  12. Parasites- Trinchina (roundworm), Cestoda (tapeworm), Dirofilaria immitis (heartworm) are some of the roundworm/threadworms & flatworms that can infect ferrets. Also Lungworms, Giardia Lamblia, Cyrptosporodium parvum & Coccidiosis are other internal parasites that can cause problems. Causes - contact with infected animal faeces, contaminated/stagnant water, raw contaminated meat and external parasites such as fleas, ticks, & mosquitos. (Tick borne infections include Lymes & Weils disease, Encephalitis/Ehrlicha & Anaplasma) Symptoms - Can include one of more of these
  13. I meant to reply to the guy that started the thread.....sorry!
  14. Well, looking at the feedback its got on Ebay, I'd say those you've actually tried it are very happy. That's good enough for me, not like it costs a fortune...! Its a fraction of the price of Ferretone....! When joint supplements/electrolytes for horses first came out, many people scoffed too. Now they are used religiously by the worlds top riders! Point is, bit hasty to knock something you've never tried or even heard of before...... Its not being sold as a diet supplement so whats the issue with people going on about their ferrets health? And, I'd rather give my ferrets something
  15. Oh, so you've tried it then? It's no magic forumla, the ingredients are on the bottles, if your dying to give it to them, nip down asda and you'll be able to make up litres for f**k all. I doubt that, besides, I couldn't be bothered to mess up my kitchen without any clue about what each of the oils do and how much to use.
  16. The larvae that can be transmitted from pork products are those of species of roundworm (Trichina worm). However, hoping that the pigs have been adequately cared for before entering the foodchain i.e hygenic farm management, the risk of them having a worm burden is greatly reduced. In most cases, freezing the meat will inactive the worm larvae. If you are worried, just cook it thoroughly before feeding it to them. Always best to use pork that hasn't been reformed/processed. These types of pork products carry a very high salt content. As far as I can recall, salt can cause cardiac problems
