Allergy, infection, virus? Could be many things. Maybe it's a cold/flu virus, usually these are picked up when the secondary infections set in. Hopefully some anti-biotics will sort it out, but always worth taking unusual symptoms to a vet, as is being done. Hope they recover soon. Atb.

Has anyone got any photos on correctly set stop nets

Off subject Seany, but the avatar pic is very impressive! Where did you get it from, or did you do it? -
Wound powder is used for stopping bleeding, cornflower will do the same job and dry the wound. If the wound is a bit wet, as long as it doesn't have any unusual coloured/smelling pus then Sudocream should sort it out fairly quick, and put the other ferts off biting him. Virkon should do the job for the hutches, it is good stuff.

Maybe your hob is the tasty one for ticks, same as mosquitos prefer some people more than others?! Hope you get shot of the ticks. Atb.

Whats peoples thoughts on unmated jills.

A competent vet would not believe you, fact. The only time you are wasting is your jills time. Your opinion is hearsay and means nothing compared to documented fact. Unless you can give hard evidence other than 'in my experience' regarding oestrogen toxicity, then you are waffling. My patience with you on this matter is spent. -

Yes, the results would conclusively show that a jill left in season has ill effects on her health. With any illness, disease or condition, certain abnormalites and/or clinical signs are presented, these are then confirmed via the relevant methods, and the appropriate treatment given at that time. The extent of test/examination findings of a jill left in season would depend on how long she has been left in that state. The blood sample analysis of a jill left in season would highlight corresponding abnormal cell counts, thus confirming clinical symptoms and the condition presented. The cell coun -
If she is a kit and when playing about uses you as a target, it's nothing personal! It's just a game to her, chasing your hand. I have the same problem myself. If she is good in every other way, apart from when she is full of energy, she should grow out of it, very soon. Some kits are just more boisterous than others. Just keep going and she will be grand. Atb. Edited to say, the less you react to her biting, the quicker she might be bored of doing it.

Out of season is of no use apart from a 'control' blood sample. why no use , the ferret is still alive ,ahh right out of season low levels in blood = ferret survived in season high levels ferret at risk lol i think we all know that by now even before you came on banging your drum , give it a rest ffs You are too thick to explain it to, otherwise you wouldn't have asked the question. -

Would be impossible to say. This might fit the description and explain why different ferrets died at different times? Maybe the ones that died a few months ago had heatstroke? It causes drooling and collapse. Aleutian Disease If he still has the dead ferts, might be worth having a post-mortem done on one, 6 ferrets is alot to lose in a few months. Hope he finds out what's killing them. Atb. -

Out of season is of no use apart from a 'control' blood sample. OK another one of your theories their blood count is only affected while they're in season and returns to normal levels miracuriously as soon as they come out of season in their own time Y.I.S Leeview Cell counts can be affected by many other things, at any time of year. As the jills are no longer in season then obviously oestrogen levels will have decreased and/or factors associated with oestrogen toxicity. So the cell count would now be random instead of conclusively being associated with oestrogen issues and not d -

Great news she's recovering well. Tbh very glad the doors are badly made! If she's moving about fine and seems her normal self, then hopefully she will be just grand.

Very simple, you stated leaving jills in season has no ill effects, I stated if that is true, would you have you jills tested to prove your opinion right, you agreed, I stated that if you are right, I'd pay. As you are so convinced you would be right, then why would you have to pay a penny? Seems you have no conviction behind your theory.... Ultimately you have been asked to prove you are right, and you won't back it up, just bitch about money. All talk and no trousers... If you are prepared to justify your opinions, then pm me, as I requested before. Will not pm you, keep it here for all -
How's the jill? Just a thought, if you haven't had her looked at yet, give your vets a ring and tell them what's happened, just let them know you don't want to pay weekend prices if it can wait til Mon, see what they say. Vets won't want to miss their Sunday dinner to look at a ferrets foot if they think it can wait til tomorrow. Atb

It's always floating about, but more outbreaks noted, recently in the North East. Keep a watch on your horses, if new horses have been purchased or transported nearby or if you go to shows/events.

By constantly, I meant that the swelling remains the same (size, location, 'texture'), whether she's up and about or sleeping. But swelling does mean an injury has happened, there are different types of swellings which can mean different things. It sounds like she had a tough time and her foot, at least, has suffered some damage. Should be checked out for peace of mind and for her sake, so it can be seen and assessed properly. If I was in your situation, I would do what you have done, have a look and feel and see what shows up. The fact she doesn't show a pain response isn't great, but swellin

Glad she seems to be getting better. The foot became swollen after time, because the swelling didn't have the room to do it's job when the foot was trapped in the door, as in, the swelling hadn't the room to squeeze in! Swelling is a defensive reaction, it 'cushions' injury. If she is getting more mobile, and the swelling reduces more and more when she walks about, then that's a good thing. It might be much more swollen again after she sleeps, but if the swelling goes down after she's up and about, that's a good sign. If the swelling remains constantly, then defo an injury has happened which n

If any toes are broken/dislocated the swelling might hide that. She must have struggled quite a bit to free herself, so damage elsewhere is also possible, she might be in a bit of shock as well. The fact that there is swelling shows there has been injury on some level and it's not great that she doesn't react to you touching it. Does the swelling make a noise like rustling tissue paper when you touch it or when she walks around? Defo worth getting checked out asap, even if she just gets some drugs for pain relief.

As long as they aren't injuring each other, then biting the scruff is just how they sort out who's boss, it just looks and sounds (and can smell!) bad. But if blood is drawn your going to have to stick your hands in and separate them.

Sorry, just checked the thread, so late reply! Thanks for the compliment, much appreciated. I hope to event him, but I suppose I'll have to see where his talents lie, if he has any...!

As long as there isn't any real harm done, they they will sort the pecking order out and settle down, might take a while, but it should settle down.
