Just to set the record straight,I am far from a beginner in fact the .22lr that I use I bought 20+ yrs ago and it has had.....well I don't know how many rounds through it,it must be hundreds of thousands but the rabbits that are around here and trust me there aren't that many places with big numbers and where they are I need to shoot them at well over 100yds.I often headshoot them with the .243 and I am a registered food business and they all get sold.If on the other hand anyone that is relatively near to me I will buy clean rabbits off them.I have actually just got a NV scope the same as Ian

Ian have you ever weighed a box individually to see if there is a difference? Might be worth a try,I know you cant do that to every box but it would be interesting mate, and how are you getting on with the DP,is it a 5x or a 10x(5x with a doubler) Martin

Is there anyone out there that is using their 17hmr solely on rabbits, and as I am a registered food outlet I need them to be usable.I am pretty sure that as long as headshots are used it should be ok as I used to have a 204 that I headshot rabbits well over 200yds with that although headless were still usable.

Having slaughtered hundreds of thousands of pigs over the years I do feel that I am qualified to answer this question. If pigs are allowed to get stressed it can cause all sorts of problems such as P.S.E. and blood splash. P.S.E. is where the stress makes the pig use up the glycogen in the blood going round the body, and when that has all gone then it uses up the glycogen from the liver and then the main muscles ie. the Hams and Loins and what happens to the meat has to be seen to be believed as it goes almost white and as hard as hell,it would be impossible to cook and eat. P.S.E. stands for

The Biggest Mistake Youv Made When Stalking
martin replied to nastybilly's topic in Deer Stalking & Management
Here's one of mine, not stalking but lamping with Dropper and slipped sideways on some mud only to almost knock myself out and break a rib......... Oh and just so you realise how fecked Dropper was here is the pic of him at the top of the farm......just another 500yds to go mate.............lol And here's the two Bucks....worth all the sweat eh Dropper? -
+1 for Dropper,a lot is spoken about cull figures for Roe in/on open countryside, but it is a load of tosh and to quantify this, can you remember seeing a great Buck on your land only to leave it to pass on it's seed and to take it out at a later date and never see the same Deer again, well, that is because it has moved away .....simples.

I shoot every Buck I see.......simples!

He was dappled with white flecks too...... -
I have put this on here because I don't use any other part of the forum any more, well I had a lad drop me round some Rabbits a week or so ago,and we got chatting and I said he ought to come out for a shine round locally especially as I just haven't had the time lately.A time and date was made and right on the dot Matt tapped the door, but I had a stalker round dropping off a couple of Roe,and he was telling me about a car going round locally poaching, they are stopping in a gateway and if there is a Deer there then shooting the Deer, cutting the gate off and driving across whatever there is in th

Not Stalking But I Only Read This Area Now,so...............
martin replied to martin's topic in Deer Stalking & Management
Hi Steve,I picked the dog up earlier from the vets and she is obviously well bruised but doing ok. I took Mother to the Police Station to make a statement and tell them that I wanted the dog destroyed so it will now go to court, the bill so far is £487.50 and will go up a bit more but the owner(she)will pay up so she says.....we will see. Here she is......... And here is Mothers clothes that she wore at the time...... Martin -

My Whippet was on her lead but the Staffy wasn't and it shook her all round the place, and a neighbour of the owner came over and beat the dog with Mums stick to get it off and then the owner came over and took the dog away. -
My 87 yr old Mother was out with my Whippet today and a f***ing Staffy's ripped into her from behind and tore a great big hole in her shoulder putting a tooth through her blade bone(scapula)and may be into the lung, she is taking an inordinate amount of time to come round from the anaesthetic and they are worried about a pneumothorax I have to take Mum down to the Police station Sunday afternoon to make a statement,I am f***ing livid and am going to push for the dog to be put down.My Mother was covered in blood when I got there and she had been pushed through the hedge backwards by the dog when

that's not in a Game Dealers though is it Ken? I pay £1.20 lb all year round so it saves the ups and downs that some dealers play about with. Martin
-
it was a nice Buck but the bullet entered through the last rib and exited the shoulder shoulda gone to spec savers......lol Big boy though Haunches went 7.5lb each with a good covering of fat,he was definitely king of the hill. Martin

My second .243 is a Remmy and I have shot an awful lot of Deer ad Foxes with it,they are very good rifles straight out of the box,and I am soonb going to be putting NV on it for a dedicated Foxing set up. Martin

Have you tried all of the stock bolts, and if it is a wood stock then is the barrel still floating, test it with a bit of paper run up around the barrel to see if it runs right up to the action Good luck......Martin
