  1. Bingo! I wondered when someone else'd point that out. I didn't want to be the one to post that because i've already rattled the cage, stating Kuttas are nothing more than status symbols as their best use (fighting other dogs) can't be done legally here.
  2. I saw a red/brown beast stalking the sheep at my mrs' parents old place in S.Wales a few years ago. Was amazing to watch it from the other side of the valley with binoculars: It was pressed close down to the ground, creeping toward them like a tabby stalking a bird. It got close enough to the flock for us to see it was the same height as the sheep but a good half a length longer. Anyway, it skulked off when a farmer came into the next field on a quad. Must have been scared off by the noise. Shortly after, a neighbour saw one with 2 kits walking in the woods (so overgrown that you couldn't
  3. If you train them right then they'll be good workers, simple. yes they will be trained right Its all about the training. My pal has a yorkie and norfolk terrier and puts them down a warren like ferrets. Its in all dogs somewhere, just takes longer to find and train in some than in others due to their history (ie kc and showponies etc). good luck with the crosses

  5. A couple of weeks ago, my father-in-law killed the fox that had decapitated all but one of his fowl. He has cut off the brush because he wants to turn it into oversized keyring (each to their own !?!). He asked me how he could cure/preserve it before he does so, as it smells already. I don't have a clue and wonder if anyone else does.....
  6. dog aggression is completely different to human aggression, thats plain to see in a lot of dogs not just fighting dogs. your reply will probably just piss me off so i wont re-open this thread. I have some experience working with dangerous wild animals. Breeding out aggression to humans in any species is absolute rubbish. Captive breeding does reduce it but from the 1st animal born in captivity to the millionth there is no difference. The difference comes from humans learning more successful training techniques for the species the longer it's kept in captivity. Well, having st
  7. ?!? You've missed my point: My post states why THEY did what they did. Not whether i agree or disagree. I was empathising with their point of view, not sympathising with it.
  8. why have a saluki x or bull x? we can only hunt rabbits and rats. Because lines of Salukis or bulls (or crosses) are sufficiently removed (in terms of time and breeding) from their original purpose (hunting big game and fighting) to be trainable for other quarry and no serious risk to humans. Eg. Dachshunds were bred for killing badgers, British bulldogs were bred for fighting bulls, Rotties and dobermans were used to hunt (in boarded-up town squares) convicted criminals in the Germany, Mastiffs/molossus types were bred as war dogs to attack infantry (!) a couple of thousand yea

  10. I'm sure i'll tread on someone's toes but here goes... I can't understand why anyone'd in the UK'd want one of those Kuttas (or Pit bulls, Tozas, Dogos, Filas etc). They are only good for fighting or hunting big game like deer or pigs. Now (as we all know) we aren't allowed to do any of that anymore in the UK. What's the point of having one over here, if you can't legally use/work them? I thought this site was for working dogs.... not status symbols....
  11. I sure do. Don't pick them until late September/October when they are juicy. The flowers that you don't use for elderflower wine turn into the berries you need for Elderberry wine. Elderberry wine - Makes 1 demijohn (5-6 bottles) saucepan - 2 and 1/2 lb berries, 1 pints water. simmer 20m. strain through sieve into demijohn. saucepan2 - 2 and 1/2 lb sugar, 2 pints water, stir regularly for 20m, til dissolved. pour into demijohn. Top up the dj with water. Cool to room temp. Add yeast and airlock. Ferment till bubbles stop (anytime from 1-6w). Siphon into bottles. Leave for 12m for
  12. I'm on the other side of the country to you mate but i hope someone near you helps you out. The sport needs as many of us as possible and its better to be helped than ignored. Good luck.
  13. So do you eat them? or sell them to a butcher? there must be plenty of meat on those beasts
  14. I like to do a bit of birdwatching myself
  15. Here you go mate. Mind you, the flowers aren't out yet, they'll be out in a few weeks probably but you don't pick them until they turn from white to yellowish. They are usually yellowish in mid May. Elderflower wine - makes 1 demijohn (about 5-6 bottles) In a giant saucepan - 2 lbs sugar, 6 pints water, juice of 2 lemons, bring to the boil and dissolve sugar. Add 20-30 elderflowerheads and 1 tbsp wwvinegar. Simmer 20m. Leave to cool until room temp. Pour into demi john. Add 1/2 tsp yeast and add the airlock. Leave to ferment until bubbles stop (anytime from 1-6w). Bottle using
  16. the babies are the best ones - nice hot pan and knob of butter, tender as the morn
  17. why a border mate? they might be a bit flighty at that age if you aren't the one who reared them.
  18. Yeah 'luck' is exactly what i do need, by the look of it.
  19. i want one of them f**k me! smuggle a few of them over here, i know of an abandoned sett...
  20. Well have a look at the 'auld firm' thread for a laugh to cheer you up. Apparently there are two football teams in Scotland. I think one is called Glasgow and the other is called Queens Park Rangers.
