ANYBODY who thinks whippets are frail need look no further than the top pic on this post................ perfect example of his breed.............RIP jip...........real shame that mate............. He was a sturdy little fecker

Thanks guys and yes troter, the pup is half whippet anyhow so I'm sure it'll show through but he was a fantastic role model nevertheless

Thanks for the comments guys. It's going to take a bit of getting used to I think even though it's a big relief for all concerned. Thanks LPD, I hope that your all good now. It's a nasty, nasty disease. It hasn't put me off at all mate. I have a 16 month old beddy whip grey who's coming on leaps and bounds and my mate has a 5 month old collie whip grey so we have enough to be keeping ourselves busy for the next season or so but you can never say never. These things happen in life I suppose. At least I can hand-on-heart say that there was no unnecessary suffering. To me that's the big

That's all folks. Thanks for looking and for any comment Sam

Just wanted to put a little thread up for our 3 yr old whippet, Jip who sadly had to be pts tonight due to a brain tumour. I'd rather not go into detail about it as he's better off remembered for the good bits. I owe this dog a lot as if it wasn't for the missus convincing me to get him, neither me nor a mate would have ever got involved in lurchers and lamping with lurchers if it wasn't for the times that we had out with him. He always gave his all whilst out. When he ran, my heart was always in my mouth but he always got away with it. come his second season, just gone, he showed his

I'm sorry mate. I don't usually get involved in petty stuff on here but you can't say that all lamping lads wipe out their quarry. Maybe that's the case where you are but not everywhere. This is coming from a guy who cut his season short by a month or so and stopped going out at the beginning of Feb because Ihe had one pregnant rabbit I think you call that respect for quarry mate. I could have carried on like some would ATB Sam well done pal ,genuinely two seasons ago i stopped in the first week of feb as the dogs were doing there jobs easier . when they are off they are o

no mate , unfortunately. as for pest control ts , its more pest management , always better than total extermination. Too true mate. I totally understand that and totally agree. That is the same for all quarry but that isn't what this is about. It's about guys saying that there was an unwritten rule to say that hare shouldn't have been lamped, just left for the daytime guys. Crap running dogs effect the future actions of rabbits that get away. They also effected the future actions of fox, deer and hare (pre ban) that used to get away. We have all lamped lampshy rabbits that some muppet

I'm sorry but I don't get this. Farmers haven't changed much have they?? If a farmer had a hare problem and you said "Oh I'm sorry but I don't have good daytime dogs, just lampers. They'd catch a hare on the lamp but I don't like lamping hares so I can't sort them, out for you", then surely to god your permission would be lost?? Am I missing something? Isn't this the reason that anti's have such a problem with certain field sports? By this I mean that some people are simply looking to test their dogs as opposed to providing a pest control service, feeding ourselves and our animals? Don

bumped and signed. If we can't stick together then there's no hope! Sam

Indeed it is mate! I''d be interested to see how it turns out! Sam

Well the ones that we sell are bought in large quantities as raw skins from the pet food industry and tanned here. We mainly sell the knives, tools etc. that are on the www.sportingcutlery.co.uk site but the skins are a good addition. As you say, a lot of guys buy them for dog training dummies and then women and kids love them because they're fluffy Other things our customers have used them for are things like boot linings, sewn into the inside of jackets to make jacket linings, hats, gun slip linings and loads more! You name it, someone else has already thought of it ATB Sam

It was the missus' idea but muggins here got the job! We do about 30 game and country fairs through the year and we've had all sorts of people buying them for all sorts of reasons. We had one woman who bought 50 odd skins to make a throw. She insisted on laying them out behind the stand to pick out the similar colours. Took a while . You'd be surprised how many people at game fairs are disgusted that we sell rabbit skins though. Don't think about the leather belt that's holding up their trousers or the leather boots they're walking around in for some reason

Hi Rob, If you've used the tanning kit you will already know that it's not just alum. Yes, alum will work but someone with little or no experience in tanning will not get as good a results with just alum. There is a part A and part B to this kit plus full step by step instructions on the best way to use it. It's been used in tanning by Snowdonia Taxidermy Studios for about 20 years but has only been made available to the general public in the last 10 or so years. There is absolutely nothing wrong with tanning with alum - we sell it at £5.95 per kg (http://www.snowdoniasupplies.co.u

I've made a few cushion covers out of them but I'm no expert mate. If you need anything have a look at these sites bud; http://www.snowdoniasupplies.co.uk/cgi-bin/catalogue.pl?ref=tanningkits http://sportingcutlery.co.uk/tanning-kits/rabbit-skins.html Or PM me ATB Sam

Fieldfare Challange 8 Dog Coursing Stake.
Terrier Sam replied to sowhat's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Fair play Geoff - in regards to all 3 clips and that Zak had amazing speed! One thing though. I don't know if you can or not but I'd try and change the title of the uncut field fare challenge clip to say that it's uncut otherwise they both have exactly the same name on youtube and people that haven't read this thread won't know if there's a difference or not. That's just me being picky an slightly OCD though ATB Sam -
Like the look of the two bitches mate! What height are they and what was the sire to the daughter?

I would never, ever, ever have a dog from an adult again going by my experiences - not just from me but from mates as well. If you get an adult dog at 1-2 year old (as I did with one of mine) and it has issues that you would have ironed out had you had the dog from a pup then you have another 10 or so years to put up with those issues. Mind due, I am quite particular on how a dog should behave - what it should and shouldn't do. IMO, no one will bring a dog up in the same way that you would so why put up with that just to save a year of training? You get a more satisfied feeling when you ca -
In fairness mate, that's no different to any dog, I don't know why anyone would leave dogs and kids together unsupervised. Any dog can snap bud
