Got 2 hobs (males) and if try put them together they just fight especially if breeding season so best off keeping them apart i reckon, as for indoors you can litter train them but they still stink and leave a musk on anything they touch like the sofa and to be honest so long as youve got blankets or some insulation in the hut they are meant to live outdoors its more natural just make sure they have shelter as they overheat easily. ive known people to keep jills together so long as their brought up together from the same litter but you have the problem of either getting them injected once a yea

Hutch sounds fine so long as have access to the run or are let out for atleast few hours a day, collars definately good investment and make sure ya get a strong but light shovel, use a bulldog garden border shovel myself can carry it all day and great for diggin in confined areas. nets can either buy them or make them if you make them stick to spun poly, hold knots better and tangle far less than the cheap nylon nets. wouldnt bother with books better off just getting yourself out and learn from experience, net holes as quiet as can and preferrably down wind give the set a few mins to settl

I use a heavy ceramic bowl and have yet found it to freeze over but does need changing twice a day as bedding tends to end up in it, wouldnt worry bout ferrets tipping them over mine have learnt to avoid stepping on it

making my own longnet ( advice please ) square mesh ore like a purse net ?

Purse nets are square mesh? -
Just let it nip, mines 13 month old now and still does it, even upto 2 year its just there way of playing. Anything more than a nip give them a flick on the nose (not braindamage) they sharp learn. overall though dont be nervous around them, if you want to pick them up then pick them up dont mess about with gloves it only makes them think your skin is thicker than it is and will end up making it bite harder. diet wise the lads are spot on, out you can get while out, rabbit or birds if ya into shooting sling them in bones fur the lot all good stuff. odd egg although can cause fur loss if too r

Use a large hob myself but guaranteed 1 out of 3 will be a dig. On the plus side if theres anything there it will get it but if you dont like digging then stay well away from them. Small jills will bolt if they can but find sometimes get given the run around.

Just get british army issue, take ya a week or two of blisters to break in but once thats out the way they last atleast 2 years and if kept polished up wont get any water through them. Strong boot, warm, waterproof and plenty of grip. Job Done.

lesson for thoughs who dont use a locator
Jingo replied to fieldsportsman's topic in Ferrets & Ferreting
couldn't agree more, small set last week only around 8 holes, ferret didn't surface for well over an hour so decided to check with locator. It was around 10 feet away on the other side of a hedge, gave it another half hour still didnt move so finally gave in and decided to dig it out, def wouldn't of found it without a collar. -
any certificates to prove their genuine?
-
New ferret box for me, think ya started es off though mate gonna get some more nets knocked up for next time we out.
-
first time ive ever heard of ferrets needing implants after spaying
-
done same as neil cost ya about 20 - 25 from agouti but made my first from cheap cotton parcel string for pound shop but once ya can do the knot its just repitition so i wouldnt worry too much. took me around an hour each to make my first few but once got hang of it your flying but dont rush too much as youve got to keep tension on it at all times or you end up with knots slipping

Is the bad Publicity the Mark3 Recieves Valid?
Jingo replied to Country Joe's topic in Ferrets & Ferreting
Same as jamie bought one for last season and had no problems at all, i think if you start off with the mark3 youll be fine but if your used to the old knocker boxes then the flashy lights and pitch changes of the mark3 take bit getting used to but its nowhere near as difficult as people make out, higher the pitch closer you are. got it with the mark3m collar and yes make sure you have turned it on with the magnet. never had any problems myself and if ever i did deben have a good reputation as regards to replacements and repairs. -
well ive got 2 hobs and i always keep them separate but one was 2 year old before i got the other. some reckon if their brought up together their ok others say never leave them together so theirs only 1 way to find out, try holding one and putting the other on the floor and see what they do if put near each other. guess their just like people all have different natures as for mine they'd fight any chance they get

my ferrets always struggle if cut their nails never known any to sit still unless use ferretone or some on their stomach to keep them busy, just get a grip of them so they know they aint going anywhere and sooner or later they get the message. just be careful in case they jump as ya cut the nail or might end up taking too much off. as far as i know any raw meat is fine apart from pork and for a pen i just use a few spars to make a skeleton frame wrapped in chicken wire just make sure ya check it every now and then as ive known them to pull at the wire till it snaps

sounds like could be ear mites just keep an eye on it and see if its rubbing its head, this would explain the hair loss but then again could be just dirt. as Jamie said though nothing to worry about just get some drops.

same here used one of them folding army jobs with triangle handle and snapped it just before the screw thread. went to an auction the next day and managed to get a brand new bulldog border spade for £3 and never looked back plus a full length shovel/spade can get more leverage saves ya back if digging for ages or near tree roots.
