  1. Hi Mate, yes they should drop in and feed, especially if it's the first crop to be cut in the area. If the Farmer has his combine set up well there won't be much spilt grain for them to mop up so you'll have to keep an eye out and be quick. Are there any patches of un cut corn that are flattened? pigeons usually make a bit of a bee line for these as it's easy pickings with the corn ears at beak level. Keep watching and they should eventually give the game away as to where they are feeding! ATB Andy
  2. Mate its not even been a month yet! You have at least another month or so to wait, at least. Mine took just under 3 months. The waiting is a pain and it does seem to take forever but its worth it when you get it. Patience As this- try and be patient, it is difficult, but if you can, forget about it or the time will go mega slowly! By all means phone the licensing department to check progress but don't hassle them to death about it. I've just received mine in the last few days and it took almost 4 moths to the day In the grand scheme of things 4 months wait isn't all t
  3. Just had a call from the Mrs- postman just been and my firearms cert has landed on the mat! Chuffed to bits after a 4 month wait and a temporary permit for the shot guns- although sods law states that there will probably be errors and it will have to go back! Unfotunately it's too late to make it to the gunshop now so looks like my new purchases will have to be made early next week....
  4. Unfortunately it will depend entitirely on your FEO and how he views the cabinet and quite possibly your other household security you may have in place. I seem to remember reading something in the home office guidelines about layers of security, eg external, house etc with the cabinet itself being the 3rd layer- the last resort after all other layers had been breached (I do stand to be corrected though!). I had a one very similar to yours for years and it was always fine, then a new FEO took over the area and he condemned it on his first visit despite my protestations! His main concern
  5. Congratulations, well done- I'll bet the last three months have gone by slowly! I'm on the same sort of timescale as you, still waiting for my certs to arrive though- 6 weeks now since the FEO visit so hopefully not too much longer now!
  6. Def worthwhile speaking to BASC mate- that's what you pays your subs for! Did they give you any reasons for refusing the land? Surely they can't just deem it unsuitable- there must be a reason?
  7. Thanks all, looks like i'll be having a look at the lightforce 170- anyone know where the best deals are on for this at the moment?
  8. Now that my FAC has been approved (just have to wait for the post) could anybody recommend me a decent lamping kit please? I'm not sure what would be best as I will be both on foot and shooting from a vehicle (when I need to cover more ground. In the past I've used a scope mounted light and used to use a separate hand held unit when driving, with a mate doing the lamping. This was a good 10 years ago now so I appreciate things have moved on a bit now- what would you guys recommend? Thanks Andy
  9. Hi Mate, go with the v-mach kit, I've just put one in my HW80 and it's made a world of difference- I had an ox spring in there before- plenty of power but as for accuracy, forget it! ATB
  10. As above, apply for all that you will need to get the job done- the worst they can do is say no. Whereabouts are you as it seems to be luck of the draw when it comes to FEO's in different areas. If you are refused any ask them for reasons why and under what conditions they would be granted- Having met my local FEO now, I would have no hesitation in contacting him to go through possible changes or additions now. Basc are also very helpful with their advice, may be worth giving them a call if you're a member? Hope that helps a bit ATB
  11. All good, the FEO came round today and interviewed me- very helpful and friendly guy. Ammo quantity was a bit light at buy 300 of each cal and hold 400 but did say that if it's proven to not be enough it should be no probs to up the quantity. Certs should arrive in the next couple of weeks SGC backdated to run with the FAC. Even asked me if I had any intention of moving on to larger calibre- seemed surprised that I didn't want to go for it straight away. Intersetingly I asked about fox condition on the cert and the reply was that fox was vermin and would therefore be covered but I should
  12. Thanks for the replies guys. Spookily I've just had the FEO on the phone- interview is this thursday so looks like i'll have some definitive answers to my questions sooner than I anticipated!
  13. What part of Somerset are you as my FAO Is close to me. Hi- I'm just outside Axbridge, but permissions are in North Somerset
  14. Hi Halam, Thanks for the response. Assuming that the licensing dept will be able to let me have his number? Rgds Andy
  15. Hello, new post from new member here and apologies if this has been covered before. I currently have a shotgun cert that expires at the end of April this year and applied for my FAC (0.22 rimfire and 0.17HMR) at the beginning of Jan this year. The licensing dept have been really helpful as I wanted to add the 17HMR calibre and a couple of other items onto my application and they actually contacted me several times to ask if I wanted to go co- term and to keep me updated as to application progress through the office. I am now waitng for a visit from the FEO and unfortunately this is where th
  16. Just joined the forum and would like to say hello to all. I have been browsing for a while now so thought it was about time to sign up and join in! Main interest is shooting although due to sporting commitments haven't had too much time to do very much in the last few years- that's changed now though so looking forward to doing more again!
