  1. The camera you are using produces some top class images and would be hard to beat for £300. The lumix lense with x12 optical zoom gives you the focal lenght of a 300mm zoom, to beat that you really need to be in a dslr camera and only dslrs less then 3 or 4 yrs old will have video plus a 400 or 500 mm zoom is going to set you back quite a few quid.In my opinion there is good value in the secondhand dslr market but I'd say to get an older dslr body ,a 400 or 500 mm zoom lens, an 18-70 mm for everyday shots and a tripod you'd be knocking on the door of £1000.The more experienced photographers on
  2. Another great shot Romany, I'm in the Blackwater valley and years ago you'd see loads of Kingfishers but now the bloody mink have all but wiped them out.
  3. Thanks guys, glad ye like them.I'm not at this photography lark long, I had never taken a photo in my life up to a few years ago then when I got sick and all the dogs and guns had to go photography was suggested as a low impact way to get back out in the countryside.I have to admit that I find it a bit addictive and hope to get better at it in time but I haven't given up hope of a least being able to get a dog for mooching at some stage in the future.
  4. Grade A stuff Romany, all great captures I really like the barn owl and the kingfisher is a very hard capture ,well over here anyway. I know of a lad who spent 6 weeks in a hide and had to resort to placing some minnows in a small fish tank into a stream to get a similar shot.
  5. Well a least you got to keep your lenses for the Nikon and your camera bag was a way lighter without the dozen or so rechargeable AA batteries, I used to have to lug them around as well. I've noticed that too with the D50 ,the battery lasts that long that I sometimes forget to charge it but luckily it's never let me down.
  6. Thanks Guys,Yeah I must admit I do like my old Nikon, there's a lot of older high end glass available out there for it as long as your not afraid to go manual.I have an old Pentax film camera with a good selection of lenses so I got an m42 adaptor ring for the D50 and use them with it, it's quite fiddly but if you take your time you can get some good results. Not knocking Canon but I did have a loan of a 450d with a good selection of lenses earlier in the year but could do nothing with it, now that could more then likely be down to me or the lenses as a lot of them were 3rd party. I think the
  7. Thanks for the comments, was nervous about posting them as they're not hunting related and I've only been into photography a few years. I use a combination of cameras, my main camera now is a Nikon D50 but I still have the two bridge cameras I used when I got into photography both Fuji's a s5700 and an s9500. The grass head was taken with the D50 and a sigma 70-300 on macro. The frost on grass was the fuji s5700 on macro. B/W tree also fuji s5700 ladybird fuji s5700 on macro mountain tree was fuji s9500 B/W snail was nikon D50 with Nikon 18-70 B/w tree rings was fuji s5700 on macro Y

  9. Just something else that will end up being used against proper dog people.
  10. Top class warriors,we won't see their likes in the ring again.I lived around the corner from Benn in the 's just as he was turning pro. Wouldn't say I knew him well but met him a good few times, a really nice bloke.
  11. Switch is the way to go ,cheap and reliable fix also makes it harder for anyone to take the van without permission.
  12. This is getting out of control just saw this on donedeal http://lurcher dog stolen and reports of a blue hiace going around Cork lifting dogs as well.
  13. I would agree with bigbarnett and go for something secondhand in a Nikon D50 (which I use as well) or a Nikon D70 with a few lenses which should easily be picked up under £500. I've bought all of my cameras secondhand and have never had a problem, the majority of photographers treat their camera equipment like babies and they're as good as new. I would go for an 18-55 lens for everyday stuff and a 70-300 lens for wildlife which can also be a great portrait lens if you want to blur out the background, sigma do a 70-300 Nikon fit with macro which is great for close -ups of bugs and plants. As r
  14. I'd go for a rottie everytime, used to have a lot of them years ago, rock solid, great around kids and family, they have an inbuilt guarding on /off switch so they don't have to be trained to guard, I've seen these go in real life and it's truly f@@king scary and I guarantee whoever is stupid enough to take one on will still be there or what's left of him will still be there when you get home.
  15. Top class read, describes exactly what it's all about both the highs and the lows. Well done mate atb.
