I've always found the flourer the spud the better the chips , we've always used kerr pinks or golden wonders.Cut them into chips, par boil them until they start to fluff up, drain in a colander and dry with kitchen towel. Fry in hot oil or lard is the best until golden brown, you'd eat your fingers after them.
  2. Kevin is right, I've had numerous conversations in recent times with other show organisers where the subject of doing away with racing altogether has come up.Anyone who's ever organised a show big or small knows that there's months of unpaid work goes into it and it's totally unfair to have nameless people coming on here an berating every show over racing. Shows are supposed to be a bit of craic for competitors and spectators alike and raise much needed funds for many a worthy cause, they are also the public face of what fieldsports and the people who partake in them are about. With the amount
  3. hope he's back on his feet soon.
  4. I totally agree with the fact that the majority of people who currently work terriers will continue to do so no matter what laws are passed. But once this generation is gone who will have the fortitude and the passion to keep it going, where will the new blood come from ? Addiction is the right word, reading the last few posts those feelings of excitement and anticipation burn inside me as strongly now as they did 40 years ago when I first went out with my father. The world of 40 years ago is a million miles away from the world of today, all we wanted to do was be outside hunting ,fishing whate

    Infiltrate

It's the wannabes, bulls@@tters and the guys with the big egos that are easy to infiltrate. They need a constant supply of fresh meat to keep their fantasy worlds a float. Once they're found to be full of s@@t they need to start all over with the next person, therefore they're not as fussy about who they bring into their circle as the rest of us.Any information gotten from these will be of low value, being mostly bulls@@t, yes they'll throw a few big names around to try and legitimise themselves but they won't know anything about these people. You see that with the raid on a certain name latel
  6. Nah mate you want to keep the dog on the lead or better still in the house it's safer there. As for the woods, they're dark scarey places you and your mate don't want to be going anywhere near there.
  7. Terriermen have been in self preservation mode for as long as I can remember,we don't have a ban here yet but we all act as if there is one. Paranoia is rife always on the lookout for infiltrators, dog thiefs and all the other demons lining up to get us, we all follow this unwritten "omerta" and because we are only interested in our own individual interests most people don't care about bans or constraints as we'll just carry on as normal. Terrier work doesn't have to be driven 'underground' it is already seen as subversive ,a bit of a black art because we've already put it there.Like all thi
  8. Don't know the guy but maybe he has it, I'm in that position I was supposed to be gone over ten years ago not with MS but autoimmune disease and I'm still here.I take more tablets a day then someone who's had a heart and lung transplant and on the whole I'm relatively OK but I could be gone in the morning.
  9. He aint doing bad for someone who had MS and only had a few years to live. That was well over 10 years ago. Classic!!, only on THL could someone be getting s**t for staying alive. lol
  10. Had a great day ,the craic was good, lots of top class dogs. Thanks.
  11. Great news, congrats to all those involved in getting the bitch back, it's good to have a network of honourable people around the country.
  12. Unfortunately I missed the show last year, could someone tell me is it easier to go through Athlone or Portlaoise coming from Cork.
  13. Without the IWTF we're at nothing and as sad as it sounds human nature being what it is the organised groups will throw terrier work under the bus to save themselves, if we're not seen to be united.I was talking about the IWTF to a few different lads at the show in Wexford yesterday and there seems to me to be a lot of paranoia regarding peoples details and the fear of dogs being stolen as well as people not knowing that this bill is even happening. My understanding from what was said at the meeting in the horse and jockey is that only the basic details of each club chairperson would be known
  14. Providing such a service can only strengthen the federation as would all be it further down the line an insurance scheme and terrier rescue. The federation gives lads access to a network of trustworthy people in every corner of the island and as more clubs form and affiliate this network will grow thus squeezing out the shadowy world that this scum work in. In the modern world word of a stolen dog could be right across the whole of Ireland within minutes using web text which can only increase the chances of getting the dog back.
  15. Good turnout and like all first meetings was more of a getting to know you session then anything else which went on too long and yet not long enough if you know what I mean. Great to hear of the solid work already put in by the committee and the results already achieved also good to get the formal ground rules of the Federation sorted. The Federation has real momentum now but this momentum needs to be maintained ,I don't agree with the approach RISE is taking and easing back, we were very nearly caught napping on this issue if we go to sleep on it now the world we wake up to will be devoid o
  16. Thanks lads, it was a great show, I was under serious pressure in the week leading up to it with the weather, but it makes all the hard work worthwhile when the show was supported in the way it was. Roll on next year .
  17. Thanks again John, it was a pleasure to have you over and the pictures show just how thoroughly you judged each and every dog.
  18. Thanks John, I hope to have the lurcher and terrier pictures tonight or in the morning
