  2. Hi Guys, Im currently at harper adams uni studying agriculture which means ive had to leave the dogs at home and need to get out! was wondering if anyone does any work around Shrewsbury or in Shropshire that would be willing to let me tag along as i miss running the dogs so bad! Anything would be much appreciated! ATB Jim
  3. I completely agree with this!!! well said! and how can you say £225 is to much if your going to be working the dog for 6 + years! if i was in the position to i would have snapped one up!
  4. Thats prety much what ive experience mate, such great hunting dogs, get the job done every time, and one of the best looking dogs out ther in my opinion . . . but at the end of the day i need a dog thats obedient, thats why im worried about straying away from the 1/4 collie crosses :/
  5. Real good reply mate, cheers. I know mysels about training the collie crosses, i was wondering more about other crosses without collie in like beddy and bul crosses, have they got the brains to be easy to train and obedient?
  6. How trainable are the collie crosses (1/2 and 1/4s) compared to crosses without collie in at general obedience such as recall, retrieve, sit, stay, wait, over etc?
  7. I dont know how much sense this is going to make as im not too sure how to word it but here goes. recently i keep seeing pups up for sale that have many crosses in them eg. grey/bull/whip/collie x grey/whip/bull/saluki/beddy . . . and so on. I have always heard (and read in my highly regarded lurcher books) that when choosing a dogs theres alot of chance in what the pup will turn out like, could go almost all to one breed or another, or that some of the pups will be good and others not so much. whereas with 1st crosses and 3/4 crosses such as collie/grey x whip your almost definatly going to g
  8. Has anyone got a cheap lamp they want to sell?? pm me.
  9. cheers for the info guys, ive had my doubts about whippets for a long time but i just keep hearing good things about them! i was also worried about some of the smaller whippets, around 19tts being a bit small for the job. Im guna try and find someone to go out with who has a pure whip to see for myself and if its proved to me theyre as good as some people say, who knows, might even get 1 myself in a few years¬!
  10. Im hearing alot of good things about pure working whippets at the moment but do they actually stand up to 1/2 and 3/4 whippets crosses at taking rabbits, both day and night? are they not plagued by bad feet and thin coats?
  11. So chaps, what do you recon is the best height for a lurcher that is doing an equal amount of bushing and lamping and only taking rabbits?? any pics would be much appreciated!
  12. for me, as i do mostly rabbit work, bushing, mooching and lamping it would have to be a collie grey x whippet, with mabye a bit of beddy thrown in but essentially 1/4 collie, 3/4 sighthound or mabye 1/4 collie 3/4 sighthound crossed with a 1/4 beddy 3/4 greyhound, if that makes sense?! hahaha
  13. if only i wasnt at uni !!! as soon as i graduate im getting a dog of this breeding! beautiful dogs, will make some cracker!
  14. How obedient are you lurchers and what crosses are they? will a 1/4 collie cross be smart enough to sit, lay down, stay, retrieve to hand and come when called? many thanks!
  15. Oh ok, ill look into it. oh, any reason for that?
  16. Yeah that doesnt sound like a too bad idea either, but would it be harder to find one?
  17. ah well this is great news then!! i was really worried the dog wouldnt have enough brains if i went with just 1/4! minds pretty set on collie/grey x whippet now! just have to find some pups . . .
