  1. yeah it is a shame mate . come on lads, one of you must be planning a litter???
  2. because i dont move into my new house untill late june and were theyre not letting me have another dog on the farm :'(
  3. Alright lads, was just wondering if anyone had a litter planned that would be ready around june/july or maybe a bit after?? however i want the pups to be 1/4 collie! not too fused about the rest of its make up, be ideal if it had no saluki or bull in but not essential if the parents are good workers. sorry to sound so fussy but been after a cross like this for a while and as ill have the dog for the next decade want it to be just right! atb in hunting Big Jim
  4. this thread would have been good if it wasnt spoilt, woulda been good to see some decent posts . . .
  5. i see where your coming from mate, but make sure hes a genuine lad and if he is help him out. at the end of the day, the younger generation are the ones that are going to be carrying this beautiful sport of ours on, and its up to them to stop the working terrier from dying out. if no one where to take out youngsters and show them the ropes imagine what terrier work will be in 50 years time??
  6. smart little dogs them, i like the looks of a nice plummer!
  7. Yeah i agree with you mate, i like to go out about and half hour before sun up and then go from there, at least at this time some of the bunnys have a false sense of security thinking theyre still covered by dark.
  8. Ive always wondered how a terrier would match up to a good cocker/springer for bushing aswell.
  9. now thats some serious mooching! wouldnt mind doin some of that! always fancied a nice weekend away in the fells hahah
  10. I know how you feel mate, no better way to spend the day than being outdoors with dogs all day watching them do what theyre bred for.
  11. I agree with you mate. its a pleasure to watch the dogs hunting up and pushing out game to chase. its nice to know that some people can produce good numbers on decent land. i think i prefer a good long mooch with the dogs hunting up more than lamping where the dog just courses.
  12. i was just wondering today on how other lads do, for any of you lads who regularly do daytime work, be it just mooching or bushing with a terrier/spaniel aswell as lurhcers: if you go out for a good 2-3 hours on land with a healthy stock of rabbits and the weathers right, what would your average number of rabbits caught be? ATB JIm
  13. looks like a handy dog mate, hows it bred?
  14. dont see white dogs too often!! hes looking nice tho mate!
  15. theyre everywhere, i know they can be smashing dogs but alot of their owners are idiots who just want a dog to make them look hard. not my cup of tea and i wouldnt be sad to see a decline in numbers . . .
  16. alright lads, is there any good dvds on doing rabbits in the daytime? ive got DVDs of doing foxes in the day and rabbits on the lamp but id like to see some of daytime mooching/bushing with the lurchers? oh and while were at it, if any of you lads have seen foxing on the fells do you know what cross they are? look 1/4 collie but not sure? atb Jim
  17. im about to get my first that ill keep indoors in a few months and im sh^ting it about toilet training it because i work full time! im hopeing i can take it out morning then at lunch (as i live on the farm i work on) and watch it all evening. do you lads think that will be enough??
  18. like to see a lad who treats a dog well, best of luck chap!
  19. does anyone on here hunt chelmsford/essex area? im working down there for a year in june and want to know how hot it is? it always seems to be hotter when your near big towns/cities i think? ill obviously try for permission but that might take a while so . . .
  20. i would also be interested in a dog of similar breeding in the next few months. maybe crossed back to a whippet instead of a gh?
  21. sound exactly what i want mate, if you could that would be awsome!
  22. im newport, shropshire (near telford) and id happy go to derby!! how old is it and dog/bitch?? if you can vouch for it mate, ill be very interested!
  23. has it seen many bunnies?? get some pics up??
  24. right lads, ive been offered a 2 year old bitch (collie/grey x whip) and its the exact breeding ive been looking for. Currently however I am in a rented property so not too sure the landlord would be too please with a pup if its not housed trained and i dont have any kennels here so getting an older dog might be ideal. the dog has only really done lamp work and when its been bushing its always been with a bushing dog and it just skips about waiting for a bolt. do you think if i put alot of time into taking it out bushing alone it will start to hunt up and bush its own rabbits? and whats your g
  25. if its bushing you want the dog for mate then you cant go wrong with a whippet x. basically you just want any small to medium sized dog so its got the acceleration and turning ability needed for bushing. a collie grey x whip would be my ideal choice for this! but im sure many others will reccomend a good beddyxwhip for this work as they are also cracking dogs!
