Don't know what to do for the best now , she has made her nest in the flight , it is under the plastic roofing and I have added plastic corner pieces to try and keep her out of the wind I have also shut the finches in the shed bit as the little barstewards kept nicking her nest , will the canaries be on out overnight ? I presume they will as she chose that pan when there is 2 inside the shed☺
  3. Thank you , mule , hi tong po in the canary book I have it says to replace eggs with dummy eggs so they are all placed for sitting at the same time so they hatch together and should be equal size ☺
  4. My canary has now built a nest and I have bought some dummy eggs to replace any she lays , how's best to store her eggs and do you have to turn them like chicken eggs also how many do you let yours lay before you give the real ones back , cheers

Thanks guys I won't be disappointed if they are 2 males as not planning on doing too much with canaries as waiting till the end of the season , I have got back in touch with Geoff walker the author of the canary books ( as he only lives 5 miles from me would be rude not too ☺ ) I was going to buy a couple of pairs from him then the rats visited so I cancelled , I have reserved a pair of recessive white brown opals and red agate mosaics . My plan is to keep the zebra finches over summer then just canaries from then on , but I will put a pan in is it best sited in the flight area or inside the s
  8. Hi all , I have bought 2 canaries from a aviary place near me , they said they only had cock birds in so I thought I'd just get 2 for now but only 1 sings proper the other chirps and also let's the 1 that sings feed it , so my question is will 2 males feed each other ,thanks in advance

Thanks guys it's taken a while as tried to make it as rodent proof as possible as I lost all my red factor canaries to rats , I have tiled the walls of the shed about 18" high and the shed has a concrete slab floor next is to insulate it and cover the inside with tongue and groove , thanks for your tips fireman I do have some clear perspex so that will be going on next , what type of black paint do you recommend .

  13. hi all , back in june my wife's goldfinch died and i promised i would get her a pair when i had sorted the new aviary also would i be able to keep other native finches in with them , what i would like to know is when is the best time of year to buy native finches thanks in advance

  15. cheers matt , will think about a sheath but as it sits in a display cabinet there might not be any point , can you pm me if you do decide to go ahead with the smaller blades
  16. rats did my canaries in a similar way but they also piled dead zebra finches in a corner of the shed , used one to bait the trap , now the shed has concrete inside and tiled walls .
  17. thanks matt , that might be best , out of curiosity how much would a tan colourd sheath cost if i got you to make one for the knife i had from you also will you be doing any small bladed blanks with a similar shape to the opinel blades
  18. hi guys i am looking for a folding knife making kit with small blade , just fancy having a go , i do have one of midnights fixed blades which i bought as something to keep and pass onto my son as it was bought with money left to me when my dad died hence it doesnt get used much i tend to use my opinel more . my question is would i be better off buying a knife and replacing the handle/scales or is there a decent kit available i was thinking of something like this http://www.heinnie.com/kershaw-shuffle-18711 thanks in advance
  19. i will only be using them for walking the dogs and a few trips out with the air rifle , nothing too strenuous so hopefully they will be alright .
