  1. Nice looking pike. I agree with the other guys at 7-8lbs.
  2. Well i've only been on this site for a couple of weeks and so far it's been real good to me. I came on here hoping to learn a bit about the way you guys in the UK do things. I've been into hunting for just shy of 30 years now. I've killed countless deer with gun and bow. I've killed more than my share of Bears, Turkeys and just about any other game there is over here. I've never heard of anyone in Canada using terriers though. Sure lots of guys chase Coons, foxes and coyotes with hounds but i wanted to learn about these little Terriers. I actually found it hard to believe that a dog tha
  3. Great post and nice video! No shortage of deer there.
  4. Congratulations on your first deer! Hopefully many more in your future!
  5. this is not the place to spread his message though! This is where we discuss dogs!
  6. Wildlife officer, Is that like a game warden where you have the ability to lock up the bad guys and take away their guns? theres a few guys on here gonna have to watch what they say! Lucky for me i'm not in your juristiction!
  7. Hey, welcome to the site! Not much good eatin off a crow! :11: This is a good place to get started, lots to learn and lots of good advise here!
  8. Well, i really like big game. We spend Oct to Dec bowhunting for whitetail deer. First week of Nov is our annual shotgun hunt for deer. This is a lot of fun. All the neighbours, about a dozen of us get together and chase the deer all week. We usually get 15 to 20 in that time. It's basically a cull to try and cut the numbers down. August is Bear hunting time. Me and my youngest boy prefer our 12ga for this. My oldest boy uses his .270. We do a little bit of rabbit hunting after deer season but the snow usally gets too deep by Feb. There's plenty of ducks and geese but we don't hunt

  10. Great story and fantastic pics! Shame about the Sika's but at least you came home with a good story and great memories and no regrets! And a couple of stinking goats!
  11. Great topic! Around here we do things a little different. Winchester 12 ga pump gun. 3" magnums loaded with .000Buckshot. Very deadly out to 40 yards.
  12. Great story! I think you're a little hard on youself as far as shot placement goes. An inch or two higher would be nice but you're shooting at live game, not a target. congratualations on the first deer of the year!
  13. I think i'm seeing a little bit of confusion here. You're asking about crossbows, correct? I've been hunting deer and black bears with crossbows for nearly 30 years now. I've never seen a crossbow with a draw weight as low as 80lbs. That would be a toy. Most are in the range of 150 to 175lbs draw weight. A compound bow would be more in the range of 50lbs to 80lbs for hunting. Either has more than enough power to kill large game. At ranges under 30 yards the arrow will pass right through the animal be it a large deer (300lbs) or a Bear. This will leave a very clear blood trail if you h
  14. Well where i'm from we don't use tracking dogs, we rely on our own tracking ability. Following blood trail etc. I did however have the opertunity while in Scotland to stalk Roe Deer with a fellow that had a Barvarian Mountain Hound. It was a fantastic dog! Very quiet nautured and stayed by our side during the stalk. After the shot it was released. It found the downed deer without any trouble at all and stood by it's side and barked until we got there. I can see a definate advantage to using a dog over human tracking skills. Unfortunatley for most of us the need of a dog once or twice a
  15. Very nice! Love to hear the story behind it.
  16. Hi Everyone. Just wanted to say hello from Canada. Very interested in the British way of hunting and looking forward to leaning more. So far i've been on a Pheasant shoot in North Wales and i've stalked Roe Deer in Scotland. Hopefully many more adventures to come! Cheers.
