  4. hiya all, been a while since I posted on here, been busy, I have a signed copy of dogs and deer, I will swap for a copy of hare and the swift hound or the recent ferreting book, all the best Annemarie
  5. ok now I have your attention Lads I thought I would introduce to you a handy little tool I came across on my travels today,, we all know that moment when we're out with the dogs or checking horses etc, when we have to pop under electric fences, unsteadily balance over barb wire and kick the leg up to move brambles out the way, put a coat over barb wire for the dog to jump over, use boot/lead to tub wire up a tad to let dog go under the barb wire,,, ring a bell ? I was talking to a buddy of mine, an older gentleman hunter, who isn't as young as he used to be or has bad back/leg, who h
  6. i saw a family of badgers during the day in the uk once, and another time saw them out in the snow a few years back while out with the local foxhound pack,, good pic mate
  7. anything i would love to say would be used against me! so no comment but made me giggle!!
  8. if your out rabbiting or mooching the dog is moving and it would be difficult to see the numbers clearly with dog moving around,, if person is walking past you and your wary of this, simply stand in the way of the mark or strok the dog or hold the dog in such a way that mark is not seen as they walk past. i think its a brilliant idea, always pondered the idea of getting my dogs tattooed but once i heard horror stories of them getting cut off i was put off the idea, i know the same can and does happen with chips but all my dogs are chipped. i would love the idea of having the brand on my dog a
  9. before I bought my black bitch I was living in Suffolk, I viewed a lot of litters not sure how many and I travelled to essex, suffolk, norfolk, cambridgeshire and others, and walked away from the lot, I've seen skinny unwormed puppies, unhealthy dams, aggressive breeders, dirty bedding, and i walked away from the lot. I don't drive so travelling to these places took a heap of effore but i wouldn't get any old pup or i'd look in the paper! you have to be careful, lots breeding for money or just something to do and macho bullshit, ideally you should the sire but certainly the dam, heard the bree
  10. great to see the photos, soon i will be just as keen hunting as i was a couple of years back, i used to go out as many meets were either local or nearly local, then i moved sadly and since then apart from a handful in various places i haven't been, i perfer to be part of the pack and getting hands dirty rather then just watching people and hounds i don't really know. but once driving myself and my daughter will be hunting once again! but at min im doing lurcher and ferret work with odd terrier dig too so shouldn't complain but i will lol miss the hounds! xx
  11. all depends on the dog, personally i think its good to have both house and kennels considered to be the dogs home, produces dogs happy and clean in kennels and same indoors, have seen dogs that stay lifetime in kennels but thanks to owner making extra time to them the bond is good, have also seen dogs kept indoors where bond, training and general respect is shite so it all depends on the individual dog and owner, make sure kennel is positive place to be and dog should be happy in there alone or with company, of course if dog has been raised with other dogs then it will rather company.. hope th
  12. lovely to see! had a good couple of day out with dogs but no nets last week, am off again on weds love this time of year!! happy hunting
  13. nice to see some honest comments without the "big I a," bullsh*t that so many wannabes seem to have these days. i went out this morning for a mooch and saw completly nothing, i've been out for a shine on perfect conditions to see nothin and then go out with full moon and really still air and had run after run!! i agree with previous comment I love ferreting to just dogs no nets, ye don't get as many rabbits but some cracking runs!! really love it, pity I dont have a better camera to catch it happy honest hunting everyone!!
  14. not a jacker or he wouldn't have caught the first one, simply tired after the run i'd say,, could have walked far before the first run, need more road work to fitten him up a bit more, could have had an off day,, pulled a muscle, thirsty, loads of reasons personally a jacker is if the dog sees quarry a number of times and showed no interest in running any, but we all have our own views, check muscles, road work him and try and rest beween runs see how you go, good luck and happy hunting!
  15. so sorry to hear this mate, like earlier posts have said thats really bad luck,, my bitch broke her front leg we had it pinned and plated for the pin to move and have to have that removed with yet more crate rest,, they hate being confined especially when they have had a taste of freedom, perhaps while the pup was putting the weight on the one leg due to the other being bandaged up that with the weak puppy bones this caused the bone to weaken and then with the other leg healed puppy got to have freedom again where the break in second leg presented itself. all i can say is I am so sorry it is
  16. good to see some great pics and congrats on dog doing well all the best
  17. been digging weds, ferreting yesterday lazy day today, fox hunting tomor, happy days!! :)

  19. are you able to draw your own? if not I'm sure when you walk in to your chosen tattoo place, if you have a chat about what you want done they'll do a couple of sketches for you to see on spot, bring in some photos with you and say what your after,, good luck!!
  20. i agree each to their own, we don't all do things the same do we lads or lurchers as a whole would not be as wonderfully varied as it tis, happy hunting and all the best Fallow
  21. was out myself on thursday, on top of mountain and the ground still soakin!! couldn't cut my lawn as its soaked too lol great to be out whatever the weather to be honest, i had a shit season last year partly due to not accepting bitch couldn't run no more and lack of opportunity but all changed now thank god, bitch retired happily to sofa and I'm starting to gather some real good spots of permission and this season will make or break the younger two ,, bring it on!! mind you at least it will mean the cattle should be taken in early, fingers crossed,
