  1. Get the foot down........I know someone whos wedding photos has his gundogs in it with bow ties on............ Just like my wedding! My dog is in some of the photos wearing a bow tie that matched the colour of my tie.
  2. That's a good one Scot, I like it. Who wrote it? I've always liked "The Raven" by Edgar Allan Poe. http://www.heise.de/ix/raven/Literature/Lore/TheRaven.html
  3. A pocket calendar OF your nan as a 17 year old lad? That's wrong on more than one level!
  4. Oh come on! You can't withold pictures of the ferret palace.
  5. Can anyone recommend a good supplement mix for a working Gundog? I have a 3 year old lab x pointer that I take picking up once a week. He's fed raw but I havent been adding anything supplement wise to his food. I'm thinking supplements will aid his recovery during the working season. I'd be grateful if someone could recommend a tried and trusted brand. Thanks in advance!
  6. They've been loaned to Scotland. That's no guaranty they won't get deep fried!!
  7. Depends if you want things retrieved or ripped into tiny pieces and eaten! Seriously though it wouldn't be impossible to mould a staffy into something resembling a gundog but it would take a lot of work even for an experienced trainer (which judging by your post you're not). From your post I'm guessing you're rough shooting so it's spaniels for you. As regards training, there are some good books out there but I'd defenatly recommend finding a club.
  8. Our schools need more teachers like this. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2068033/Primary-school-pupils-home-trip-tears-teacher-takes-ducks-blasted-sky.html?ito=feeds-newsxml I especially like the typically anti reporting yet the majority of comments support the school!
  9. I'm with Argos. Got it through a price comparison website. Dogs can suffer some terrible misfortunes while just out for a little walk
  10. It's short for Arse Ticklers Brotherhood and only people who are members are allowed to put the initials at the end of their posts.
  11. Hayseed Dixie. Classic rock in a bluegrass style, best of both worlds. and you can't have a banjo player in the band without playing this
  12. Imagine wearing it to Tescos! Or even better, walking up to a LACS stand in the street and start thumbing through the leaflets!!
  13. i remember many years ago i was about 14.met one of my old mans workmates in town with his wife pushing a pram, stopped to speak to him and looked in the pram as you do.well this baby was as black as 2oclock in the moring, him and his wife are white btw.i looked at the kid, looked at her and them him,and said.oh i gotta go now bye.well he related the story to my dad and all the workmates on the monday morning.he said the look on my face was priceless and wished he had a camera.he said i could see the wheels whirring inside his head, thinking this isnt right.haha  I'm surprised you
  14. I've bought myself a trapper hat with real rabbit fur on the ear flaps and peak. just waiting for it to be delivered.
  15. I feel like part of me is missing if I go ANYWHERE without my dog!
  16. My wife's got one and she thinks it's great. The backlight is pretty dull (you couldn't read it in the dark) so I'd say it's a lot easier on the eyes than stating at a screen. The ebooks are about half the price of their paperbacked counterparts too so eventually it'll pay for itself and then start saving you money.
  17. cracking news dismissing their campaigns director for a fraudulent expenses claim that must mean they will cancel all their campaigns against us and leave us alone then. Not a chance of that happening Dan. Louise Robertson who was Taylor's deputy for the last 2 years took over the role with immediate effect. the LACS have never been inclined to let any adversity stand in their way. They're not ones to let being wrong get in they're way either.
  18. Boots. I find them warmer, they fit better and they feel more secure on my feet.
  19. Well after Day 2's highs, Day 3 was, quite frankly, a bit shit. There were too many pickers up with twice as many dogs between us. One of the guns had got the date wrong and those that did turn up might as well not have bothered 'cos they couldn't hit a barn door! No birds came down anywhere near our position during drive 1 so Max stayed on the lead while we watched the nearest gun's dog pick up all the birds in sight. I thought we had a half decent position for drive 2. We were stood right in the middle of the pen all the birds were heading for. During the drive a Roe buck ran past us
  20. I can only echo what everybody else has said really. Different dogs for different jobs. You can train most Gundog breeds to do any job on a shoot but a spaniel will never be happy just sitting and watching before picking up after a drive 'cos it's bred to hunt. Likewise, a lab is bred to retrieve not to push birds from cover. As much as I admire and enjoy watching spaniels work I like doing the job of picking up so it's labradors for me. As for the question of the difference between cockers and springers I can only speculate that it is mainly to do with size. It seems to me that the large
  21. Find a shoot, find out where the keeper lives and go and see him. Dress apropriatly, no need to wear a suit but don't go dressed like chav or p***y either. If you want to take a dog don't mention it yet, get a few shoot days under your belt first before considering bringing a dog along. The keeper doesn't know you yet and the worst thing in the beating line is an out of control dog. Also, you need to learn what is expected of you which you won't do if you are concentrating on your dog. Oh, and don't just rock up on a shoot day, the keeper's got enough to worry about without strangers turn
  22. The only person I'm a bit disappointed is on that list is Tony Robinson. The rest I either don't give a shit about or I've never heard of.
