Think im gonna just convert the shed its only storage..... its very tempting to be honest... might even extend it make a kennel and get myself a collie x GH!!!!!... oh yea.. forgot about the wife.. one can dream! edit: to answer your question. the only problem with burrying a pipe is ferrets have a nasty habbit of hiding food... if they hide meat down there it could go off and stink and even poison the ferret if it eats it too late.. i guess

haha screamer

good chance your mates on about polecat ferrets.. jills are usually smaller than hobs (ive seen some massive jills though) so you cant put it down to a small jills... my mates hob is tiny compared to the jill he mated it with last year. your going to get bit at first if there younguns either out of excitment or nervousness but keep handeling them, letting them feed out your hand and just being around your hand will stop them.. also around your feet while your wearing shoes will stop them being nervous of that. you can keep jills together fine.. and you dont have to let them mate once a ye

Really nice looking dog that.. wish the misses would let me get a running dog ;/ -
lol mad rabbit!.. the owner said there is a few people there but not many but he said he also has a few people coming to look around.. he DID say hes going to show us where there shouldnt be anyone but still, people will go for walks n what not... I dont think we will come across any trouble, im just wondering the best way to handle busy bodies since as i say.. gotta be a bit more polite this time im quit excited.. ive got 4 big farms but this should be a good day!

your not wrong there bud! looks like a clever little thing too!

I've got a caravan park to ferret on friday. The guy rang my dad and asked if we could go up cos' hes going out of his mind and needs it clearing up before he gets busy over easter n' stuff.. Ive got 5 permissions and only one has other people on it but those are horse riders or a terrier breeder so neither give us a hard time when we are shooting or ferreting (obviously we stop shooting until they are out of the way).. infact the terrier bloke gets the odd rabbit off us and the horse ladies obviously thank us as it could break the horses leg etc... the odd dog walker gets on one of the farms

good luck Vin... i got a stray handed into me a while ago.. it died after about 3 month of having it but it was on its last legs when i got it.. alot of work put into it to get it back to health.. i didnt work it and i dont know its history how old it was (looked old) so kept it apart from the other ferrets just incase but its last 3 months were alot happier than it had before hand ... its a nice feeling when you can get them back to health.

Vet was pretty sure it was insulinoma yea.. and i like to research stuff myself and all the symtoms were there... apart from the honey on his gums should of picked him up for about half hour and it didnt so i dunno.. insulinoma is basicly like a cancer on the pancrease i believe where it kicks out too much insulin thanks to tumas on the pancrease... thats what ive read so dont take it for gospel.. apparently a good diet can protect from this but my ferrets are on a good diet so might of just been unluky with that one ferret thanks

Oh he wasnt too old.. ive not been doing it as long as you lads haha...my mate said his usually get to 5 so 7 must be a good age!

yea thats what i wanted to do but the misses was kicking off enough couldnt be bothered with the chew... 6ft x 4ft and 3.5ft high is plenty for my 3 ferrets (was 4 until today) they get alot of excercise in there since i havent been able to walk for a good while. one thing i will say is make sure its secure.. they are bloody escape artists.. ive had to fold the mesh right under the wood.. its sank into the stones about an inch too concrete base because its easy to clean and keeps there claws down to a degree... and they cant dig there way out theres MUCH MUCH better runs from lads
-
I always gut my rabbits and keep the liver/heart/kidneys... sometimes i boil them up and give them to the dogs other times i give them to the ferrets.. the rabbits then get frozen to kill anything off (un skinned) and cut in half. i had 4 ferrets until today and 1 half a rabbit would sort them out for the night.. pigeons i just chuck in as they are.. you will find the feathers will end up in there bed and thats all that will be left.. my only rule of thumb is.. dont feed them somethign that eats another animal.. example.. crows.. rats.. etc.... i know alot of lads dont mind feeding crows

Sorry to hear that jasper.. ive just lost the first ferret i got, today.. bit gutted since hes the one i learned with and he was the one who wouldnt come up until the rabbits were gone.. hope the rest of them are ok!

I need the shed for other things than just the ferrets so i couldnt do what i wanted.. however here is my setups.. bottom hutch for the male (was 2 in there..) top hutches connected for the jills on homemade shelves Theres a window in the shed and during the day the door is usually open or there in the run area..... during the day i put them in this.. you can see how it was made 2x2 flagstones for the base.. theres pipes, hammocks and fluffy things hanging from the lid for them to rag on... rocks for them to climb about on and ferns n stuff i throw

another update.. went back in to check on the ferret and his heart beat was super slow and he couldnt budge... took him to the vet (even though i cant walk!!) to stop his suffering.. vet said theres no chance of a ferret springing back to life from being as in a bad way as he was... worst thing about it.. there was no vet nurse there so i had to bloody help the vet find the vein and what not... first time ive seen an animal PTS .. anyways for the best... down a bloody good working ferret but his brother is pretty good and got two younguns im bringing on too. thanks again guys ;/

update for teh lads who took the time to give me advice before i could get to vets.. had to get up early this morning so made a point of going out to check on him.. he literally dragged himself out his bedding so i put him in a cat box with plenty of blanket and brought him inside.. syringe fed him the stuff the vet gave me .. he took it quit happily but couldnt get it without the syringe. also made sure i saw him get some water before i had to go to the hostpital again for botox in me calf (god damn thats painful!!)... coming back i see him asleep in the box (didnt know ferrets snored o.0

that one going mad backwards and forwards are like one mine.. i put it down to excitment since the dog does the same thing when he sees me get them out he starts getting excited.. look really good mate!
-
Mine get Raw.... mince, chicken thighs, rabbit, fish(usually tuna), pigeon, phesent ... when im out of meat or its really warm, i give them bisuit with ferret vitamin paste mixed in... also throw an egg in every now and then make them crack it themselves keeps them busy for a bit sometimes.
-
thanks to all the lads who wernt tools.. if you had read you would of known i was at hostpital yesterday.. nothing to do with money at all i dont care how much something costs when it comes to either my dogs or my ferrets.. its a resposibilty i knew i wanted! I only came here to ask the question because A)theres alot of clever lads on here whos helped me out a great deal and B)couldnt get to vet yesterday now.. ive had it to the vet today (because yesterday i was at hostpital smart arses) and he couldnt get any blood from its ears or its pads of its feet.. but he has gave some really high
-
yea hes started to drink out the bottle now and he was nibbeling some chicken and licking paste off the bars. I've got to go to the hostpital now so i will have to check whenever i (if i do..) get home I'll let you know thanks guys

hell be about 2 - 2.5 yr old.. had a castration (to stop the brothers fighting they both got it done).. hes fed chicken, mince, phesent when ive got it, pigeon, rabbit obviously, an egg every now and then.. and dry when im out of meat or its very hot.. dunno what else i can tell you hes drinking a bit more and licking ferret paste off the bars now seems to of picked up a fair bit since i went in but im not gonna be positive just yet
