  1. that yellow cocker pup's a stunner!
  2. most sensible post on this thread.
  3. it's legal up to five days, but most vets prefer to do it at 3. After five days it has to be done under anesthetic, so today is your last chance. As others have said, you should've sorted this before pups were born. I've an undocked cocker due to her breeder not getting their act together, and her full tail has been nothing but a pain. I do sympathize that it's ridiculous that your regular vets won't do it- it shouldn't be this hard to get them to do a legal procedure after all!- but unfortunately that's the way it is. Sorry to sound harsh, hope you've found somewhere.
  4. cracker good luck, let us know how he progresses!
  5. nice one there's a good few gundogs don't retrieve that nicely!
  6. As the title says, been thinking about going to the CLA this year as I've never been it's a bit closer to me than it has been. Looking at the price though, is it worth the money/significantly bigger and better than something like Highclare?

    gutted!

sh**ty luck mate, gutted for you. You've got to hope for the best regardless, she may heal up really well and still be able to do some work, even if it's not as much as before.
  8. don't think there'll ever come I time when I don't spend all day cleaning before my mum comes round...

  9. what do you do when you don't have THL for a day...panic and join moochers of course.

  10. always fed skinners, just changed from maintanence (£17 for 15kg) to the hypoallergenic with daily dose of joint aid in it which is double the price, but works out cheaper than giving joint aid seperately and is brilliant for my cocker who started getting scurfy on the normal stuff. heard very good things about csj, and would probably change to them if I had probs with Skinners, but at the moment I'm sticking with what works. would also avoid Bakers like the plague- it's the dog equivalent of a turkey twizzler, if not worse.
  11. Clare has it totally right, she's wasted on labs! I just posted this article below in response to another post earlier up, but it might be useful to you too as I said there too it's aimed at someone training a young spaniel pup, so not all relevant. Tracy at Corbinsbere Dog Training in Bere Regis near you (I'm right up the other end of Dorset, asked incase you were right on the doorstep, but if you still want to come on a walk out sometime and I can try and give you a hand you're welcome ) is excellent and will definately put you on the right track.- From an early age encourage the d
  12. it sounds like you want to teach them to quarter- the following article is one I found for teaching quartering to spaniel pups, so it may prove a bit of a challenge to terriers who've already learnt to follow their nose and it's not all relevant but you might get something from it- From an early age encourage the dog to quarter in short sessions – as a very young puppy you can capitalise on its natural curiosity and dependency upon you by walking tight zig-zags and encouraging the pup to follow by whatever means works for you and the dog. As the dog gets bolder you can reinforce the dist
  13. smart looking dog, and sounds like he's coming on brilliant- I think all dogs go through that teenage stage where you regret buying them, or at least all the spaniels I've known have I'd love to have the work for a HPR, really jealous!
  14. happy days! good luck with them
  15. anyone got a kid who's a confident rider and looking for a pony to show? search for Wharley Lavender on facebook

  16. any sign of them yet?? can't wait to see what she's got cooking in there! 9 I reckon, but I'm ususally wrong
  17. tbh she's got a better body than most women 30 years younger than her! legend.
  18. oooh forgot about that christmas whisky I got. Johnny Drum and Dr Pepper, that'll do nicely.

  19. start giving him some hand signals- show him you're excited in a piece of cover or whatever, and gesture in, get him following your hand to the left and right and start him off quartering that way. you may have your work cut out with a three year old though- whereabouts in dorset are you as I could possibly give you some help?
  20. mate if I was after another cocker I'd bite your hand off, have you advertised her anywhere else? you could try contacting Dave Templar's got her sire (google countryways gundogs), he might well know of someone after a bitch of that breeding/experience. Alternatively, could you hang onto her and try to get a bit more beating in the future? She may have six years more work in her after all, seems a shame to part with her.
  21. I'd agree with you Clare. One problem might be that she's lost her confidence/drive on them, maybe cos you've unintentionally done a bit too much retrieving with her. The looking at you wagging thing suggests she's not sure what to do, which is what my cocker will do if you keep on chucking the same bird out over and over. It's like she's saying "I've brought it back all these times and you keep chucking it, so that's obviously not what you want, and now I don't know what to do?!" Having said that, are these freshly killed birds she's having the problems with, or cold'uns? Does she run str
  22. pissing down!! dogs don't even want to go out !

  23. If all of those shooting estates closed down, what do you think would happen to the land? They are pretty handy places in a lot of senses. Bio diversity and all that. Wheather they are wild or released (and you do actually have 'wild' pheasant shoots now by the way), it's still someones livelihood, and a part of country sports in general. Taking the odd pheasant here or there isnt going to hurt anyone. But raping the place is just going to lead to its failure and its shutting down. There are a lot of normal, working class folk, involved in all aspects of shoots, from the beater
  24. regardless of all this f**king 'us and them' (and don't any of you think that might be something to do with why we're ALL losing our freedom and our sport, that we can't even stop bickering and infighting?!) sh*te, no-one's answered the question of why this is in the 'lurcher' section in the first place?! What's the need?! I'll tell you why, because we've reached the sad state of affairs where some people can't even take a cocker and a terrier out for a walk on which 'accidents happen' (oh really?! ) ffs without taking pictures and running home to show the internet for validation. Pat
  25. just read this whole topic start to finish Ned, and have to say you've opened my eyes to a whole new world of hunting. Just wow...I'll keep reading it as long as you keep writing it!
