  1. bonnie looking pups, when you say excellent breeding, what way they bred? why aren't they KC?
  2. Rob- it's really just how much they are. they're a fairly rare/unusual breed, and your chances of getting one docked/KC/working lines are pretty limited.
  3. you can legally dock cross breeds in england, no problem at all, but in wales it's different, only a specific list of terrier/spaniel breeds (some of which aren't even traditionally docked!!) can be done legally. so the lad advertising has done nothing wrong, it's all above board
  4. understand your feelings totally Mally, but lets try and keep this topic positive for the lads who got such a fantastic result in the face of the RSPCA and Police, ey?
  5. I would favour a springer but it's the lack of giving Tongue that would put me off for working with the lurcher. Deffaintatly will face any cover and will hunt up like a maniac all day long you might be surprised re. giving tongue, my cocker sings like a good'un on fox, but is totally silent on any other quarry. Didn't expect it at all tbh and didn't know what the f**k was happening the first time she done it!
  6. he looks a big lad strong lad- is he KC? what work were parents doing? picking up, peg dogs, rough shooting or...?
  7. loads of really good advice already given but I'd say what's most likely to work if possible is taking a dog who LOVES water along with you on a hot day, get in yourself too (wear waders if you don't wanna go the full speedos!) and play with the confident one in the water, chuck a ball and generally make a big fuss. Odds are the bitch will be too keen to get involved to remember her dislike of taking her feet off the bottom!
  8. for me, I favour a pure spaniel - you can get a better level of obedience from them, there's no cover they won't go through, and they're unlikely to get to ground.
  9. been loads of topics on this recently- the outcome seems to be that some prefer terriers, some prefer terrier x spaniels, and some perfer pure spaniels!
  10. http://www.countrywaysgundogs.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=149:zoe&catid=9:trained&Itemid=55 might be worth a look?
  11. you can't half take a cracking picture Moll!! glad to hear the dogs doing well, he's looking stunning.
  12. contact Dave Templar, countryways gundogs, he's sure to have something suitable.
  13. little smasher- although it looks like he might've got hold of an, erm, 'marital aid' in the first pic what breed's the big curly dog?
  14. what drops did the vet give? what did they reckon it was?
  15. whatever you want to look at everyday for the next 10+ years. either a lab or a springer (or, god forbid, a cocker) would do a good enough job of what you want it for.
  16. mate of mine's got a cocker bitch, 9 years old, had a litter, she had pyometra last week. Ended up having a hysterectomy, nearly died and cost the bloke ££s. Really f**ked him up too. I just think once it gets past the age you can reasonably breed off it, have it spayed and take the risk away. costs f**k all compared to ending up calling the vet out in an emergency and risking the bitches life.
  17. cockador? Work or pet? 350 quid? Sorry, am I on THL or fecking epupz?!
  18. I can't stand dogs that bark for nothing either- next door's lab is forever f**king yapping, and it does my head in. neighbours think saying 'oh do shut up' in a playful way will do something about it however, my cocker will let us know there's someone around with a growl and a couple of barks, and although she's soft as owt and weighs 12kgs wet through she makes a noise like a much bigger dog, whereas my big dog is getting deafer the older he gets, so he doesn't ususally notice!
  19. honest post that. she could do someone grand in a one-man one-dog situation, there's some people who get on very well with a soft dog, and it's big of you to admit that you can't. all the best finding the right home for her.
  20. christ, look at it's fecking coat- imagine that thing in the brambles?! the only sport that thing's capable of must take place on a very shortly mown field! re. crufts, at least HPRs still look like proper dogs, but that's about all that can be said for it.
  21. what's she like with a tennis ball, to start with? is she keen on it/ keen to retrieve? with her background with the rats I'd be wondering how softer her mouth is- does she leave any marks on the ball/show an inclination to chew it? what's she like on walks, does she want to stick with you, but at the same time not worry about getting into cover? Is she busy, but close? if you can give a positive answer to all of the above I'd say you're in with a better chance of getting something out of her. Good luck- let us know how you get on when you've got her.
  22. been thinking alot about this bitch past couple of days. hopefully this doesn't make me a mong, but it'd be my first lurcher- had working spaniels and various others for donkeys years but want a little rabbiting dog now- do you think it'd be an alright dog in that situation?
  23. might need the tip amputating mate if keeps doing it- what have you been wrapping it with? Electrical tape is a really good one, do a layer sticky side up then wrap it around that so it sticks to itself rather than the hair. Had to do it with my undocked spaniel for years so I tried almost everything!
  24. you can also get one that makes a really loud noise when the dog's barking but at a pitch only dogs can hear. i'm not a fan of the citronella ones either for the same reason as above.
  25. real tidy looking pup. what height is she? has she been living in or out?
