  1. very smart! obviously a lot of hard work gone into him, your springer pup will be a doddle after a cocker (I had the springer first and the cocker was a shock to the system! ) try standing with your back to a fence if you want to stop him over-shooting with the delivery.
  2. does anyone have any recent (last 5 years) english or irish springer and/or english cocker champs dvds for sale? would make my day if anyone did!
  3. pm 'mayfly' or 'mrpit' they've got loads
  4. good on your mate for doing what he did with the dog- maybe he should contact one of the breed-specific rescues, I bet they could help him make sure he goes to the right home.
  5. that's an incredibly good price for a pup of that breeding and age with some work put into it- the parents are also health tested which is rare in well bred and proven working/trialling spaniels. have you got him advertised on any of the gundog specific sites? if so, I can't see him being around long.
  6. love that brindle and white bitch, should make a real handy dog for someone, proper alrounder lurchers.
  7. will ask about for you too, know a mate has been involved in bullbreed rescues too, be a real shame not to see her go to the right kind of home as her temp is so good.
  8. yeah bled a lot the first couple of days but that's to be expected, as long as it's looking clean and not swelling or anything you should be alright, it's just once it starts opening you're in trouble as that's when you're back in getting more and more taken off. How short has yours ended up? Shall I have a look if I can find some before and after pics of mine?
  9. thing is you've got to look at the thing everyday, if you like labs and you get a springer you may find you spend all your time thinking 'if he was a lab he'd do this or this'. I have an old springer who's spent most of his life retrieving ducks, he's a very big, old-fashioned type, you don't see him shivering, but a type like that can be hard to get these days.
  10. would she not go into heavy cover to retrieve even if she saw a bird thump down in there and you sent her really quick (almost let her run in)? If no to that I think you might have an uphill struggle on your hands, if she'd do it without thinking about it when her blood's up and she's excited about a retrieve then it's a case of needing something to really draw her in, which a lot of cockers are like, they don't do it just for fun. It sounds like she's much more retrieve orientated than excited to flush- have you maybe made her a bit over-steady, punished her for chasing after a flush or anyth
  11. had the same thing with my cocker, she was 2 and a half when she had hers done in Jan 2012. If you're OCD about keeping it clean and not letting her mess with it it'll heal quick and you won't look back! good luck
  12. went yesterday and froze my tits off, got a few bits and pieces cheaper than I could've otherwise but £12's steep for what's basically a mooch around some market stalls!
  13. have you made sure there's not a physical cause for this? Its unusual for a dog to just start doing it, could be a bladder infection/UTI?
  14. agree 100% with this. a dog with druid as sire/grandsire will be top stuff.
  15. you've had some good advice from the other lads, particularly 'the seeker' but just wanted to add a bit. you say she used to do it- what changed? what does she do if you walk away from her, still encouraging her ('bring it on' or whatever) as she's bringing it back- I got my cocker to retrieve cold game this way as she didn't want me to leave her behind.
  16. parents look cracking, especially the bitch, can't see these pups hanging about long.
  17. be interesting to hear how pups get on of this cross as plenty of folk on here think a bit of spaniel in a lurcher would be a good thing but you don't hear of too many being bred. What work is the spaniel x collie doing?
  18. very very nice! what way's the bitch bred?
  19. that dog pup's a beast, some size on him for ten weeks! feel for you having such a big litter and ending up with so many spare, can't be easy for the bank balance (or the bitch who's probably getting sick of the sight of them too by now!), but they look a credit to you.
  20. I came on to ask the same question having read the ST too - I'd love to see some more pics of his dogs or that type of dogs, and hear more about their work. I wouldn't have thought they'd be ideal in the beating line as I'd have thought the HPR/running dog cross would want to range out, but clearly they suit his work!
  21. it can fcuk up the bitch's seasons big time though...if you want to be able to breed from her in the future I'd give it a miss...
  22. cracking price, what's breeding of the parents?
  23. well south dorset might have everything you're on about, but there's feck all to be seen in the north of the county!
  24. my cocker had her tail amputated at 2yrs old at the end of the last shooting season for the same reasons you're describing. PM me if you want more info.
