  1. that lurcher bitch is the SPIT of a dog my fella had in the 90s. Absolutely my type of dog, I wish I could have her!
  2. the fact it even got in the water impresses me, my old bitch wouldn't take her feet off the bottom for ANYTHING, swan or no swan!
  3. would you swap for a bag of magic beans?
  4. you talk a lot of sense, foxhound45. The very best of luck with your line- there's few things I'd like to see more than the airdale making a resurgance as a viable working dog.
  5. the only staff x springers I've seen have been pet bred nutjobs, so it's hard to say much about their working ability from it, but judging by them and photos online they seem to all get staff-like smooth short coats, rather than a bit more hair/more durable like a spaniel. I'd worry that they wouldn't be as keen on cover, and would rather put some hound blood in.
  6. just re-read the whole lot of this and caught up, as ever, if you write it I'll keep reading it!!
  7. I have a cocker who is the same, always thought she was a one-off, it's good to know there are others the same. She is mute even with 4 thousand pheasants moving ahead of her but sings on a fox. Surprised me the first time, and my heart sank, thinking she was going to start yapping on game, but no.
  8. what a great post, thanks DnN! I'm sure they're necessary, and almost all continental/US hunting pics I see the dogs have a similar arrangement on, but all the collars on ULgecko's 'Clyde', and the pointer looking dog behind look very cumbersome. Do they not cause any problems, looking at the dense cover the dogs are working in?
  9. did you trial her or did Peter run her for you? Did Peter train the other dog, cos if so, what I said about it being PROPERLY fully trained, it will be, he turns out a cracking dog. Get her advertised on some gundog sites, and don't let her go to some dick who'll waste her. Many years of fun left in that bitch!
  10. if she's PROPERLY fully trained AND had meaningful experience on game the price is fair. Has she been shot over a good few times, Andy? just looked up her ped and she's nicely bred enough for a shooting dog, some more unusual names from well established guys. She's a bonnie looker too, not that it should matter, but on looks she's my type of cocker.
  11. those are some ridiculously good prices there! are both/either docked?
  12. great looker, nice for someone to get a collie based lurcher thats not a hancock.
  13. there's a big difference between an excited immature and under-stimulated dog's nipping and aggression. I'd imagine what this dog is doing is the former, as if it was the latter it would be doing more than a 'nip'. My mother in law has a pet staffy, fat old thing that lies in front that fire doing feck all, that dog will come up and nip your hands when you go round there as it's excited, should that be in a hole in the ground! Jesus. That said, I agree 110% that this dog should go to a very specific type of home due to it's breeds and it's background, but I'd say that regardless!
  14. out with one of my spaniels in the dark this eve I started wondering, whats the weirdest/most unlikely breed or cross people have seen or owned that had success lamping bunnies? I'm not talking catching night after night, but anyone tried owt and had unexpected successes? (don't worry, I'm not gonna start lamping the spaniels expecting 'em to miraculously grow the legs of me lurcher )
  15. careful where he goes mate, a blue dog could get put out to stud with all sorts of claims made about him by someone just wanting to make money off his colour.
  16. contact 'lurcher link' - <a data-ipb="nomediaparse" data-cke-saved-href="http://www.lurcher.org/llink.html-%20they%20will%20help%20you%20find%20the%20right%20home%20for%20her.%20(they" href="http://www.lurcher.org/llink.html-%20they%20will%20help%20you%20find%20the%20right%20home%20for%20her.%20(they" re%20not%20antis%20or%20owt%20either,%20they%20rehome%20to%20working%20homes%20if%20suitable%20which%20obviously%20isn't%20with%20your%20bitch%20but%20they%20won't%20give%20you%20a%20hard%20time%20for%20having%20worked%20her)%20i'd%20be%20extremely%20cautious%20about%20giving%20her%20to%20anyo
  17. the price IS high, but it's not at all unusual in cockers. I've seen higher, and I've seen lower. I wouldn't worry about that, but what I'd be more interested in is the bitch line- anyone can go and use one of Opie's FTCh dogs, but all the dog can do is ENHANCE what's already there in the bitch line, it can't make up for or cancel out a poor or mediocre bitch. Dig deep, I'm not casting aspertions on your bitch, she might be amazing for all we know, but that's just it, we don't know, and chucking a FTCh dog's name around shouldn't impress anyone without knowing a lot more about her.
  18. them black and tans look belting foxpack- what cross is the white fella? (I vaguely remember seeing him before, is he russell x beagle or something like that?)
  19. great to see your little hound (and seeing a bushing section! )- I think last time I checked in here you'd just picked her up- she sounds just the job. my sister in law has just got a 3/4 teckel 1/4 mixed terrier dog, he's mint but daft as a brush. but WTF's happened to your wellies?!
  20. interested to hear others opinions, do you take your dogs out for exercise if they're going to be working the night, or do you keep them fresh?
  21. smart pup and parents, but if you're asking £400 that's far far too much for a working dog.
  22. that was what I thought of too- don't see why it needs to be a pure Teckel, a teckel 'type' that had the same qualities could be just as good?
