  1. I bet that stuff is still on his window sill :clapper: You see Ditchy is so hard he does not eat either he decorates his house with it. Yes that stuff is still on his window sill, and still looks the same as it did back then !! This experiment and the subsequent reading have ensured that I will never eat margarine spread ever again. I am a butter man through and through OTC
  2. Maybe the breakway wire link was of the wrong gauge or length? Snareman is quite specific about it being made from 1.75 mm copper OTC
  3. Good work Pat, don't let them escape when you go in to get them or they will never go in again!!! OTC
  4. Who sells the Victor rat traps over here apart from Killgerm?? OTC
  5. God's Speed mate Keep your head down and your chest plates on OTC
  6. Mine are 1 metre x 3mm HT wire, and they work nicely OTC
  7. Why not Stubby?? There is no legislation that I know of that precludes the use of any spring trap for moles so long as they are placed on their underground runs. Whippeter - order one, I would love to see your face when you open the box . . . they are absolutely huge !! I will post a photo later for you to show you just how big they are OTC
  8. I used to use an old postmans bag, it was good and is sadly missed as i lost it during a house move, bigger than most game bags...... you wouldnt know where i could buy one from would you? If anyone knows, I could do with one too. And I could use one as well - any posties on here?? OTC
  9. Holes!! Great tits like holes in walls, trees etc, usually not too high either - below 6 foot most of them Have a look around any old stumps too OTC
  10. I have to say that every squirrel or rat I caught going head first through a chewed hole in the top of a pheasant feed bin onto a waiting Fenn trap was a dead as can be That's not to say that the BG couldn't be just as effective if used wisely OTC
  11. Why not fit a plate to the wires of a BG and sit it flat in the bottom of a square box, the way you could have the best of both worlds? OTC
  12. Have a look through this Roy, this should enlighten you a little http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/index...showtopic=43368 OTC
  13. I have decided to change a few things around in my little room and no longer need these First one is a framed print of a brace of coursing greyhounds with a pair of hares Second is an oil on canvas print of a montage of lurchers - lamping, rabbits and a pair of broken coated beddie or norfolk type lurchers Both are mounted in identical frames. They are large prints - approx 13 x 18 inches. I will take £30 for the pair if you're interested OTC
  14. I am not sure you can still send air guns in the mail Alan, check before you try so it does't get confiscated en route OTC
  15. Whippeter69, When you get the next fox and want to keep his tail, do it this way - Cut all round the tail skin at the base of the tail then split a 30cm piece of hazel about 1cm thick about half way down. Push the split part either side of the tail bone, and hold real tight at each side of the tail. Then pull away from the fox and the bone will pull out of the tail. Then poke it into a bottle of meths for a few weeks - when it comes out it will not smell and will lasy forever OTC
  16. That first magpie is always the hardest to catch Stumpy. Try painting the wire mesh on the larsen black so it 'disappears', sometimes that helps. Maybe someone local to you can give you a call bird? Once you have got one, the rest is easy! Post a few photos up of your see-saw traps would you? OTC
  17. Found a couple more today when I was out taking the dog for a walk The great tits were busy in and out of this hollow elder stump Searched around the tops of a few pollarded willows down by the river for the mallards that usually nest up there and then I spotted her . . . Sitting tight on a clutch of ten which I covered up before I left Plenty of wood pigeons and magpies in the tops of the blossoming blackthorns too OTC
  18. The price looks cheap - but then that astronomical postage cost evens it out somewhat ... OTC
  19. I always fancied one of those - nice and short and very effective Good luck with it! OTC
  20. If this is the case then surely anything with jaws, spring and a trigger device should pass through based on what they have to compare them to. The original replacements for the gin trap banned back in 1958 were tested to the extreme. Their development and approval was an expensive and drawn out procedure. Only the very best of many hundreds of traps submitted were passed through, and then they were the very best that could be engineered AT THAT TIME. Surely modern materials, knowledge and engineering have stepped up a little since the 1950's?? I know that there are traps current
  21. Normally I don't post into such debates but I feel that it is necessary in this case DEFRA have no 'professional' rabbit catchers on their staff, in their research labs, or in their press department. How they can dictate the efficiency of a snare or trap is way beyond the realms of common logic. Perhaps like common business practises, they have swayed to public opinion or for those prepared to line their pockets as so often happens in Governed sub-departments? The fact that certain traps are still on the Humane (?) Traps approval order as legal for use in the UK against pest species,
  22. Let's keep this thread going please - I never tire of seeing the nests and eggs, even if they are common hedgerow birds Thanks for the pics so far OTC
