  1. Maybe you cannot see it in the pictures B2S but there is a double overhand knot in the end of the wire once it has passed through the eye of the tealer. This enables the snare to swivel around prolonging the life of the snare OTC
  2. .... and don't try to hurdle it in full flight at night when you are caught running a dog on ground you shouldn't be on ... Ouch OTC
  3. I have used a similar set up before Rob and there was no problem, especially on frost hardened (or sun baked!) ground. The swivels will be a fine, albeit expensive in large quantities, addition to the snare, and they will make setting it up easier on the wire anchor pins Edited to add: put the loop on your tealer on the other side Rob (towards the run) - that way the wire 'paperclip' will hold a double part of the loop and not pull out when it gets hit by something bigger OTC
  4. Have a good read through the pinned articles on rabbit snaring at the top of this forum for top quality advice from the snareman. Single ply brass is not very durable and will snap once kinked, you need the proper sort of 6 strand brass snares to be fully effective for what you intend to used them for. OTC
  5. its 3mm brass wire but my uncle works building industry and is bringing over 1000 meters of stainless steel what sort of lenght for that mate thanks for the help Is it multi-stranded or cabled brass wire or single ply? Are you sure it is brass and not copper? Steel cable has limited use for rabbit snare making - it is virtually unbreakable but doesn't set or act the same as brass. OTC
  6. What sort of wire have you bought there, my friend? The reason I ask is that most rabbit fence snares are spun from brass wire in shorter lengths unless you know something I don't!! I find the best length for fence snares to be 23 inches OTC
  7. I have a good mate down in Bungay, Rolfe - you should have mentioned the book launch - I am sure that he would have gone along I also have a nice spare copy of the original book 'I Walked By Night' if anyone wants to read the classic before reading this latest book? PM me for details OTC

  10. I have some brand new unused fence snares for sale, they are 6 strand brass with brass eyelets and are 23 inches long Price is £15 for 50 posted I can take cheque but prefer Paypal Orders by PM please OTC
  11. It may well be sparrow trap. Have you tried pushing "funnel" wires to make smaller entrance? Small rats run in and out otherwise. It is a Young's Eclipse sparrow trap Stevie - saved me digging mine out to photograph it for you! It was sold as a sparrow and rat trap - I used mine as a kid to catch sparrows for ferret food - and damn good it was too. OTC
  12. That's interesting Stevie, I have never heard of anyone having much success with them before. Young grey rats will go into anything when they want to but it's the old stagers you need to catch and that's a different game altogether!! OTC
  13. Camies Try a square based trap about 8 inches high with ground funnels rather than top entry, make the funnel cones start quite wide, say 4 inches, and taper down. One entrance per 15 inches of 'side' - that shouild do the trick. If I can get at my Young's Eclipse trap later I will post some photos but I am pretty busy today Don't bother trying with the Monarch or the 'Whole Family' types - they are just the thing for catching the very occasional rat but no good at all for numbers or persistent problems. Keep at it OTC
  14. I have taken full advantage of the sloes this year - I have got 5 full demijohns steeping away so far to make sure I don't run out like I did last year! OTC
  15. You're very welcome Joe, now let's see some photos of your successes with them! OTC
  16. I have seen plenty of blacks and a few gingery ones but not a white one, I would be interested to see it OTC
  17. Cam Think bigger moles, bigger holes and bigger traps - not Talpex - they are for Victor Out O' Sight traps which are twice the size of a Talpex Yanks do tend to overcomplicate things unnecesarily too - simplicity is the key when trapping anything OTC
  18. Met quite a few folks on my travels - all of the Royals (except Edward), Sean Connery, cannot quite think right now Been out lamping with Robert Plant from Led Zep a few years back too Oh, and some chap called Plummer who had this mediocre merle collie cross lurcher once, he was an odd sort ... OTC
  19. Well done Whip, you cannot beat the 20 bore for that sort of thing - I have had mine for 25 years now and would never part with it OTC
  20. Block all the holes and trap the opened up ones - or long net them between their holes and feeding ground if you aren't competent with snares OTC
  21. Allways look on the bright side of life!! yer aint really looking on the brightside of life this time but its bugging me i just wanna see if any one else as thought of it Isn't it 9 9 tomorrow not 9 99??? Stop being paranoid OTC
  22. I see John Underwood has started making them too http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/TOP-ENTRY-MULTICATCH...id=p3286.c0.m14 OTC
