  1. E Tinsley & Co - it looks like it has been double stamped making it more difficult to read Tinsley was an iron wares retailer from the Black Country
  2. But then would that also mean that the AIHTS cleared traps were also legal for vermin other than stoats? What a mess this all is ...
  3. I wonder if DB Springs are aware of all this ... ? Is it likely that if they ban the Mk4 then the Mk3 would remain approved as it is no longer manufactured ...?
  4. I have found some lovely traps coated in black paint, many were done a long time ago to go into the inglenook or on the pub wall. What I have found is that the paint often (but not always!) has protected the underlying trap from corrosion. I have used NitroMors to remove paint, but modern paints, and red oxide and Hammerite in particular, are very stubborn to remove properly.
  5. If someone could provide a coherent response aligned with the law and the likes of DEFRA, APHA, NE then they are better than me. As for the formality of testing traps, the subject of clones, clarity on tunnel construction, setting and checking regs for different species, obstruction of Scheduled animals (hedgehogs, polecats and soon, stoats) .... Well it is simply too confusing to the layman, and it won't be long before someone is charged for some infringement of law Any offers?
  6. Good post RB DEFRA said that no trap that had ever been passed and listed on the STAO had ever been removed, perhaps this will generate a shake up of the legislation and the confusion surrounding both the process and the law?
  7. Eds, your mole trap is not old, but some that look very similar are. Most were mass produced and not named by the maker, but some are.
  8. Eds, welcome to the trap collecting gang ... It looks like you have three gins from the 1930-40s era there, one by Defiance, one by Sidebotham and one by Glover. DO NOT use brick cleaner, vinegar, citric acid, shot blasting, caustic solutions etc as you will remove the patina and devalue them by about % Put them in hot soapy water and carefully brush off all of the loose surface rust and dirt. Use fine wire wool on the Galv plate but not too rigorously as it will go too shiny. For the metalwork, use a small steel wire brush, not a rotary brush, a hand held one, and only clean off t
  9. And by the same token if they will 'ban' Springer No.4 and Solway No.4 traps as well as the Fenn Mk IV ...
  10. I wonder if they will 'ban' the Fenn Mk 1, 2 or 3 vermin traps at the same time?
  11. But the squirrel is not on the European 'protected' list is it?
  12. I will get some little signs made for the entrance to my tunnels - NO STOATS allowed - so that weasels, rats and squirrels can enter but stoats stay away ;-)
  13. I found a teddy bear in one of my wires once ...
  14. They're black grouse on the front of the card - is that what you mean?
  15. I can tell you it is a 3" Lane's patent from 1920 if it helps?
  16. Tell me honestly that you don't look in them when you walk past ...?
  17. I went out on the scrounge last week round a couple of skips and found enough wooden boards to make up half a dozen trap boxes, and I even found a 1/3 bucket of fence paint to paint them with once made ... I have never found anything valuable though ...
  18. Wendy James - Transvision Vamp ....
  19. Perhaps we need an up to date video or book, showing legal methods of trapping and snaring mink! Alot has changed in th e last 30 years or so, regarding what is within the law, and what is not! Yes it all needs clearing up, a book would be a great venture since a lot has changed over the years, equally a DVD or suchlike would also be of great use to show the ways and means of the modern trapper
  20. Thanks Darcy The silver one is the original prototype with the full sized plate, the japanned one is the production model. They made the same in 5 inch (Mk 4 ) size too OTC
  21. I will dig a couple out over the weekend and post pics
  22. Eddie Steve knows all about the trap and has covered most of it above The traps were made in Taiwan and imported to Northwoods in the US. I have examples of the prototypes and production model in both sizes. Fenn was not too happy about them copying his design but was powerless to do much about it to be honest. OTC
  23. Thank you John So surely one type of 110 size bodygrip would be 'equivalent' to another? And it would follow that one type of 116 would be the equiv of another type, and so raises the question of why bother approving the Duke 116 when it is equiv of BMI 116 anyway? And why reduce the number of target animals for one type than the other. It makes absolutely no sense at all
