Collarum And Belise Foot Snare ?
OldTrapCollector replied to Wolfdog91's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
Not quite ... A bespoke variation of the Aldrich was approved for use by a single person, for a single use, but he's dead now! It is similar but not the same as the production model What was the single use he was approved for? Catching the one thing that MAFF refuse to admit exists ... -

Here's A Nice Old Old Trap ...
OldTrapCollector replied to OldTrapCollector's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
I don't want to set it to show you in case it breaks. Basically, the Spring is depressed by pulling on the top handle, which allows the treadle paddle to locate in the notches at the rear of the trap. The trap is pushed into the ground using the rear spikes with a foot, once set, over a collapsed mole run. Once triggered, the five spikes on either side push through the soil to impale Mr Mole -
I never usually 'show and tell' with traps from my collection, but I thought that this old mole trap I got recently might get you 'moudie-men' a bit excited ... Dating from mid-1800s, all hand forged OTC

Fineren Body Grip Trap
OldTrapCollector replied to shropshire mole's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
I have been trialing similar trap boxes with JDarcy recently, as well as others to support a different trap altogether. Those squirrels just can't help themselves but go inside -
He has more patience than me for snaring those old bushy tails, that's for certain ...

Moaning About Mole Catching, Topics ?
OldTrapCollector replied to earth-thrower's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
Maybe, just maybe, some folk are fed up with posting new ideas for others, who take them and use them as their own without giving much back in return. Such practises are the main reason that many of the worthy contributors on here have either left completely or sit in the shadows. Those that know, know, but there is always room to improve your game, especially with new traps, or new initiatives. -
A Couple Of Mornings Trapping........
OldTrapCollector replied to J Darcy's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
A fair couple of days, you are learning well - just a few less left-on safety catches and the apprentice will soon be catching up with the master ... Nice to have successfully trial led my new ideas too OTC -
Like you did off me Gamerooster? You still owe me, and I don't forget

Friesian Live Traps.
OldTrapCollector replied to Mr Muddy's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
The trap in the pic above is a Fresian Trap - I had one in my collection a long time ago but it went when I rationalised and down-sized They were trialled by MAF here, many years ago, but found to be ineffective (as do most 'live catch' mole traps) as the mole dies quickly once captured -
Looks like a Nelson Boode Trailzend trap from the USA

Well let's see ... Has anyone got a British trap that they don't think I will have seen? I would love to be challenged! OTC

Perhaps I should write a book or something one day ...

PlumbBob was a brand made by TONKS in Wednesfield around 1940-50s I am looking for more unusual animal and bird traps really - keep looking
-
Yes they made them until the 80's, I saw some for sale in the Middle East that looked brand new a couple of years ago

All it says on the brass tongue is 200A. 200A was a Tinsley & Co catalogue number, it would have had a fully galvanised bridge piece, slightly better quality than the standard types OTC
-
The KILLER stamped traps were actually made and sold in Germany, it is not a British trap, but follows the same design OTC
-
Sorry, I have not been on THL for a while ... Yes, it is a 4 inch jaw gin trap, made by W&G Sidebotham's in Wednesfield circa 1940. They stamped a multitude of retailer's names and numbers on them, I cant quite make out the name on the brass tongue on that one in your pic though, or I would tell you about that too ... OTC

No I have a different address for you to send it to - send me a PM. I have no intent to air my laundry in public, but equally I dont take kindly for being taken for a ride
-
Oh, nice to see you back Gamerooster ... perhaps you would do me the decency of replying to my PM? If you empty your inbox then I can send you another if you have misplaced it. I wondered when you would pay me back for what you owe me?

I am also using Rustoleum on my traps, Fenn types and BGs and it is working well. Take care not to coat the trigger surfaces though or traps can be hard to set, or hard to fire

More than once ... and on more than one type of trap ...
