Sounds to me like a good beddy/whippet will do the job your looking for, have you talked to people on the working bedlington forum.... there's also a few on there with 3/4 bedlington 1/4 whippets. http://www.workingbedlington.co.uk/index.php

BORDER COLLIE VS BEARDIE COLLIE!!!!!
canaliculata replied to kimbokenneth's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Guess that's Cleared that up about ' don't mix border and beardie as you will get a shite lurcher? Lol Old (reds) a good en mate ain't he Chris I know hancock gets some stick, but the beardie border i had from him years ago really hit the mark, it just came so natural to him, didnt realise what a good dog he was until i had to replace him.....so laid back at home as well. -
BORDER COLLIE VS BEARDIE COLLIE!!!!!
canaliculata replied to kimbokenneth's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
I personally like a dash of beardie as well as border in the mix. Where i hunt there isnt a great deal of game and i have found that some border collie lurchers can become board and find something else to do, where as a touch of beardie seems to do wonders and sort of give them the drive to look for a scent. In saying that it may be something that is particular to certain lines of collies, because some pure working collies still hunt hard for a scent when there isnt much about, when others would sooner pic up a stick and play with it. Some border collies certainly have more drive to find scen -
What a cracker, nice deep chest.

Lovely, how tall?

Whippets or lurcher, find one thats been well bred and you'll go far wrong if entered right. If i had to pick i would go lurcher every time. I prefer a lurcher with a good dense waterproof coat and skin that doesn't need stitching too often. I'm not too keen on a lot of these tall whippets, i much prefer the smaller ones around 18 -20 inch, these tend to run and turn much better. Lots of pedlers in the whippet game, so be careful.

Lovely...good for you, im sure you know what your doing, i knew somebody would piss on your parade. Really gets on my tits when people start ranting on thinking they know better when they've only been in the game two minutes.

Whippets finding, flushing and catching

Hard work catching them milky does... keep at it. -
Dont trust your other dog with your pup, end of. Like you said, eyes like a hawk. All dogs take differently to a pups, like mally i find a good size cage invaluable. Other than that just use your own judgement. Enjoy.

Dont think he would breed from rubbish,, and he still breeds kelpie lurchers...serious dog bloke, pointless knocking him.

How do i make my 7 month old lurcher wanna run ?
canaliculata replied to Shaun Baker's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Good advice -
I have had hancock dogs, one great one good, after these two i decided to look else where and get a worker to worker lurcher. I dont like the all idea of puppy farming, but i have changed my views some what after recently looking for a puppy. I still dont agree with puppy farming, but on the other hand 90% of everybody else i encountered that were breeding litters didnt have a clue what they were breeding from or what they were doing. I would have another, but if i knew somebody well that was breeding worker to worker i would have one of these as my first choice.

Yes there was a question there, im not out for a bitchy debate....
-
I can understand your point.... , just float some peoples boat, and i totally agree there are better out there if you are just wanting one dog for day and night. My new pup is bed/whip x collie/grey/whippet, shes only a small 17 inch at 6 months, but she will work with my 2 jack russells and my aging collie/greyhound. If i was only to have one lurcher i would have choosen differently.

Well a straight Beddy wont catch you many rabbits and a straight Whippet won't work the cover like a beddy.................................... Well, that's what I mean, mate... A Beddy will bush, ferret, go to ground. A Whippet will ferret, lamp and take a few day time. A Beddy/Whippet won't go to ground like a Beddy, catch as many rabbits daytime or on the lamp as a Whippet, so what's the advantages of a Beddy/Whippet x over a pure Beddy or Whippet ? A Beddy x Whippet WON'T do what it's parents will do..it may do a job, but imho, won't do it as good ! Cheers. Cheers. But

Only set back ive seen with alot of beddy/whippets is the poor coats a lot seem to have. I was out with a fella last season and he was working a cracking little bedlington whippet and a pure whippet. It had been pissing it down all morning and his beddie/whippet was freezing its nutts off, its coat just soaked up the rain. In all fairness it didnt stop it working one bit, the whippet on the other hand had no coat and wasnt shivering half as much as the beddie/whippet.

Mally quote:>>>>>>>> "If the working whippet breeders keep breeding like there doing it will be them responsible for ruining the breed mate, there breeding everything a whippet shouldn't be, and breeding from dogs with known faults and breeding mother x son etc etc. As for breeding hardblood whippet, i just can't see the point in that." When i was on the look about for a working whippet pup not long back i looked on the obvious site, i talked to a few people, but soon realised that they seem to breed a few plus litters each year, they were asking around £350 - -
My pup is bedlington/whippet x collie/greyhound/ whippet..... fingers crossed......only small at moment though...17 inch 6 month.

I couldnt believe how hard it was to find a genuine breeder of lurchers, most of them weren't even keeping a pup and wanted silly money, not to mention talked rubbish about the breeding. Now working whippets...dont get me started on this. The amount of people that have jumped on that band waggon the last 10 years.....its not about the money though....ask anybody on the whippet forum they'll tell you that, thats if they can take time away from their whelping bitches.

Its not the dog mate...it'll turn out to be a cracker. Who cares if it licks the cage...come on. Its all down to patience and entering. Im bringing a little pup on at the minute, she's also not always keen to come to hand. I know many years back i expected the world from my young little whippet, i used to read stories in the shooting news by Garry Hosker, all those rabbits he used to catch with old Spud, god i envied him and his dog. As years past i realised that all the faults in my whippet were down to my lack of experience, he turned out a very good dog in the end, he never had the catc
