    Inspection of traps Section 10 of the Protection of Animals Act 1911 places a duty upon any person setting a spring trap to catch a rabbit or a hare to inspect the trap at least once a day between sunrise and sunset. Failure to do so is a summary offence punishable by a £200 fine (level 1). See the Protection of Animals Act 1911.

    I think VAT has caught them up !! I use their new claw traps and they are excellent. I think they are actually better than genuine Talpex. The steel of the frames is thicker (less twist)and has rounded edges being made from bar rather than being stamped out, there are washers between the frames so they move better and the spring is excellent. They also sell setting bars for people who have a problem with the spring strength but I find them very easy to set by hand or resting one side on the ground.     Ive got some Flatpack Claw traps but not tried them much yet as it has been a bit quiet mole wise just lately. Just had one or two out and caught the odd mole so far but seem just as good as Talpex if not better. They have springs just as strong as Talpex and are made from thicker steel bar, they also have washers between the moving frames which seems like a good idea. looking forward to giving them a good go when the mole activity picks up a bit.     The speed dip in my limited experience is very effective and no doubt protects and camoflages traps very well but I have found two minor issues with it: Firstly traps need to be well weathered before applying it. I had some brand new ones which I boiled in bicaronate of soda but the trap dip still came off when the traps were used. Secondly the manufacturers recommend using coleman fuel to dilute the dip I use. This costs a fortune in this country. Second best is unleaded petrol but this can tend to leave the coating a bit tacky for quite a long time especially with multiple layers. However

    The land around where I live was covered with between 6 inches and 2 feet of water. In large areas you could not see the land for several days. Within a week of the water receding there was mole activity and within a month or so you could not tell the difference. Come autumn/winter when you could see a lot of the land properly there appeared to be no difference at all, just as many mole hills as before.     Hello mate, welcome to the site. Taking your mole questions in order but bear in mind these are wild creatures so they do not have a rule book. Moles do not hibernate, they are active all year round. They need a lot of food (earth worms mostly) to keep them going as they do not store fat on their bodies. Mole tunnels tend to follow the worms if the digging is not too hard so tunnels will generally be where the worms are. In frosty or dry conditions worms will tend to go deeper so the moles will follow. If a trap is not well set moles can detect it and will fill or avoid it. Th

    I have the hushpower pedretti, so know what your up against, I reckon a 40mm pipe bracket will slip right over that, a small piece of wood bolted across will secure it to the barrel/mod, then fix the laser/torch bracket to the wood, give it a spray of black paint when finished, no one would be any the wiser, Nice one Stubby, I can see a visit to B&Q on the horizon.     Ah, nice idea Stubby, will look at that. I have got several different barrel mounts for Lasers, torches etc but they are all far to small for the 40mm moderated barrel on my gun but thanks for the contribution. All the best AF

    Sorry to labour the point but has anyone got any ideas for a simple mount? The shrouded barrel of my moderated 410 is about 40mm diameter so any light, laser etc would have to be mounted on there. Thought of fixing a weaver rail on to the top and bottom of the barrel but how? Jubilee clips are a bit crude, would tie wraps hold tight enough? Could the moderator shroud be drilled and tapped to screw them on or would this be dangerous to interfere with the moderator? All the best AF

    Saw a clip of video recently with someone shooting rats at night using what looked like a 410 fitted with a torch and a laser. Seemed to be quite successful. Has anyone tried this? any ideas how to fix the lamp and laser other that tape. I quite fancy the idea of pimping my moderated 410 but not sure how to do it. All the best AF

    Very interesting. I wonder how difficult they would be to make. I assume the one in the book uses a MK4 as this is what most people use on sqirrels? Wonder if it could be made for a MK6 as they are a bit more boss of the job? All the best AF
