    With regard to the ferrets, it works both ways. The dog needs to be steady with the ferrets, but the ferrets also need to be steady with the dog. Probably my most used command when ferreting is 'wait'. Which I guess is my version of stay. I think he means that during the working season, when working flat out, the only 'conditioning' he does is through working them, as the time when they are not being worked, they need the time to rest and recuperate.     I run field n fen and both reqiire dif things from a mutt , on the fen i say they are bigger test as there no hedges to bring the hare back it a true test of speed stam, n mental stam not to give up n have the brain to use gears n work the hare. The hare aint limit to space so you realy see em run. Fields I find a faster dog do well on em but I find the hare doesnt run at it full potental

    In your opinion socks, what different training methods would you use for a coursing dog and a lamper ? There are lots of differing opinions, some lads i know just run them fit, at start of season and are out quite a bit and just build them up week by week. Another couple of different fellows i know, run them quite young and try and build an inbuilt stamina in them from pups, not everyone agree,s with there methods but works for them. The lads i,m on about are just lampers. Some other folk keep them ticking over all summer by biking or behind motor.Cant speak for sock but for our corsers we run

    how many on ere even hunt in season n not talkin about the Sunday hunter I mean 4-5-6 and if mad keen 7 times a week.     Out of interest how long have they not eaten for when you lamp them? That morning or the night before? Cheers. night before ive seen one or two dogs collapse on nights out and start fitting and they have all been run on right empty stomachs.Seen few myself. Dont get why anyone wud think they run betta starved.     Way slower and really cant be released hardly at all once heart rate is increased to a certain point. Its a resting energy release for the most part. In the human body fat is only used as a source of energy when carb sources are depleted. That's why long slow running over 30 minute is recommended in humans for losing weight. In dogs IMO the days leading to a hunt should be carb based so that the dog can store energy sources then when finished the hunt a high protein feed for recovery.
