Cracking looking pups. Nice to see the bitch in good health aswell in the pic in yard. how that blue and tan one coming on off the pure. He looked like was shaping up for a strong dog

Collies have a very good recovery rate that hopefully gets passed on. Salukis are bred for long range runs like kenyans running for water lol it not uncommon to try blend the collie grey saluki grey for a more bidable versitle dog but thats when it works out haha.. like any other cross it can also go horruble wrong

does nt quite work like that bud wish it was. We tried a few times but they were nt up to much. The collie x bitch was top notch at her job and the bull x was pure drive and determination but the offspring were neither of the two. It seemed to dilute the gameness they were selecting holds and holding back . And they were a bit heavy to run small game . Not for me I'm afraidThats only one litter tho. I just put that down to failed attempt. Not something to base a whole opinion on a x. Maybe the two bloods from them lines didnt work out. Not all dogs are producers. Loads to take into account.

First Cross To Second Cross, What To Expect?
paulsmithy83 replied to ROB.BOB's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/topic/339989-half-cross-to-half-cross-advice-wanted/?do=findComment&comment=3913503 have a look on here thread with simular question. Just diff breeds but process same -
The bull cross is no magical x there is just as many fail in this cross if not more then there is real good uns or even average. Just like any other x you can have all the breeding you want and the right man behind the lead but there no gurrantees just pot luck. If they aint got the right mental trait to want to do them then they wont simple as really. Redardlees what breeds in the dog. Individual mental trait. Not what breed is in it.

FUJI altho ypu minshaws are heavy collie saturated they not just collie and grey i think this makes a huge difference to straight 5/8 collie greys or heavey collie sat col/greys That infusion of beddie/bull/deerhound/saluki goes a hell of a long way. It would be intresting if don was just 5/8 collie 3/8 grey i wonder if you would of had just as capable dog ???? As by acounts don doesnt really have any limits. Apart from one eye now
-
If was ferreting i would get straight collie grey for mooching and stuff like that where nose and decision making is a must it would be my pick but otherwise it have to be a mix of breeds with collie popping in there in small amounts. Something like collie/saluki/grey or collie/bull/grey or blend of both are alot better dogs then straight collie grey types imo

My bro bred a litter that he gifting all out with combo of all the breeds but also bit of beddie aswell from in the coursing stuff that was used. Sire and dam are top notch tbh. think they about 6 weeks old. All were claimed before was born. Been a big variety to how they thrown. Even at 6 weeks you can see clear differences. Most uneven litter ive come across in terms of visual looks and structure. Be interesting to see how they grow now and see if they will even out. 4 cleary look saluki types dominate features and stuff 2 others just look like normal lurcher pups but wooly types but there

Spot on

Im not putting human concepts into a dog. Confidence or something at least possitive happens in a dogs head. The reward of the catch and all. How many threads on here are there of failing dogs and they all ususlly have one theme. Pushed to hard to young and got all sort of problems. tell me casso what is a dog thinking when it pulls up at a hedge. Tell me what a dog is thinking when it pulls up at all. Who knows really. Anyone who pretends to Unfortunatly need there own head checking. Its all educated quess work lol im in not educated to guess haha some dogs are built up on success not all but

I expect alot from my dogs and people who been out with me know this but havimg said that you start with basics and work up. O could be out all night and see 200+ rabbits a night but quarramtteed my dog ypungster will only run 4-5 Never skip a section in its learning. As the nights progress longer more challanging slips. Its reason so many kennels full of jacked or disheartened dogs. To many asking to much from to young. Give the time to let them learn correctly and confidently and have a much better dog in the end. Craft comes easy to a dog if out enough well any with half a brainWhen someone

Agree morton with young dog do all you can to favour the dog and giving a rabbit 50 yards start is not doing so. Op alot have gave you some great advice. Start again next season try do what alot have said by making it easier for dog and it and you will learn.....

For Sale 3/4 Collie Grey Hancock Silver Merle
paulsmithy83 replied to Polkey's topic in Working Dogs & Livestock
I hope he gets a good home and least you been honest about the dog. My bug bear is i was always taught by greyhound vet neutering male dogs increase injury risk more so bone and ligement injuries. The hormones made by nuts have a large effect on the body. For average joe pet thats fine but could hinder a working dog. But looks a nice type hopefully someone decent take him on. All the rearing being done. -
Dogs Can Get You In The Shit ........
paulsmithy83 replied to socks's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
I had a few issues because of the roe. Had an estate head keeper show me round and said take anything you want off here but leave the roe. We like to have a few on here. I said no problem. I assumed he must charge to shoot em or something along those lines. We saw a fox on our travels and he told slip my bitch if want see if she line it, so off she goes.. The fox took into the woods. My bitch follows, bit of banging and crashing then all sudden two roe and my bitch come screaming out. Bit of a course in field then bam she pulled him down only 30 odd feet away from us. Not a good start. As then -
Agree think it individual mental trait. They either do em or dont. Not much difference to humans not everyone has the heart to step in a ring its just how it is and sooner or later the time comes everyone has enough. Dogs very similar. Not machines but liven and breathing

In all honesty what could you get from a sapling trial?only the basics, any half bred mongrel will show basics at 18 months of age,few of them will show anything like their breeding until at least their second season, the best of mutts seldom come into their own until they have had at least 3 seasons under them.Ill agree that a youngster may show promise at 18 months, promise is often a veil many mutts hide assunder. I suppose it depends what has been said of the dog. It's a bit of a blind area for me as I have never bought an adult running dog. If i'd been told that it was just start

Doesnt the chipping only apply to greyhounds or is ireland now saying lurchers aswell.
-
I always thought it individual mental temp not breed choice for teeth they either like charlie or dont. Plus entering and there early experiences are key factor to getting the best chance to get onto a winner.
-
With both types there are negatives and possitives. What i dont get is people knock the saluki saying there cowards when in real facts most are that driven they hardly think about them selves. Yes you get nervy types but same for the collie they can be same. Even with right blood its pot luck in a cross what you gonna get. As long it tries hardest run after run thats all that counts. Any picking runs . Turning off on the hedge . Is not for me. We all have preference and what suits our own temp. Seem some grand ones a merry of all the bloods collie/saluki/bull/grey just pot luck tho

J price ran a bitch called heidi she was bred out of coursing bred bitch and her sire was a bull grey to bull grey dont know percentages just gen to gen bred. Heidi was true class 40+ bunnies mop up hares. Deer in the day. Take fox. real natural runner. Was 26tts had everything. I think she died hitting a grass roler that was hidden in reeds. Had staying power of the saluki with pure grit of the bull.

Fair Play To This Man, As I Could Not Do It..lol
paulsmithy83 replied to Saluki246's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Look like them pointer husky crosses. Got some wind in them by look of the vid. Sprinting around in the fields then carrying on biking not even blowing or breaking stride -
For rabbits i dont think the cross matters just get something to suit the field size you run and type of land. IMO its all about good breeding and the most important ingredient is you . Put all the time into it and it will show. That with abit of luck should be fine.
