Ruptured Cranial Cruiate Ligament
paulsmithy83 replied to LurcherLad94's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
I wouldnt run him again after this kind of injury. I bet the vet told you it is also prone to re injury most recommend lead walks for running dogs after op due to the risk in re injury. As lurchers/sighthounds put them under more strain then any other breed type. Not something i would want to risk after a £1000 op pet pts is the right option -
Yep get a pup to thrive. Lessons and mind games with food can come in adult life when there body is more stable. Like you said you can slowly introduce foods anyway.
-
Let the pup go hungry Steve when it's hungry it will eat what's in the bowl.Just leave it like king said.it will eat once its hungry enough.I wouldnt do that with a saluki type yes it may eat when its hungry but that could be 3-4 days down the line . To much weight will be lost in a saluki type in that time. It could have a good feed and then be the same and not eat again. It much more practical to find what the dog likes a just go with that. I wouldnt do anything to hinder progress or growth of a pup

Have you tried feeding a quality dry food such as Iams or Purina? The more expensive dry foods are meat based, which means that meat is the main ingredient. Alpha is, I believe, cereal based. You can mix a bit of tinned food in to soaked dry food, which will give it the flavour the pup is used to. Then gradually reduce the amount of tinned food. How old is the pup anyway?the pup is 9 weeks there abouts ,he is heavy saluki based so I was expecting a picky pupTry cooking the meat for her but make sure all juices go in the bowl. I have a fussy eater with raw here. Only was she eat it tidy is if

They never fully retire tho buddy in there mind. You watch even in few yrs if get sofa life you put your boots on she be straight at your side wanting to go. Thats the hardest part of retiring old ones is having to leave them behind

Lamping Dog (Key Attributes)
paulsmithy83 replied to Blueboybilly's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
A lot of us do it that way , got more advantages then negatives -
Seen whippets take some nasty injuries usually when they hit something you know your counting the £££ into vets hand. Some dogs are naturally strong and can take a knock. This cant always be seen clearly by physical attributes. Like someone said it just pot luck to how durable your dog will be all we can do is never breed of injury prone dogs and hope for some luck in that department.

Gaz any joy on comparison vid lol -
They thrive on heavy work loads mine the more i do the more stable and consistant she is. They aint a simple walk few mile round the block type. Mine will try 100% bust a gut style. Really full on prey drive but out the field a pleasure to be around also. She the only one that comes in the van with me to work. Very very loyal.
-
Battery life issue aint to much problem as they do a corded version. That better option for me not because im out all night just scared of the dark if it ever ran out. Them fields can get dam lonely 10 mile awsy from the car lol not a reference to how far i go either just cant read a map so get lost alot haha

Be good to see a vid of a comparison of the beams. Dnt hqve to be on quarry just to show what they can do. Is there a review out there showing it ??
-
Well said most who recon these types plod show there inexperience to the type. There one of the fastest types of dog imo. they need out right electric pace to even bend a hare on fens. Then its all about stamina and running ability. Just to much is said by guys who never ran a fen hare before. And due the types look of easy of runnning style knock them down. My coursing juk behind the quad at 30-35mph look like it trotting when me others types look to be motoring.

Your have to do some comparision pics of the beams. You can normally find them on youtube but none for these led ones. Be good to see the beam in action.

Lamping Dog (Key Attributes)
paulsmithy83 replied to Blueboybilly's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Retrieve is right up there aswell as a dog with manners. Hate dogs being called back on slip or no retrieve. Then as long they jump fences and gates its all about catch to run ratio. My dogs is used for variety of lurcher work but i do like that she doesnt hunt up and even tho saluki saturated is really bidable. So can work her off slip if need hands to carry catch. Supose it personal preference. -
You been in the game long enough so i ask you this. Your snipe could kill a range of quarry on a range of land day or night. Now did that come natural to him or do you think it was about the chances and education you gave him. Would he have killed all around with an owner only running one type of ground all the time and occationally seeing another type of land. Most knock the fen dog but forget they are a lurcher and if brought up and given the chance and same education would run well on other ground.
-
Alot of dogs capable of running the fens well should have the ability to run any where else if given the CHANCE the fen dog aint no amazing thing it just a dog that normally is only ran on the fens so becomes experienced to that. Many field dogs can run fens aswell if given the chamce and vice versa. It called a good lurcher lol nothing more nothing less. Should be able to run field and fen is worth having in kennels. Fu#ck one trick poneys

I was orginally told by a game keeper year or so ago about it who was doing his law degree and one places he was on placement had a case in which he was involved in. most convictions are from lose lips in field not knowing the act or telling em in interview. If feel they have you buy the nuts. You can also claim statory defence that you thought your way was excempt to the act. If you claim this defence prosecution have to prove other wise that you knew your way was illegal. Good luck with that one lol There are so many loop holes to the act any half decent brief should rip the cps and police

Never make your record ? So youll never lose a firearms licence or fail a CRB / DBS check for a job of done for poaching ? Something I do worry about. I never go poaching tho cos I'm a good lad not like you crooked lot on here lol Tresspass in persuit does go on your record and is seen like any other conviction if it has bearing on the job your being checked for it will show but the hunting act one doesnt. Its the only law i know of in this country thats like it.

Itching To Get Out... Am I Wrong..??
paulsmithy83 replied to Sweeney's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
farmers say go ya gotta go bud Then that's different but none of the farmers Iv got permission off have ever got onto me in the summer n Iv got a few farms..they've usually got sheep lambs n bullocks out anyway so would prefare them bein left in piece plus if arable that's up anyway.I don't see a prob gettin a sapling a couple here n there when poss for gettin em going but can't for the life of me see any benifit in taking an adult dog out in August just killing there own sport n the dog gains nothing, not something that bothers me mind just don't see the point.. lol most use the pest contr -
Mint when they do something in sheer desperation. Had all sort happen when out even to the sort of rabbit run up a tree. Like he done it a million times. These the runs i like. Good pic jd

Theres loads of loop holes in the hunting act you just need a good brief if caught. Ive been arrest 2 times but never charged and never lost motor but i have lost my motor with trespass laws. These are the big issues when poaching. Dessert bred got it spot on the hunting act isnt even a real conviction can get caught 100 times charged and everything and it will never make your criminal record. That i know for certain
