  1. My first lurcher 17-18 years ago, all i used him for was rabbits. I was out lamping on my own and lamped a hare and let him go at it. It turned once and he caught it, i felt terrible after it.......and i've never lamped or hunted a hare since.....but thats just me. Happy hunting folks.
  2. Great to see Rory Best getting the call!!!!!!
  3. Anyone watch this? It's got to be one the best programs i've watched for a long time. Uncle Si is hilarious
  4. Well done mate!!!! Sounds like you had a great time.
  5. It's post like these that encourage you to give night time longnetting a go. Thanks tiercel
  6. We keep a few pairs of fife canaries and whenever they have chicks in the nest they always seem to thrive if we can get dandelions for the parents when they are feeding them. We collect them just before they open up and then cut the head of them to reveal a little cup full of seeds. The canaries just love them and on occasions the odd one would take them from your hand.
  7. Lovely looking fish there. Well worth getting wet over!!!!!!
  8. No way Albert, that's definitely not for me Where's that closet?.....hope there's room in it for me to too!!!
  9. When you said you didn't mind digging i thought you were politely saying "leave the digging to me". Hey!! thats gratitude for you.....you try and help someone by letting them do the things they enjoy and then they slag you of for it. Just glad we didn't have to do any digging in that graveyard the other day
  10. Are you crazy Sammy? It's taken me nearly two years to get my dog to chase a plastic bag!!!!!! To sit, retrieve and other obedience skills......phew.....no way mate....that's way out of my league.......i'll leave that to the real hunting men
  11. I simply cannot understand how anyone can hunt without their dog being at least fairly well obedience trained. Still at four dogs - where are ALL of these trained working lurchers? Albert surely by now you've figured it out that most of these 'solely' hunting folk are just a bunch of moans. They moan about the showing.....they give off about the racing and then you and others put on events for them to show off their dogs skills and guess what.....they clear off and hide in their closets!!!!!
  12. Contact vermin catcher on here. He's from belfast and has lots of orange poly spun for sale. Tell him i put you on to him and he'll give you them for a good price
  13. Left mine in the morning and collected in the late afternnon. One vets says keep him away from a jill for 6 weeks another 3 weeks but being impatient me i put him with my jills after two weeks and everything was fine. Brought them out of sesason and no kits were born. He thinks he's a male ferret porn star as he has done 12 jils and counting.
  14. Have been on the receiving end when the dogs didn't wear muzzles in the past.....it can turn out very nasty!!!!! All the very best with the show....though hope it's not just as warm as last year.
  15. Great wee show. Wasn't a massive turn out but there's a lot of shows and events coming up over the next lot of weeks. Enjoyed the few hours i was there. Relaxed and chilled, talkings dogs, hunting and catching up with people in general. Great to see that the racing didn't take too long and the heats were in quickfire succession. Got home early to watch the 2nd half of the Irish Cup Final. Made use of the portaloo......i apologise to anyone who ventured into after me!!!!!!!!
  16. well said dee... look at the end of the day most of the people who argue on here about shows are really more worried who won a race or a rosette...not what there dog done during the winter months.... a lurchers real test is in the field twisting turning and hopefully catching there quarry...and if its a lurcher used for fox control then yes a quick dispatch is also very important for it to be done humanely... and if its a terrier then he should be out in the wind, the rain sleet snow, living for what he was meant to do and that is to face a very worthy advisary underground..... Now vermin
  17. soon as they put the word WORKING dog show. then yes the show should be for workers.....if its to race and argue with 1 another which seems to be happening every summer...just call them dog shows and cut the word WORKING out of the title...just my opinion.... Fair comment!!!! I'm heading out to my local working man's club. Think i'll ask them to kick everyone out who doesn't work.........i'll probably end up getting lynched but all the men on benefits
  18. Many of us enjoy both the racing and working aspect of our dogs. It comes across that some of the hunting folk can't seem to grasp this. Happy hunting, Happy racing, Happy showing, Happy pets, or whatever you keep your dogs for Daz
  19. That challenge is way too serious!!!!!! How about keeping the dogs out of this one. Let the two of them chase the foxtail up the Master McGrath track after downing 12 pints of guinness each. Muzzles compulsory of course
  20. Some of the clubs that ran the shows in the past were only made up of a couple of members therefore making it difficult to organise and run the racing effectively and efficiently due to lack of help. For me once the lure has been brought back to the start line the next heat should be run within seconds. I reckon given time and support that this will happen in the near future. The Sporting Whippet Club are probably the most efficient club i have witnessed in regard to the racing and in my opinion this has a lot to do with an open and large membership in comparison to other clubs. Surel
  21. At most of the shows i've ever been at there's far too much flaffing about between each heat of the races. For me it's up to the responsability of each owner to be at the start for their heat. Once the dogs are called twice my opinion would be just run the race. People will soon catch on to be ready with their dog. When you see racing start on time, well organised and run properly it's surprising just how little time it takes. I havn't been at any of the lurcher shows this year so can't comment about them. 22. Was out earlier for a couple of hours and landed the two below. Just waiting on the bigger of the two finishing off in the oven. ATB Tight Lines, Daz
  23. Here's a pic of the copper and orange vagabond and the greenfish. The vagabond is 7g and the greenfish in the pic is 8g though i mostly use a 12g greenfish.
