  1. Here's a copy of the challenge process that will be used for the whippet racing at Shanes Castle this year.
  2. It's great that there is a club that caters for all types of whippets and I have always enjoyed a great days craic at any of the Sporting Whippet Clubs days I've attended especially the racing though I do feel that those who work their whippets on a regular basis are on the decline. I just hope that whether at the Sporting Whippet Club or at the Lurcher and Terrier shows throughout the coming months that only those who genuinely work their dogs put them in the working class. How do you know whether a whippet is "fit for purpose" if it's not regularly doing what the bred was intended for?
  3. Now vermin catcher if the whippets have to be proven by working rabbits there would be a lot less in attendance.
  4. I use the mk3m and I find it a great. It took a number of goes to get used to after using a mk1 for years. My mk3 was working fine but when this post came up I thought what the hell so opened it up to have a go. The two screws highlighted in the pic calibrate the depth and the pin pointer. If your mk3m is well out you have a choice....pay deben £35 to recalibrate or have a go yourself. The worst than can happen is you send it to Deben and pay £35. That's a no brainer.
  5. Ha ha sure they probably said the same thing about the mark 1. Looks like those expensive calibration meters should be thrown in the bin as there are lots and lots of mk3 owners who's box is out a bit.
  6. When I was messing about with the two screws on the mk3 it was more important to have the pin pointer as accurate as possible than to have the correct depth. You get used if the depth is 1ft or 2ft out but when pin pointing the location of the ferret Is more important.
  7. Yes but on mine it slightly altered the pin pointer squelch It just takes a bit of trial and error to get a happy medium.
  8. Both screws can be used to fine tune the calibration. It just takes a bit of trial and error to get a balance between the correct depth and getting the squelch right on the pin pointer. I found when it was adjusted to the correct depth the squelch wasn't as accurate and when the squelch was adjusted to be spot on the depth was slightly out. I just messed about for a while.
  9. Nothing ventured nothing gained...... decided to have a go and see what the two screws highlighted above done. The screw closest to the magnet at the bottom of the box seems to calibrate the readings when the box was in locate mode. The top screw didn't seem to adjust any setting but i will try again when i have a bit more time. I took a photo of the position of the screws before making any adjustments just in case things went belly up.
  10. I reckon the two red circles highlighted are the adjusting screws for calibrating the mk3. I haven't tried it yet on my own as it's working fine but if someone has one which is giving false readings it could be worth a try. I reckon one calibrates the search mode and the other for locate.
  11. Not every ferret works well if you fed it on the morning of a hunt. Although there is not need to starve them. I never feed mine on the morning of a hunt and if they kill they move onto the next rabbit so they arent starved. Find out what works best for your ferrets as you'll learn through trying different things.
  12. We should all see a lot less of the cover after the last few frosty mornings....happy ferreting when you get out
  13. Just for you mate. All the rabbits were bolted to the dog!!!
  14. Just one of those days mate when the bunnies weren't for shifting....hope we don't get too many more of them over the rest of the season . Sure just do what some of the puppy farmers do, if they take their dog ferreting every rabbit that's caught regardless goes down to the dog....sired by 2 year old dog with 500 rabbits under his belt . They take their dog for a walk over any field and it's classed as a working dog . I better quit or i'm going to get myself into some bother
  15. Not so much of a report but just a few pic from the last number of weeks.
  16. Most of my ferrets are bomb proof and I can lift them from any shape but I spend lots of time handling them while they mess and play about the shed. Most of them will mouth/play bite me while dooking about and there are a few of them that I can lift of the ground while they're holding onto my finger with their teeth. They seem to now just how much pressure they can use without actually breaking through the skin....which I find amazing.
  17. Would you please empty your inbox. I've been trying to pm you about a ferret exercise wheel. Many thanks, Darren
  18. A big WELL DONE!!!!! to all the show winners and race winners. A great club with good doggie people.....always an enjoyable time at Dunsilly with the whippet folk. Also a big CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! to Ricky, Kirsty and Ollie on winning the grade A racing. Just on my way to RVH A&E as Chontelle stumped too hard on my ankle......probably will have to make another journey to it tomorrow when VC gets back from Scotland!!! lol
  19. If its a lamping trip you two can let me know how you get on as Sammy told me that the last time he went out lamping with Robert it was an all night expedition....a boot full of rabbits alright but it took him a week to recover lol
  20. Bluebell would you ask Rose if I could borrow her horse trailer for sunday as I'm not sure whether bolt will fit into my car
